Neighbours smoking weed

sunnygemini · 11/07/2021 12:18

We have lived in our cul de sac for nearly 4 years, we're the newbies here. Mostly young families plus one older couple, everyone is lovely and friendly but generally keep themselves to themselves.

One house (parents plus older children in late teens/early 20s) are blatantly smoking weed, the bedroom windows are wide open and the road stinks of it, have noticed several times. All the cars are there so looks like the parents may be home. They are the only house that have not been friendly, also annoying taking wheelie bin (now retrieved!), walking across our garden when they feel like it, permanently using the only visitors parking space as their own and chopping bits of our protected tree off on our side without permission. I realise this is not a big issue in the grand scheme of things and have ignored up to now but is just annoying with young children.
Would I be U to report the weed use?

I don’t agree that there are worse smells. It’s vile.

sunnygemini · 11/07/2021 13:34

If it was just the occasional whiff it really wouldn't bother me but its really strong, Im surprised how strong it is. They are the only house that do it, all the others are young families.

You're right about declaring if we moved tho, all houses here are owned not rented so would be a potential issue. Would you have to declare if you make an anonymous call to police?!

@Maggiesfarm Love this approach!

Tbh it's probably something I'm going to have to put up with even tho illegal.

Agreed that weed is in no way as bad as alcohol. In residential areas we have to put up with all sorts from neighbours. Cooking smells, weed smells, children screeching, bbq smoke etc. Hope you can learn to live with it.

MurielSpriggs · 11/07/2021 13:42

@Lolwhat

Have you considered getting over it?
You'll find taking slow deep breaths helps. Especially when outside 😂
bowchickawowwoww · 11/07/2021 13:45

It's weed ffs! Get a grip

Missreginafalange · 11/07/2021 13:46

Yuk! I cannot stand the smell of weed it makes me want to be sick, so for me yanbu but not sure what you can do about it really..:

newnortherner111 · 11/07/2021 13:52

As they drive cars, report to the police. With car registration number. Then the police and crime commissioner if you think no action has been taken.

I don't want anyone to suffer worse injury or worse because of a driver who is under the influence of drugs.

Fiercestcalm · 11/07/2021 13:55

I have lived next door to weed smokers for six months ( and reported them, turned out much more was happening at their address) it is horrible, stinky and still illegal in the UK, I believe.

Keep reporting and just make a fuss. Smoking cannabis exacerbates mental health issues and is a complete blight especially for young people. It’s unacceptable, illegal and antisocial. I feel for you.

roarfeckingroarr · 11/07/2021 13:55

It's so grim isn't it. Not much you can do though, police don't care.

ChargingBuck · 11/07/2021 14:00

I'd be more pissed off about the walking over your garden than a bit of weed stink. And I'd be incanfuckingdescent if they'd lopped my protected tree.

How did you respond to them about the garden-walking & tree-lopping, OP?

bg21 · 11/07/2021 14:00

@Saoirse82

I think weed should be legalised, it causes a LOT less issues than alcohol so on this basis and the fact that the police would do absolutely nothing YABU
this
beigebrownblue · 11/07/2021 14:04

I don't object to weed per se. If it were just an issue of individuals smoking and it not impacting anyone else in the grand scale of things its not important to me.

However, there are issues attached to it.
Namely. the weed comes from somewhere.
Where does it come from and where does it go?

Course it comes from people delivering it.

Weed buying and selling is also connected to the buying and selling of other drugs, Class A etc.

At an extreme County Lines networks which exploit young people use it as a gateway drug. They sell whatever they can sell. Regardless.

So, whereever there are young people and families involved for these reasons it bothers me a lot.

The police do care about county lines, the big 'boys' of course they try to catch who manage the lines, but the lines start somewhere and sometimes they start with cuckooing, i..e someone moving in with a vulnerable person and threatening them/pretending to be their friends.

And for these reasons it bothers the schools too.

So yes, get the reg numbers, descriptions of cars you might think are dropping off.

It is not the harmless bit of fun that some people seem to think it is.

And there is also the question of under age children employed in factories growing and processing it. Often under duress.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/07/2021 14:06

No, I wouldn't report it. All that will happen is they'll make your life harder.

For goodness sake, you are surely not going to report to the police, anonymously or otherwise.

I don't see why you would have to 'declare' if selling, it is such a minor issue. If you reported your neighbours you would be making it more of an issue and then you probably would have to.

Seriously? Do you also call and report licence plates of neighbours who had a drink in their own garden the night before?

Exh used to smoke weed a lot and I didn't like the smell or the effects - but I'd still choose it in a neighbour over big drinkers or noisy families, and don't understand why some mn users are so hysterical about it. The police are pretty guaranteed not to give a single sh*t about it, unless op has evidence of them dealing.

That's your opinion. Some people feel sick at the smell of certain foods, perfumes, even flowers. Rubbish bins smell bad if they aren't looked after, especially in hot weather. Blocked drains are awful.

That could have been a whole different thread! Involved him ignoring us and being plain rude. We have spoken to him in a civilised way but basically thinks he's entitled to do what ever he wants. He's stopped for now but then our bin went missing, retrieved that so just waiting for the next minor-but-still-very-annoying issue!

Honestly from your posts it's pretty clear this isn't about the weed at all. You don't like their other forms of anti-social behaviour and you're looking for a way to get revenge by reporting them.

No I don't want revenge, it is about the other forms of anti social behaviour with the weed as well but I feel the other things are hopefully put to bed. The weed issue is on going and also about behaviour that comes with it, maybe if they didn't smoke so much weed they'd be less moody and unreasonable.

They do sound like arseholes tbf. But then most pot heads are.

Weed is such manky stuff but police don't care about it. There would probably be more curbs on use if it were legal, ironically, but we are where we are.

Shopping them for DUI is an idea though.

And whichever of these things you report them for, it's unlikely to be taken any further. And even if it is they are not ever going to change and become good neighbours unfortunately.

You do have to learn to live with it until they move, or to move yourselves.

What came from my neighbours bathroom window the other day was far worse!! I was all set to go around and see if he survived.
EverythingWillFallInLine · 11/07/2021 14:32

Fascinating.

EpsomQ · 11/07/2021 14:35

Only just seen your post but I’ve just posted too about my neighbours doing the exact same thing. It’s a sodding nightmare.

BritWifeInUSA · 11/07/2021 14:35

Suggest they switch to a pen or edibles? Smoking joints is so last century.
