No tips. My friend recently had a gastric sleeve abroad she said she doesn't feel hungry like before, she'll have a treat of a burger with no bun it fills her, she enjoys the light food.
She's 3 stone down, her confidence is 100% up, not just the weight loss the fact she took control after 35 years of torture.
I don't have an overweight issue if I did I'd have surgery in a heart beat.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/07/2021 15:12

Best of luck. Flowers

EmeraldShamrock · 09/07/2021 15:13

@BroccoliStinksOfAss €6000 in Bulgaria for the sleeve.

Adobewon · 09/07/2021 15:16

Gone for UK based £10,500 which I have been saving for. The surgeon works 50% private and 50% NHS and seems like a really nice chap who knows his stuff and has made me feel so confident.

Hoping to have shifted a good few Kgs by Christmas.

I dream of walking to the shops and back with no knee or ankle pain.

Oneborneverydecade · 09/07/2021 15:25

Good luck OP I hope it's everything you hope for

ZaraW · 09/07/2021 15:26

I work with someone who lost weight and then gained quite a lot of it back. Another was really restricted with what she could eat. I guess you know the downside to the surgery though.

addler · 09/07/2021 15:26

I went with Tonic as well, best thing I've done. Good luck!

Laiste · 09/07/2021 15:26

I hope it goes well OP, and i'm sure you've weighed up the pros and cons.

Since you've invited discussion :

I watched Miriam Margoyle's Big Fat Adventure recently and in the 2nd (i think) of the 2 episodes she meets a young mum who had weight loss surgery and i was pretty shocked at what her life is like now.

Slim, yes, but literally can't do much more than pick at food; a table spoons worth of the toppings on her pizza while her young son tucked into his next to her, and no dough. If she breaks the rules she'll throw up. And that is forever Shock

She is still unhappy with her body. She has body image issues and a really big problem with excess skin.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 09/07/2021 15:26

I'd be terrified.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 09/07/2021 15:27

Yeah, the excess skin, it's a really painful surgery to remove, too.

Adobewon · 09/07/2021 15:36

Excess skin will be better for me than excess fat which I’m currently covered in!

I am nervous about what eating will look like afterwards but honestly nothing can be worse than being so unhealthy like I am now. The surgeon told me the stats of trying to lose and keep this weight off myself and they’re very grim reading.

People with morbid obesity have a 1 in 700 to 1 in 1000 chance of achieving a normal weight without batiatric surgery so seems like a no brainer to me

Somethingsnappy · 09/07/2021 15:38

Hi OP. Congratulations and good luck! A few posters have mentioned excess skin as the downside, but I'm wondering if it won't be such a problem for you. I'm guessing (perhaps wrongly?) that you're going private because you don't qualify on the NHS, which may suggest your BMI isn't overly high? Although I understand it's probably not as simple as this. Either way, I'm sure you've done your research and know the pros and cons.

Somethingsnappy · 09/07/2021 15:40

Although, just seen your update, so I might be wrong.

MindBodyChocolate · 09/07/2021 15:41

Hi OP. I had a VSG in November last year and it’s hands down the best thing I’ve ever done. Weight loss has been constant but steady, no loose skin, energy and confidence through the roof.

I can eat completely normally, just small portions. I don’t think about food all the time now and feel freed.

Best of luck.

Laiste · 09/07/2021 15:41

Please don't fee you have to justify yourself OP Flowers It's none of our beeswax Grin

I never realised that the restricted eating is a forever thing (duh!) and i was just pretty surprised.

How much are you looking to lose?

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 09/07/2021 15:44

I've had it done and it changed my life. Not at my goal weight and yes i'll need skin removal surgery in the future, but it's the best money i've ever spent on myself.

I went through Spire and was treated very well.

I've avoided too much sugar since surgery but can pretty much eat anything else. Some days i can eat more than others and thankfully i've never been sick due to food. I'm about to get back to the gym to try and reach my goal weight in the next 6 months.

I use to struggle making it around a shop without being in pain, out of breath and hot and sweaty - now i'm walking miles and loving it. I've got some many more options when it comes to clothes and i no longer have so much fear about every aspect of life (like chairs with arms!!)

Definitely come over to instagram as the community is amazing.

Good luck and ready to join to losers bench :-)

I love how people who have gone threw bariatric surgery are telling you it’s the best thing they ever did and people who have friends who have had it or seen on tv will tell you how bad it is 🙄🙄😂😂

Figgyboa · 09/07/2021 16:03

Good luck!! Just know that surgery isn't a cure-all, you still need to put in the hard work afterwards...regular exercise, eating healthy foods.

ZaraW · 09/07/2021 17:07

Not sure what's so amusing. It's a serious surgical procedure and there are complications. It's not something someone does lightly. My colleague has to sleep propped up she can't lie flat on her back, and as previously mentioned she is restricted what she can eat.
