To think it’s getting harder to sell things

I do give a lot away but it seems anything I try to sell never does. I’m currently selling a new packet of Disney baby grows for £3.50 less then what I paid for them yet no interest.

You wouldn’t be able to get these from the shop for £5 as they were £8.50

OP posts:
ssd · 09/07/2021 22:18

Nobody wants them for that price though

Whyyouso · 09/07/2021 22:23

No obviously not but I still think it’s fair and if I go any lower I might as give them for free tbh

OP posts:
SpacePotato · 09/07/2021 22:25

If they were only £8.50 new, unless bought in the sale, then I presume they are from Asda or Primark. Being disney makes no difference. For such a small saving it's easier just buying them from the shop.

ssd · 09/07/2021 22:26

Can you afford to give them to a charity shop?

00100001 · 09/07/2021 22:26

It doesn't really matter what you paid.
It matters what people will pay for them.

You have a few options;

Try them for £3, might be low enough.

Take them back to shop and swap them.

Donate them to a baby bank.

Donate to charity shop

Save for another baby that may make an appearance in your life.

Whyyouso · 09/07/2021 22:29

I could give them to a charity shop but honestly feel when I give so much away

OP posts:
Whyyouso · 09/07/2021 22:29

It’s a bit annoying

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 09/07/2021 22:32

I wouldnt bother. There would be no point because you wouldn't save anything after postage.

00100001 · 09/07/2021 22:36

Why not try and swap them??

Whyyouso · 09/07/2021 22:38

I’m not sure they would let me six months on

It always depends on brand. You say Disney but are they from a supermarket or primark because in general those brands don’t sell. The odd thing from Sainsbury’s will if it’s the gruffalo for example but people generally aren’t interested in Asda clothing.

I do buy the odd bit of baby/kids clothing off eBay but it’s always higher end stuff like Frugi, boden, scandi brands, joules etc. I wouldn’t be arsed about Asda clothes with £3 knocked off.

Rainbowsew · 09/07/2021 22:40

I agree op!

Whyyouso · 09/07/2021 22:41

Well family also brought her clothes and friends which I’ve tried to at least put her in once so people can see her in them and the gift being used

Nobody wants your minging old babygros. Babies shit on them and they cost £5 for 5.

Nohomemadecandles · 09/07/2021 22:45

Unfortunately things are only worth what someone's prepared to pay.

And 8.50 vests aren't really collector's items. People pick them up in the supermarket.

Speakuptomakeyourselfheard · 09/07/2021 22:47

I think a lot of people are just too lazy to make the effort to go out of their way to collect things OP. We live a little way out in a fairly rural area, and can't even give things like quality furniture away, as people can't be bothered to travel. I think probably in your situation you'd be as well to save them until someone you know has a baby, and give them as a present, at least then they'll benefit from a lovely NEW set of clothing, and you'll feel that you've got something for your money, as you'll be saving on a gift you'd buy anyway.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/07/2021 22:50

It's not worth the hassle. I bought a new dining table offered the old for €1 to avoid free-cycle people who only search for free items to sell on
It is a lovely solid table, put measurements any marks no chairs etc the amount of stupid questions left.
I'm just taking it down.

buckeejit · 09/07/2021 22:52

People get lots of baby stuff for gifts-nobody wants to spend anything on baby stuff. Definitely to the charity shop. Baby stuff goes for 5 items for £1 at a charity shop near me & the money goes to charity. People (like me) who are willing to look for baby & other stuff on selling pages & charity shops aren't going to pay more than 50% of the cost price even if it is new, as we'd be willing to buy it used iykwim?

In short, your expectations are way too high. I usually have a bit of a chuckle at posts that say e.g. cost £130 new, Never used -will accept £95. No offers. It's not that good & a very niche market

RightYesButNo · 09/07/2021 22:53

It’s probably because you’re selling them for £5 and Primark has several 5-packs of baby grows with Disney characters on them for £6? (Minnie Mouse, Dumbo, Disney’s Winnie the Pooh, etc).

Sh05 · 09/07/2021 22:53

I think because of covid restrictions lots of shops are accepting returns long after the date stated on receipts so I would give it a try.
I returned some boots to Matalan 4 months after they were delivered just as greater Manchester was put back into lockdown, they didn't bat an eyelid and were more than happy to refund.

Whyyouso · 09/07/2021 22:53

Panaesthesia That’s a bit harsh as I’ve said they are new so they aren’t minging.

I've found baby clothes really hard to sell. Older kids' clothes tend to sell much better.

00100001 · 09/07/2021 22:56

@Whyyouso

I’m not sure they would let me six months on
Well.... You'd be surprised.

What's the worst that can happen? They say no, so you walk to the food bank trolley and drop them there instead, or at the nearest charity shop 🤷‍♀️
