Ordered a couple of linen coats on Etsy. Both for my wedding in August for me and MoH.
Sent ok from China, arrived UK on 1 July according to tracking, then…… nothing.
Put in a query and asked sender to check . This am get email.

*I completed a thorough investigation and unfortunately must confirm that the item is unaccounted for.

I’m truly sorry this situation has occurred, and you haven't received your item for the wedding therefore, I want to support you by advising you of the speediest course of action to resolve it.

Please contact your retailer, and let them know whether you would prefer a refund or replacement.

I can assure you this is not the norm as we usually deliver over 3 million parcels successfully, every day.

If you won’t be home to take delivery of your next parcel, for future deliveries, you can now choose a preferred neighbour or safe place to leave your parcel here new.myhermes.co.uk/track.html. That way, we can make sure it gets to you, even if you're not home.

If you need anything in the future, please contact your Hermes Customer Service Team and we’ll be happy to help.*

AIBU to be absolutely furious with this response? Shit attitude, shit service, shit company. I’m so glad I can change my options for delivery. How about FUCKING DELIVER IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I know it’s not the end of the world but…it’s my wedding. I’m sitting snivelling, it’s pathetic.

fwiw OP I thought it was pretty obvious you were being hyperbolic about wanting them to go bust and were just frustrated in the moment Flowers I say that from the perspective of someone who's also had 90% bad experiences with Hermes though, things not being delivered/being delivered insanely late/delivery instructions being ignored, my DP sells things from his hobby occasionally and on more than one occasion they have said he "wasn't in" several days in a row for them to collect it when he was WFH and was absolutely in and listening out for the door. I personally have never had such bad service with any other carrier. My mum on the other hand has a local "Hermes man" who is excellent and there are never any issues in his delivery area.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 11/07/2021 15:03

Why would would order coats off etsy from China for a sodding wedding?

Are there no local places that do anything you could buy easier.

I would never buy anything in those circumstances let alone for a wedding where if it goes wrong you're stuffed.

amylou8 · 11/07/2021 15:04

I send over 500 parcels with Hermes a month, they lose the odd one or two of those. They are really very reliable. They're quicker than royal mail, cheaper and their delivery scans are more consistent. Judging by the amount of Hermes lorrys hurtling round the M25 they're doing very well for themselves, and are probably quite unconcerned about your wish for their demise. I know it's infuriating when things go wrong. Hopefully you paid by a method that allows you to claim against the seller in the event of non delivery.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/07/2021 15:05

I won't buy from people who use Hermes for delivery but only because our local Hermes is utterly shit.

ladygindiva · 11/07/2021 15:05

I understand your frustrations op. I haven't forgiven them yet for losing sils 2016 Xmas present for my newborn twins, handmade dresses she had spent weeks on. Apparently they were lovely. I don't believe the pps who've never had an issue, just last week they sent a parcel of mine to the wrong towns collection point. They're bloody useless.

Conchitastrawberry · 11/07/2021 15:16

Total over reaction. Things get lost in the post. The reply is courteous band offers you options. What exactly do you want them to do!

MrsDThomas · 11/07/2021 15:27

Just because you are missing some cast off coats from China, you want to see people out of work? My Hermes delivery guy is worth his weight in gold.

Buy from the UK.

For that attitude, i hope you wont see the coats.

Whinge · 11/07/2021 15:35

I don't believe the pps who've never had an issue

Why don't you believe them? Our local Hermes guy is fantastic. He goes out of his way to help customers, and sort problems. I don't for one minute believe that every area is as lucky, but I also don't think we're the only area to have great service from Hermes staff.

justasmalltownmum · 11/07/2021 15:38

Hermes are horrendous. Absolutely useless

IsItJustMeOrYou · 11/07/2021 15:41

My heart sinks when the supplier says they use Hermes

LubaLuca · 11/07/2021 15:43

When you order cheap stuff from China, there's a much higher chance that something will go wrong with delivery. 'Arrived in the UK' might mean they're sitting in a shipping container at or near a port. This might not be Hermes' mistake at all.

Go and choose some jackets in a real shop and get your refund for the lost ones.

LubaLuca · 11/07/2021 15:45

I have to say I've never had a problem with Hermes either. Our delivery chap is excellent, everything arrives as it should. Royal Mail is less reliable in my experience.

Fairyliz · 11/07/2021 15:50

You do know shops are open nowadays and you can go in and buy stuff?
I can’t imagine ordering anything really important from China in the middle of a pandemic, that’s asking for problems.
Personally I’ve always found Hermes really good my local delivery drivers are polite, efficient and helpful. I did try and send an email to Hermes to say so but couldn’t find a relevant email.

SnoopyLights · 11/07/2021 15:53

Hermes is terrible. I won't order anything if I know it will be 'delivered' by them.

We've only had one parcel arrive without a drama, every other time they have been involved we've either had nothing arrive at all or it's been smashed to bits.

We've even had an empty box 'delivered' by them, three days late and with a slash down the side where they've cut it open and removed the item without actually opening the parcel properly. Still, at least when they brought the empty box they also put it straight into the recycling bin rather than knock on the door. This is after they claimed to have attempted delivery at almost midnight but said we were not in when they knocked.

I'm amazed they are still in business. They are a terrible company.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/07/2021 15:54

I had to contact “Customer Services” after a parcel of mine (postable size) was supposedly “securely delivered” to my non-existent porch whereupon it vanished into thin air, and got the exact same email (word for word). They just don’t give a shit.

And yes, if those delivery drivers can’t even be arsed to put a very small package through a letterbox and just leave it on the doorstep for any passer-by to steal then they deserve to lose their job.

PattyPan · 11/07/2021 15:55

Confused Have you never wanted to buy something specialist/very specific and it not been for sale locally? I regularly buy things from several brands which are only available online or even things from John Lewis that they had on their website but not in my local store. Shops don’t have everything in!
BritWifeInUSA · 11/07/2021 16:00

Their response want them gest but no matter how politely or apologetically they respond the coats are gone. They can’t magic them back.

I guess that’s one of the risks of ordering from China. Had you bought your clothes from a local bricks and mortar place you wouldn’t have this problem.

BritWifeInUSA · 11/07/2021 16:01

Response wasn’t great! Typos!

Dimsummummy · 11/07/2021 16:03

I couldn’t agree with you more!
I have had problems three times with next day delivery parcels, from 3 different retailers, in the last 6 months due to Hermes.

One a Xmas gift, I did receive on the last possible day before Xmas after complaining to the retailer.

One, which was outdoor wear for a climbing activity my son was doing, was literally delivered the day before his activity (I had added on a weeks extra time to allow for Hermes being the courier, or else I’d have not received either of these in time)

More recently, on Thursday I received a parcel that I had ordered 2 weeks and one day prior, on next day delivery at a cost of £8!
The parcel I eventually received was a reissue from the retailer as the original had gone walkies
( despite it being parcel 1 of 3 from the same retailer and they had managed to deliver the other 2, they claimed a different courier of theirs was doing the same route at the same time and that we didn’t answer! - although we did answer to their other courier at the same time).. then it kept getting ‘put out for delivery’ and then getting ‘held up’ I’ve still no idea where it is 🤷‍♀️ The retailer was pretty rubbish at dealing with it and just expected me to accept their assurance (Hermes via the retailer) that I’d have it within 48 hours, as if that was okay then, Of course I don’t miss paying £8 for next day for it to be unilaterally decided I could wait 😂 they ultimately came through and compensated me for the inconvenience and refunded the delivery charge but I’ll never order off a retailer who uses Hermes again, IME they have a 100% failure rate and they’re uncontactable too.

Bonjourfern · 11/07/2021 16:08

Our local Hermes lady is brilliant! But I've had terrible experiences with them in the past and multiple parcels I've ordered never arrived, ASOS next day delivery taking a week, parcels put in my bin etc. Actually had my wedding dress delivered and it was put in my blue bin on bin day! They are notorious for being quite shit, but they are cheap which is why everyone still uses them.

Contact the retailer, they can claim the refund back from Hermes I believe.

Also for all the PP slating OP from buying linen from China. It's is actually a great idea. Lots of linens are made there, they have very skilled tailors. Why do people presume it's just mass produced shit like AliExpress all the time!

careerchangeperhaps · 11/07/2021 16:20

Pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Presumably you bought the coats from China because of the price? To keep the prices insanely low, they use the cheapest shipping method. It's possible the coats are still in customs in the UK. Priority postal services like UPS / FedEx have faster processing times but you have to pay for it.

Confusedandshaken · 11/07/2021 16:41

In our area Hermes is great. I know most of the drivers (I get a lot of parcels)and couldn't fault them. So YABU.

Blinky21 · 11/07/2021 16:52

Hermes is only as good as your local courier, luckily mine is excellent. I do think companies should declare which courier service they use before you choose to order so that customers can avoid the bad ones

EatingAllThePies · 11/07/2021 16:54

My local Hermes driver is great but last year they lost a massive order for my son's birthday and whilst I got a refund it was all things that were irreplaceable so I was really fuming. I saw on t.v. they have a huge issue with lost parcels and make little effort to find them

Sportysporty · 11/07/2021 17:02

You really should get over yourself
