Do you sit or stand when you have the jab?

Not had my first jab yet and going today. Pregnant and incredibly anxious about it. Want to minimise touching anything with any part of my body (yes I know I am over worried, saying it really won't help) and was wondering if you stood up or sat down when you had yours? The thought of sitting on a possibly covid infested chair is making my skin crawl.

Also, if you're meant to sit, can you ask to stand?😐

YABU - I was sitting down
YANBU - I was standing up

I lie down, otherwise I faint.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 11/07/2021 12:31

Why would they chair be COVID infested? It should be cleaned between patients.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/07/2021 12:32

I had mine through my car window

Geamhradh · 11/07/2021 12:32

You'll find the Covid centre is probably the most sterile place you've been in since the pandemic began.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 11/07/2021 12:32

I was seated, but I'm sure if you asked to stand they'd accommodate.
There's photos of our mp (by the press) stood having his done.

Chikapu · 11/07/2021 12:33

I sat down. Worrying about a covid infested chair is another level of, well something!

Bluntness100 · 11/07/2021 12:33

just stand it’s fine.

Buzlightyear1 · 11/07/2021 12:33

I sat down. So did the rest of my family. If u really don't want to sit down ask them if u can stand i. Sure they will be able to help. I and very scared of needles and used to faint every time I had a injection. But they were great and help where they can good luck

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/07/2021 12:34

Considering the chair was cleaned as soon as the previous butt lifted from it, I happily sat.

GreenCrayon · 11/07/2021 12:34

You can sit or some places allow you to lie down. Both a bed or the chair are cleaned after each patient.

If you honestly believe the chair is covid infested then in all seriousness you should probably speak to your midwife about your anxiety. It's not a rational train of thought.

Hont1986 · 11/07/2021 12:34

I stood. The person across from me having their jab was stood as well. But then we had to sit down in a chair for 15 minutes (I left after 10, didn't seem to make any difference).

shouldistop · 11/07/2021 12:34

I sat down.

Are you getting help for your anxiety?

SoapyChoc · 11/07/2021 12:35

Sat down but the saw them cleaning the chair in between every patient

ThursdayWeld · 11/07/2021 12:35

As you said OP, you know you're being unreasonable, but they're used to all sorts by now and if you explain they might let you stand.

They won't want you fainting, though.

FudgeFlake · 11/07/2021 12:35

Standing for the first one, sitting for the second (two different centres). The people working there will accommodate your needs, they were all lovely at both places.

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2021 12:35

Haven't voted because I don't think this fits into AIBU and it's weird to use the vote thing that way IMO.

But I stood both times. I don't see how a chair can be 'Covid infested' but don't wipe you hands all over it then stick them in your mouth just to be on the safe side.

PascalHey · 11/07/2021 12:36

They asked if I wanted to sit or stand. I chose to stand

Runningupthecurtains · 11/07/2021 12:36

They clean chairs in between every use. When I was in the waiting area I stood (not because I was worried about getting Covid from sitting in a chair but to save the volunteer from cleaning a chair again), for the jab I sat.

MargotEmin · 11/07/2021 12:36

Your concern isn't rationale. Every booth at my vaccine centre was cleaned down between patients, the whole place was immaculate and run like clockwork. It also felt very very empty because they don't keep patients waiting around, I saw reems of volunteers, cleaners etc but hardly any members of the public.

kowari · 11/07/2021 12:37

Are clothed bums particularly high in covid? Isn't it more hands and faces you should avoid?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2021 12:37

Chairs are disinfected between people and you have to sit down, they wouldn't jab anyone standing in vase they fainted. Everyone is masked and it's all very safe.

QuestionableDanceMoves · 11/07/2021 12:37

I stood for the first one, there weren’t any chairs. For the second there were chairs and everyone was seated for the jab

DefinitelyNotAHastyNameChange · 11/07/2021 12:37

I wasn’t given the option of a chair for the actual jabbing and it didn’t look like anyone other than the staff had chairs. I did get ushered into a chair room after the jab where I had to sit for 15 minutes though.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 11/07/2021 12:37

The thought of sitting on a possibly covid infested chair is making my skin crawl.

Oh dear. They once swabbed a tube seat in London and found faecal matter and semen on it... this was pretty pandemic.

Public chairs are riddled with bacteria pandemic or not. It goes on your clothes which are hopefully washed after you've worn them.

Sounds as though you need some counselling. They wipe down the seats between uses anyway.

I was seated. My elderly mother stood.

Is your baby ever going to be able to leave the house because of your anxiety?

DefinitelyNotAHastyNameChange · 11/07/2021 12:38

mrspellegrinopetrichor everyone was standing for their jabs in the large centre I attended
