Do you sit or stand when you have the jab?

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 12:30

Not had my first jab yet and going today. Pregnant and incredibly anxious about it. Want to minimise touching anything with any part of my body (yes I know I am over worried, saying it really won't help) and was wondering if you stood up or sat down when you had yours? The thought of sitting on a possibly covid infested chair is making my skin crawl.

Also, if you're meant to sit, can you ask to stand?😐

YABU - I was sitting down
YANBU - I was standing up

Oh dear. They once swabbed a tube seat in London and found faecal matter and semen on it... this was pretty pandemic.

Mother of God, don't tell her THAT. She'll never sit down again. 😱

Oh don't worry, last time I was on a bus/train I was 24😂

I was utterly terrified going for mine. It was January, peak covid, lockdown and I am CEV and was shielding. I had to go for cancer treatment during the first lockdown and this scared me more. I was so worried about going to a place where there might be hoards of people, I double masked.
It was like clockwork, in and out in 3 minutes flat. The only person who came near me was the one with the needle. Yes I was asked to sit down but I'm sure if you are visibly pregnant and say it's more comfortable to stand they won't mind.

Ekofisk · 11/07/2021 12:54

Our centre everyone was standing, but I’m sure chairs would have been provided if requested.

I had AZ and was advised to wait 15 minutes in the car before driving. DH also had AZ but he wasn’t driving and wasn’t advised to wait 15 minutes.

ComDummings · 11/07/2021 12:55

The vaccination centre was the cleanest place I’ve been in months. As soon as someone stood up they were cleaning the chairs and desks etc down.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 11/07/2021 12:55

There's some admin stuff to do first so you'll be with the nurse for about ten minutes in all. Depends if both of you are able to communicate well enough with one standing, one sitting, masks etc.

Chairs aren't infested though love, honestly.

MikeHat · 11/07/2021 12:56

I had planned to walk out after my jab and wait outside for 15 minutes but they just told everyone to wait in their car if driving.

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2021 12:58

Why are they cleaning chairs? They don't clean chairs anywhere else between bums.
(Although there were no chairs where I had mine)

KittyMcKitty · 11/07/2021 13:00

You can sit / stand / lie down but everything is thoroughly cleaned between each patient

knittingaddict · 11/07/2021 13:01

I sat down both times, but I think I stood up for the actual first injection. Can't quite remember now, but definitely sat for the second.

Unless you are 25 that’s extreme - have you spoken to anyone about your germophobia?

They did at Specsavers when I went recently

Zilla1 · 11/07/2021 13:03

@Sparklingbrook we wipes chairs between patients much like we do in our GP waiting rooms when we call someone for their appointment. People touch seats with their hands when they're sat and when they push to stand up hence risk of transfer.

careerchangeperhaps · 11/07/2021 13:04

I stood at mine. There's a spot on the floor to mark where you stand; they didn't give the option to sit (but as there was a seat in the corner I guess it's available if needed).

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/07/2021 13:05

@Remoulade

I will be fine once we are both double jabbed but right now I am terrified my husband will die as just a cold can make him have asthma attacks and even need hospital. And I am somewhat scared I'll die too, but that worry is tiny compared.
I hope your doctor is helping with this

a possibly covid infested chair

Hahaha oh hang on, you're serious.

Are you planning on sitting down bare-arsed naked?

warmfluffytowels · 11/07/2021 13:12

I sat, and then had to sit down for 15 minutes afterwards (I had Pfizer) - they wouldn't allow you to stand then (presumably in case you fainted).

Lyricallie · 11/07/2021 13:14

I was basically in a door way it was a very slick operation. Asked me some questions, gave me my jag, directed me to waiting area where I sat for 15 minutes went out a different door. This was in Scotland.

goose1964 · 11/07/2021 13:15

We stood, it must have taken all of 5 seconds including the identification verification

Butchyrestingface · 11/07/2021 13:15

How old are you now, OP? And why don't you ever train on busses/trains? I assume planes are okay?

Jux · 11/07/2021 13:16

At the centre I went to (had both jabs now) they wiped the chairs between people though I'm sure they didn't really need to.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 11/07/2021 13:16

We were seated at both our vaccination centres. But we watched every chair, desk and touch point being sanitised in between every person. Doors were held open by volunteers, and sanitiser pumped directly into your hands, so nobody touched them. The only part of me which had to touch anything was my bum on the still-damp-from-being-sanitised chair.

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 13:17

@BuffySummersReportingforSanity

What, because I'm worried about getting covid while pregnant, worried about my vulnerable husband dying from it and not using public toilets? Every time I have been in a public toilet there's been either paper on the floor, "water" on the floor, shit/period blood in the toilet, either flushed and stuck on or not flushed at all (why?) or the all time favourite; a mix of all of the above. Of course there have been occasions where it hasn't been like this, but it's been incredibly rare, even in nice restaurants and now I avoid them like the plague. The last time I used one was at the airport and it was horrific. People are gross.

I have no reason to go on buses or trains ever. I live in a small village that does indeed have a bus service, but why use that when I can just go in the car?

No idea because I haven't had it...but think you need to relax a little.

I will go on planes when I have to, for work and to see family.
