I am and feeling quite sad about it. Anyone want to keep each other company while we watch?

Watched the whole match on my own, even the cat left me in peace but she is now zooming around the house with a puffed up tail.

ladygracie · 11/07/2021 23:17

I asked my son about taking the medals off and he says they are pissed off at coming second. Not a disrespect thing.

Goldenbear · 11/07/2021 23:17

My 10 year old DD said she didn't like football but she has been drawn in by the excitement of this team.

I would say that's disrespectful

Why's she doing that? Grin

I can imagine some of the England team might be annoyed at the underhand tactics

ineedanewbum · 11/07/2021 23:19

Feel sorry for the younger players. I think they'll get so much online abuse this week but unreservedly.

But...the players taking off their medals. Talk about rude. Only encourages trolls to give abuse to those 3 young boys. Sore sore losers and let themselves down. If our kids did that at a friendly match I would be disgusted and these are grown men. A disgrace to their country. I would be ashamed to be English after seeing that alone (Irish here). Hope the younger penalty takers will be well taken care of this week.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 11/07/2021 23:19

I think sterling and some of the others should be ashamed for not stepping up and taking the penalties and giving that responsibility to the young players.

That absolutely is disrespectful??

How do you know they didn't? How do you know how it was decided? You don't.
Ilovegreentomatoes · 11/07/2021 23:21

Plus italy played dirty even though yes they probably were the better team overall .

Tippexy · 11/07/2021 23:21

@AnneShirleysNewDress

I'm not English but gutted for Marcus Rashford. Too much pissing about with the ball.
Don’t be gutted for him - he chose to do that bizarre run up!
Ratalie · 11/07/2021 23:21

It's clear as day that Southgate decided the penalty takers. He brought Rashford and Sancho on at the very end just to take penalties.

Idiotic decision by a man that should know better.

It is very poor sportsmanship.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 11/07/2021 23:22

I think you have to volunteer to take the penalties? Unless I'm wrong?

Tippexy · 11/07/2021 23:23

@KitBumbleB

Lots of high profile support for Saka on social media. I think a lot of people realise it wasn't his fault and was too much to ask of a teenager
Saka’s penalty was absolutely not the issue. The more experienced players should realise that penalties in a final is not the time to start experimenting with interpretative dance.
FootballisgoingtoRome · 11/07/2021 23:23

@Gooseberrypies

Don't think them being 'sore losers' really matters when one of them was pulled down by their fucking throat. Dirty cheating fucks, especially the captain
If that makes you feel better and sleep tonight . There was no cheating going on. Didn’t England get through to this match after scoring a penalty that was awarded on a dive. You have a short memory .
CountryGirlAddCoffee · 11/07/2021 23:24

Sorry I haven't rtft but you could really see the age difference between our team and the Italians (who played spectacularly, I must say). That to me just says we have years to hone our young team and come back stronger.
I hope Saka is alright after this, what a tremendous weight on his shoulders. He was very brave to attempt a penalty and I for one couldn't have done better so salute him and look forward to the dreams they all may accomplish

Lemonmelonsun · 11/07/2021 23:24

Sterling has been absolutely amazing in this tournament its not his personal decision to make penalties... Personally I think fresher legs should have all been brought in earlier and certainly not for penalties.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 11/07/2021 23:24

@Ratalie oh fair enough didn't realise it was southgate's final decision.

FudgeFlake · 11/07/2021 23:24

Oh poo Sad

VerticalHorizon · 11/07/2021 23:24

It's usually decided there and then. There is no formal process. It's a matter of whoever volunteers and whoever the manager picks. A combination of both. We have no idea how our were decided, or who volunteered (or was reluctant)

Frownette · 11/07/2021 23:24

@ineedanewbum I've got a feeling it might be protest at Italy violence.

Lemonmelonsun · 11/07/2021 23:25

Country, yes but... Despite them being an older team, we still held them at bay?. We did loose on penalties not in the actual match.

We held them off and scored a goal. We did brilliantly

Spanielstail · 11/07/2021 23:25

Maybe Rashford should have spent more time practicing being a footballer and less time trying to be a socialist hero.

Disgusting removing their medals.

Appalled at the fans too, booing and storming the stadium. Pity that England got to the final and there isn't a lot to be proud of.
