I am and feeling quite sad about it. Anyone want to keep each other company while we watch?

Thanks for the lovely company everyone. So sad, but oh so proud of them.

Lemonmelonsun · 11/07/2021 23:00

This is a fabulous young team... They've got to a final and belong there and our smaller players were pulled about by huge Italian players.

KitBumbleB · 11/07/2021 23:01

England did so well, they played well and played fairly. They can hold their heads up high

MoiraNotRuby · 11/07/2021 23:01

Very proud of our lovely team, great manager, great ethos, they did extremely well.

Womens Euros next year - let's hope England brings it home then.

Thanks for the fun thread xx

I hope the police escort the Italian fans to safety we all know what happens when England lose

Yes it's really worrying. I worry also for the many Italian businesses.
PhilSwagielka · 11/07/2021 23:06

I'm relieved it's over, and while I'm sad for Southgate and the team, I'm also really happy that they came this far. Bring on the World Cup.

I have to say, though, I'm dreading the abuse Rashford, Sancho and Saka will get. Poor Saka, I just wanted to give him a hug. He was crying.

Gareth hugging a sobbing Saka ❤❤❤

FelicityBeedle · 11/07/2021 23:07

(Sorry for my earlier pessimism, was a knee jerk reaction)

KitBumbleB · 11/07/2021 23:07

Lots of high profile support for Saka on social media. I think a lot of people realise it wasn't his fault and was too much to ask of a teenager

Frownette · 11/07/2021 23:08

I really hope there's not much violence tonight

PhilSwagielka · 11/07/2021 23:08

Hopefully they can take heart from the fact that Southgate missed a crucial penalty, and look where he ended up. Saka is young, talented and has years ahead of him. His career ain't over yet.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you're ok.

The least he can do. You don't bring on 2 young players, who have barely played all tournament, specifically to take penalties in the shootout, and also give the 5th penalty to a young kid.

Southgate absolutely fucked it.

This.

PhilSwagielka · 11/07/2021 23:10

I wish he'd let the regulars take the penalties.

Ratalie · 11/07/2021 23:13

Yup. Instead he ratcheted up the pressure on the youngsters (2 of which have only been on the fringes all tournament) in the most spectacular fashion.

He's done so well all tournament but I'm pretty angry at him right now.

toastantea · 11/07/2021 23:13

Why are they taking the medals straight off?

Marmaladee · 11/07/2021 23:13

Why are they all taking the medals off?

MrsTrustice · 11/07/2021 23:14

@username18702.

They seemed to be doing competitive ‘who can sound more pissed off with the result’ and is escalated from there! Very unusual for them.

Lots of cop sirens round here as well.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 11/07/2021 23:14

Why didn't sterling take a penalty? Marcus rashford what a terrible penalty sorry but it was!

Marmaladee · 11/07/2021 23:15

At least the England fans aren't booing the winners.

1jan2021 · 11/07/2021 23:15

It seems like it was a big mistake, as others have pointed out, to bring on two players at the very last minute for the sole purpose of taking a penalty.

Also, I may be wrong but it’s my understanding that players have to actively volunteer to take the penalty. Perhaps we didn’t get enough people step up? Saka is young but at least he had the guts to go for it!

Goldenbear · 11/07/2021 23:15

Pickford is so impressive, it's really fantastic how far they got, such a young team.
