9yo DS unable to be at home!

9yo, high energy ds is currently in summer camp until 2pm. Once home he watches a bit of TV, has a snack and then, if tv/tablets are off limits, he wants to go out and play with friends nearby, no problem. However if they're not available - usually inside on screens - he's unable to come home and just be at home for a bit! He is literally sitting on their drive waiting for them rather then coming back in with me and DC2. Aibu to find this a bit odd? It's as if he's physically uncomfortable not having TV (or ipad which is weekends only) and his brother or I will play or chat to him, I'm very available as such. It's really only at bedtime that he'll take some down time to draw, colour and read.. Would you do anything?

This reminds me of our old neighbourhood kids.
They constantly knocked for dd in the summer holidays and it was so annoying, especially when I’d say no and we were eating dinner, they’d still knock 10 minutes later! Started to pretend we weren’t in.
I had to tell them that dd will knock for them when she is allowed out or she will meet them in the park and not to knock anymore.
It worked and soon they all got bored of each other anyway!

Nothing at all like that as parents, as I've said above, are unaware of it. He waves in the window to friend so he's not disturbing the parents. The friend is there at the window. We were sitting at home waiting to head out, I was just sitting there and he took out his book then after a few minutes stretched his hand across for the remote so I told him to leave it be - he had loads of TV already so he's not being deprived - and he said there was nothing to do. We literally had ten minutes before going out. Anyway he survived. The ironic thing is he'll be the one running to get his hoodie or water bottle etc instead of getting that while bored!
