To not shave my armpits

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 05/07/2021 13:53

I have armpits. They are hairy. Shaving causes massive irritation. Also I don’t have the energy to do them.
I have a doctors appointment today and they will be checking my breasts, under arm area as I’ve been getting some weird symptoms.
They won’t care that my pits are hairy will they?

It doesn't matter about how much effort it takes. Shaving or not shaving are morally neutral (unless you are shaving actual kittens, in which case you are Very, Very Bad). So really, the only question is, do you want to? If not, then don't give it another thought.

Doctors also have to deal with fistulas (fistulae?), oozing boils and gangrene. I'm pretty sure that a bit of pit hair won't even register.

I hope you appointment goes well.

Branleuse · 05/07/2021 15:28

They wont care, and if they did, thats their problem, not yours

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 05/07/2021 15:39

Thanks everyone for all the comments. Yes, even the ones who say it’s easy and won’t take long to do.
I have been maturing these pits for at least 8 years so they are quite lengthy and not at all dainty.
The positive comments are quite empowering. This is the first time I’ll be displaying them. I may not be proudly show my pits today but at least I’ll feel a little less self conscious and it’ll be easier next time too.

@AnoymousCoward

They won't mind at all one way or the other. But how do you get anti-perspirant to work properly without shaving? Maybe my hair is thicker than other people's?
The same way men do!
Theworldisquiethere · 05/07/2021 16:04

I know loads of women who don’t shave! I shave my legs but not my pits purely for personal comfort reasons.

Reallyreallyborednow · 05/07/2021 16:05

I would only consider shaving if it is going to bother YOU. If you'll feel uneasy and self conscious during the appointment, it may be worth it. If you're happy with not shaving it should be a non issue

Thing is, it’s not the hairy armpits that bother me. I would feel uneasy and self conscious because I’d be worrying that other people think I’m lacking self care, or dirty, or unhygienic, or all of those other judgements people pass on women who don’t shave.

Nicolastuffedone · 05/07/2021 16:06

Pit kittens 🤢🤮

CoralSparkles · 05/07/2021 16:07

I personally don’t feel hygienic even if there’s only a few tiny hairs under my armpits. Luckily, I rarely get leg hair so I don’t shave them often. It takes a few seconds to shave your armpits, but if OP’s armpit hair is super long then of course there would be irritation. If you shaved/epilated them when they were short then they wouldn’t irritate. If you have sensitive skin, then search for products suited for sensitive skin.

Or just leave them.

Women are reclaiming body hair. Here's a random selection from a google image search. I'm lucky that my partner prefers all my bits as nature intended. Or maybe, he's the lucky one to find a women who prefers not to shave. I was furry before I met him.

ShinyMe · 05/07/2021 16:16

I stopped shaving just over a year ago, and I like it. I like how they feel. I go swimming a lot and nobody has pointed and laughed. If they're disgusted internally then I don't care.

TooYoungToNotice · 05/07/2021 16:16

Oh no I wouldn't bother. They see unshaven men"s armpits all the time.

I don't do mine at all these days. They are sparse anyway but oh so very long. I may plait them one day with luck.

I need to book in for a cervical smear and I'm not waxing etc for that either. I've started holding myself to the same beauty standards as men. It's very freeing and much cheaper.

Classica · 05/07/2021 16:17

hairy pits are very on-trend

NerrSnerr · 05/07/2021 16:18

@AnoymousCoward the same way as it works for men I suppose?

CoralSparkles · 05/07/2021 16:26

@Blossomtoes OP said she doesn’t shave her armpits because she’s worried about skin irritation. That’s why I said skin tends to be more irritated if you have longer hair or don’t use products suited for sensitive skin.

“ how much energy does shaving your armpit really take.. confused”

More than not doing it

Love this.

@Thisisthemonth don't be a victim of the patriarchy.

So what you are actually saying is armpit hair is unhygienic, o/p isn’t doing it right, and should take your advice on how to shave then she wouldn’t have a problem?

Or you know, butt out and leave people who don’t want to shave, for whatever reason, to make that choice.

Tavelo · 05/07/2021 16:32

I don't shave mine. If I ever remove the hair I wax only although it I'd a bloody painful area to wax. Can't bear the stubble you get after shaving I'd rather just be hairy. I find when they are hair free they feel weird and I feel more sweaty which is unpleasant.,not sure why women are expected to be hair free there to be honest it's a weird one..

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/07/2021 16:37

Take some of these into consideration the next time you reach for the razor:
You're less vulnerable to skin infections. ...
You'll release more pheromones. ...
Your orgasms may be better. ...
Having armpit hair reduces chafing. ...
Your body's temperature may be more regular

No 3 is ...... interesting Wink.

Thisisthemonth · 05/07/2021 16:55

@tallduckandhandsome don't be daft. its nothing to do with the patriarchy. I'm for removing hair because it holds less smell and takes approx 5 seconds to remove when u are already washing yourself .

if the OP loves having hairy pits and is proud of them then surely there would be no reason to ask if she's being unreasonable.

Blossomtoes · 05/07/2021 16:57

I’m going against my own rules here - so, why don’t men do it? Of course it’s to do with the patriarchy.

Youdiditanyway · 05/07/2021 16:58

Nope they won’t care, they’ve seen it all before.

Branleuse · 05/07/2021 17:00

for me, I go through phases of having hairy armpits and then shaving them. I always feel that if having hairy armpits means that i wont do certain things or wear certain clothes then it defeats the object as its still not normalising it.
If youre feeling self conscious but cant shave, then could you maybe trim them with scissors so less bushy?

Screamingcowboy99 · 05/07/2021 17:01

@Thisisthemonth

A lot if you've got to slather it in savlon to calm down the irritation the OP said she suffers from when she shaves.
DerisorySnort · 05/07/2021 17:02

I doubt they'd care. Leave them be if that's what you prefer.
