Neighbours smoking weed

We have lived in our cul de sac for nearly 4 years, we're the newbies here. Mostly young families plus one older couple, everyone is lovely and friendly but generally keep themselves to themselves.

One house (parents plus older children in late teens/early 20s) are blatantly smoking weed, the bedroom windows are wide open and the road stinks of it, have noticed several times. All the cars are there so looks like the parents may be home. They are the only house that have not been friendly, also annoying taking wheelie bin (now retrieved!), walking across our garden when they feel like it, permanently using the only visitors parking space as their own and chopping bits of our protected tree off on our side without permission. I realise this is not a big issue in the grand scheme of things and have ignored up to now but is just annoying with young children.
Would I be U to report the weed use?

Hi @ocpwr

Really glad to hear it's working for you, and in that case you're definitely on the right side of the law. I hope you didn't suffer too much pre-2018.

Pretty obviously if you rolled it into a joint and smoked it, although it would be technically illegal, I reckon there would almost certainly be no comeback. Given that the police don't bother with personal use anyway, I can't see them ever chasing medicinal users with a prescription who smoke rather than vape!

I personally hate the smell of weed and as a chronic migraine sufferer on a day when I am a tired/a bit dehydrated a strong smell of it can be straw that breaks the camel's back and can trigger a migraine.

If it was every single day, over a several weeks I would report it to the landlord if they rented, but I wouldn't report it to the police.

I honestly don't think people who smoke anything in their gardens/houses constantly realise how smelly it can be

Lovemusic33 · 11/07/2021 19:28

They sound like my neighbours, maybe you live on my road 🤣.

It doesn't bother me, I actually lile the smell and i get to inhale it for free. I don't think there's much you can do other than asking them politely not to smoke weed during the day when your kids are in tue garden, though they might still tell you to F off.

For all those laughing at the police suggestions, our local police took it quite seriously when we aired concerns about it pooling in our children's bedrooms (which it really was horribly).

They came round for several random calls to us and our neighbours which put a stop to it.

If it’s that ‘loud’ it must be skunk, which really fucking stinks.

HirplesWithHaggis · 11/07/2021 19:51

There are very many more strains of weed available these days than "skunk". Most smell the same, though.

Happy to be ignorant about that
HirplesWithHaggis · 11/07/2021 22:21

It's mostly Stardawg round my parts. :)

Maggiesfarm · 12/07/2021 12:07

As it's not legal in this country, people generally can't be choosey about which strain of weed they buy.

I can't imagine the smell of weed from neighbours coming into bedroom windows, frankly. They must be so close to next door for that to happen.

tempnamechange98765 · 12/07/2021 12:26

Until I read that the neighbours aren’t friendly I would’ve thought you lived by me Grin

My next door neighbours are the same type of family set up and I know for a fact it’s at least one of the parents not the young adults as I’ve smelled it when the kids are out. I also see my neighbour getting into the car to drive shortly after smelling it in the garden!

It is annoying, I was furious a few years ago when I was heavily pregnant and arrived home to find our own living room smelling of it because we’d had our windows open all day. But I haven’t done anything as I don’t feel I can - also my two DC are loud brats and as we are semi detached my neighbours must put up with a lot of noise and almost never complain, so I feel I should let them off this!

Chillychangchoo · 12/07/2021 12:27

Lol

If that’s all they’re doing just get on with it. Only thing that I find intrusive is noisy neighbours.

Me too - and nosey neighbours but I don't have that. That's something that stops me moving, it is so right where I currently live but I also want to downsize to something that needs little maintenance. I'd have to do my research carefully.

Going off the point there.

The only time I ever smelled weed from a neighbour was one or two occasions in the back garden. I was in my garden and there was a whiff from over the fence. That was when neighbours' children were teenagers, they're adult parents now.

@Maggiesfarm

I just wish all I had to get my knickers in a twist about was the smell of cannabis every now and again.

Ive had neighbours in the past whereby police have raided their house because they’ve had guns etc in their homes so I guess my bar is different to the average mumsnetter.

Hackney? We live there too! I still love it though Grin
