Ordered a couple of linen coats on Etsy. Both for my wedding in August for me and MoH.
Sent ok from China, arrived UK on 1 July according to tracking, then…… nothing.
Put in a query and asked sender to check . This am get email.

*I completed a thorough investigation and unfortunately must confirm that the item is unaccounted for.

I’m truly sorry this situation has occurred, and you haven't received your item for the wedding therefore, I want to support you by advising you of the speediest course of action to resolve it.

Please contact your retailer, and let them know whether you would prefer a refund or replacement.

I can assure you this is not the norm as we usually deliver over 3 million parcels successfully, every day.

If you won’t be home to take delivery of your next parcel, for future deliveries, you can now choose a preferred neighbour or safe place to leave your parcel here new.myhermes.co.uk/track.html. That way, we can make sure it gets to you, even if you're not home.

If you need anything in the future, please contact your Hermes Customer Service Team and we’ll be happy to help.*

AIBU to be absolutely furious with this response? Shit attitude, shit service, shit company. I’m so glad I can change my options for delivery. How about FUCKING DELIVER IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I know it’s not the end of the world but…it’s my wedding. I’m sitting snivelling, it’s pathetic.

Anything sent from China has a good chance of getting lost and probably won't look like you expected anyway. I assume they weren't expensive and you can get a refund as they were not delivered?

Doghead · 11/07/2021 11:13

Wow! You sound thoroughly unpleasant. Wanting people to lose their jobs! Just wow!

Nickmoooooo · 11/07/2021 11:23

Parcelfarce are worse

Aprilx · 11/07/2021 11:33

I would be a little suspicious of the seller, Etsy from China, hmm.

But anyway it seems like a perfectly reasonable response from Hermes. They have no trace of your parcel, what else would you expect them to do?

The matter is now between you and the seller, they are correct to say that, you had no contract with Hermes, your seller had the responsibility of getting the item to you and it is for them to remedy. If they want to take this further with Hermes then this is up to them. You mention “service from Hermes” well you are not a customer of Hermes, the person who organised for them to deliver something is their customer, not you.

Personally I have had no issues with deliveries that have been organised via Hermes whatsoever and I have had plenty that ends up being delivered by them.

VeganVeal · 11/07/2021 11:49

I hope your intended doesnt see this post. It'd be a massive red flag to me, what s colossal over reaction over a coat!!!!

You sound hard work op

Youdiditanyway · 11/07/2021 11:50

I think RM are worse than Hermes personally, must be dependent on area. I’ve had 3 parcels go missing via RM over the past few months including one that was due this week whereas I’ve never had an issue with Hermes at all. Local driver is friendly too.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 11/07/2021 11:51

I agree with everyone who has said that it probably wouldn’t be what you expected.

The trouble is too, that you don’t always know the courier until you’ve ordered, so can’t boycott thrm.

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/07/2021 11:52

Our local Hermes are brilliant. DPD are terrible. We have parcels dropped off all over the village, photo's of "we have delivered your parcel" never match your own front door. Fortunately we are all on Nextdoor and people are forever putting up posts for "who's parcel is this?".

I used to prefer Royal Mail, who are OK, but since they "lost" a laptop I posted with them, I have lost confidence (and money).

kidsatuniemptynester · 11/07/2021 11:54

Calm down. Stop buying cheap pirated crap from China, concentrate on buying from UK retailers, or buy good second hand. Your hypocrisy is mind blowing; happy to have Hermes drivers sacked but not the least bit bothered about the huge piracy and blatant fraud practised by Chinese retailers.

Fiddliestofsticks · 11/07/2021 11:54

They'll be in an auction house. Hermes deliver van loads of "lost and unidentifiable" parcels few times a week to auction houses. Although, when you look at the packages, there are address clearly visible. They just don't bother. Someone will have bought your packages at auction; it's like lucky dip.

HomerSimpsonsDonut · 11/07/2021 11:57

YABU for ordering linen coats from China. Why not use a UK-based brand?
Also YABU for wanting to put an entire company out of business for a couple of missing coats. This must be a joke surely.

I second this.
Thomasina79 · 11/07/2021 11:59

I’ve had parcels lost via Hermes too; I also find some of their drivers pretty unhelpful and dismissive. I wouldn’t want to see people losing their jobs though.

I too would never order anything from China again, all items received from there have been terrible. A pair of straighteners were down right dangerous, however eBay sorted that one and I got my money back.

I guess items going missing is a risk we take when ordering on line. Very annoying though, especially bearing in mind the extortionate postage paid.

countrygirl99 · 11/07/2021 12:00

Parcelforce repeatedly tried to deliver my parcel clearly addressed to Finland in Milton Keynes. Funnily enough they kept failing as they couldn't find it. I'm not sure Hermes are too much worse.

I third this.

Stop buying from China. That’s the bigger problem.

RaindropsOnRosie · 11/07/2021 12:23

Your wedding is really not important to anyone but you, so please calm the fuck down and stop buying cheap shit from China where workers are exploited and child labour still exists.

VodselForDinner · 11/07/2021 12:25

Calm down, Bridezilla.

Buying time-sensitive items from China was your mistake.

PattyPan · 11/07/2021 12:27

Yanbu, Hermes are so bad that I avoid shopping from websites when I know Hermes will be the one to deliver it because I actually want to receive my items!

CoffeeRunner · 11/07/2021 12:28

Last time I ordered something from China it was a XXXL hoodie. I specifically wanted something big, baggy & cozy.

It just about fits my slim 9 year old.

I agree the coats probably wouldn't have been anything you'd want at a wedding anyway.

SuperstoreFan · 11/07/2021 12:30

Hermes and Yodel are on my shit list.

warmfluffytowels · 11/07/2021 12:32

I suspect that even if the items had arrived, they'd have been nothing like the description.

I've never had an issue with Hermès. Our local drivers are fantastic (one even brings a biscuit for the dog Grin), everything always arrives on time and undamaged, and they follow our instructions to the letter.

CastawayQueen · 11/07/2021 12:34

OP I understand that you’re upset + stress of wedding planning but this is a rookie mistake. Never order anything time sensitive or expensive from sellers without clear and easy refund policies.
Also if you put it on a credit card you can get your money back.

CastawayQueen · 11/07/2021 12:36

A lot of things sold in the U.K are also made in China. Or similar places like Bangladesh, Vietnam. Unless you buy things made in the U.K. or with a clear supply chain you’re not morally superior…
lljkk · 11/07/2021 12:45

If it's any consolation, I think you had lucky escape too as long as can get fully refunded - Chinese direct-sell items, so often the quality is rubbish.

Heyyeahyouwiththesadface · 11/07/2021 12:56

@Ohsugarhoneyicetea

I've ordered from China a few times and every single time it was a rip off one way or another. Even if it had arrived it wouldn't have been what you were expecting.
This is what I was thinking. Better for the parcel be lost and get a refund than arrive but only fit a doll!

My Me Hermes is ace.
