Do you sit or stand when you have the jab?

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 12:30

Not had my first jab yet and going today. Pregnant and incredibly anxious about it. Want to minimise touching anything with any part of my body (yes I know I am over worried, saying it really won't help) and was wondering if you stood up or sat down when you had yours? The thought of sitting on a possibly covid infested chair is making my skin crawl.

Also, if you're meant to sit, can you ask to stand?😐

YABU - I was sitting down
YANBU - I was standing up

You barely get your bum off the seat before they are spraying it, so the chairs are fine.

The man opposite me stood.

So I think you could state your preference.

lljkk · 11/07/2021 12:38

Friend had hers standing so you can have that if you prefer, I'm sure.

I take it you'd never use a public loo, OP. Being pregnant but not being able to use a loo while out & about may be a rather greater challenge than requesting that you stand to receive jab.

HildegardNightingale · 11/07/2021 12:38

I work at a vaccination centre. The chairs are cleaned in between patients every time.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 11/07/2021 12:38

Yes you will have to sit down for 15 mins post vaccine to see if you have a reaction

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2021 12:39

@kowari

Are clothed bums particularly high in covid? Isn't it more hands and faces you should avoid?
Clothed bums have not appeared as a high risk area yet AFAIK. Be problematic on public transport.
WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 11/07/2021 12:39

I sat, but I'm sure if you asked to stand it would be fine. I would also mention that you're feeling very anxious and the staff may be able to reassure you. Good luck!

Underbox · 11/07/2021 12:39

The chairs are wiped down between each person!

I think you need to seek help for your anxiety - how are you going to cope with your baby crawling around in a few months time? You need to calm down or else you will project your anxieties to your child which is never a good thing. Please seek some help

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2021 12:40

Yes you will have to sit down for 15 mins post vaccine to see if you have a reaction I was in and out of the center so fast , no one waited 15 mins.

You're supposed to. If you leave after a minute and collapse or have a reaction on your own head be it suppose.
HildegardNightingale · 11/07/2021 12:43

Astra Zeneca requires no 15 min wait.
Moderna/Pfizer - 15 min wait.

sylbunny · 11/07/2021 12:43

I sat but you could definitely ask to stand. We then had to sit on a chair for 15 mins after but all the chairs were cleaned in between people. Some people also stood for those 15 mins. Especially with you being pregnant I'm sure you can use that as an excuse to stand - just say it's more comfortable for you.

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 12:45

Not had any reason to go anywhere since this all began as we both work from home, have Ocado deliveries and a fairly big home and garden which means there's plenty of space and entertainment to be had. I also have a husband who missed the mark of being CEV because he only has 400 of his steroid inhaler instead of 450, the fact he uses his reliever several times a week was missed by our useless gp, something that would have put him on the shielding list. Didn't matter in the end though as we both worked from home.

I haven't used a public loo for years. I've hated the things since I was a child.

I sat, the chairs are swapped and cleaned after each person so they’re probably one of the cleanest surfaces you’ll come into contact with in daily life

Please seek help for your anxiety, this isn’t normal thought patterns

shouldistop · 11/07/2021 12:48

Your update makes me really feel like you need some help with your anxiety. You really haven't been anywhere since March 2020?
What about midwife appointments?
How are you going to feel when your child is crawling about playgroups or putting toys in their mouth?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2021 12:48

Astra Zeneca requires no 15 min wait.
Moderna/Pfizer - 15 min wait
that makes sense , I had the AZ.

TeenMinusTests · 11/07/2021 12:48

Ours was standing. (50-60s mainly having vaccine). In and out very efficiently.
We were then advised to wait for 15 minutes somewhere in case of ill effects (I like most sat in my car), no seated waiting areas.

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2021 12:49

DS1 had the Moderna, he had a 15 minute wait in the vaccination centre.

WrongWayApricot · 11/07/2021 12:50

They won't mind you standing up, just say I'd rather stand please because I'll feel anxious sitting down. But after the jab you've got 15 minutes in the waiting room, I had terrible back pain when I was pregnant but hopefully you'll be alright standing that long?

ForeverFloating · 11/07/2021 12:51

Sat down for both, I get dizzy in medical situations so sitting was preferable anyway. No beds, I’m sure standing would be fine if you asked

Wolfiefan · 11/07/2021 12:51

I stood.
But regardless your level of anxiety is totally OTT. How on Earth will you give birth if you don’t want to touch anything? And toilet training? You’ll need to get used to public loos.

HadEnoughOfBears · 11/07/2021 12:51

@crouchendtiger
I had the 2 doses at 2 different venues and only people who were driving themselves home were told to sit for 15 minutes.

Butchyrestingface · 11/07/2021 12:51

The thought of sitting on a possibly covid infested chair is making my skin crawl.

Oh dear. They once swabbed a tube seat in London and found faecal matter and semen on it... this was pretty pandemic.

Mother of God, don't tell her THAT. She'll never sit down again. 😱

ForeverFloating · 11/07/2021 12:52

Also for my first the waiting area was 2 vertical lines of chairs, every time someone was taken everyone moved forward one chair, so I sat in about 6 different ones

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 12:52

I will be fine once we are both double jabbed but right now I am terrified my husband will die as just a cold can make him have asthma attacks and even need hospital. And I am somewhat scared I'll die too, but that worry is tiny compared.

PattyPan · 11/07/2021 12:52

I was sat down and sat for the 15 minutes afterwards. When I left I had to put a card on the seat I had used so they knew which ones to wipe down. Much cleaner than any other chair you’ve ever sat in Smile
