Will you continue to wear a mask when they’re no longer compulsory?

I can’t really decide how I feel about it- as a pregnant woman with a tendency to get a bit sweaty in the face on warm days, I would like not to have to wear one whenever I’m inside a building that isn’t my own home. And I’m double jabbed so not at much risk. But then you’ve got people from SAGE and the BMA saying we should keep wearing them, and I’d imagine they know a bit better than Sajid Javid whose background is in finance.

What do you think?

YABU- I’ll continue to wear a mask
YANBU - I won’t be wearing a mask anymore.

@essexgirl58

Wednesday's data showed there had been a further 32,548 confirmed Covid cases.

And there were another 33 deaths reported within 28 days of a positive Covid test.

It comes as Boris Johnson has defended the government's approach to easing England's lockdown, saying the link between infection and serious disease and death has been "severed".

The last time cases were at 30k levels the deaths were sky high. On 23 january 33552 cases were reported and 1348 deaths!

The virus, particularly the v infectious delta variant isn’t magically going to vanish come freedom day. I’m pregnant and facing a looong commute on the tube when I start going back to the office. I feel like wearing a mask in crowded spaces (unless you’re exempt) is just common sense which is what Boris is asking us all to employ. I certainly will be doing so to give myself and others an extra layer of protection.

dayslikethese1 · 08/07/2021 10:22

The answers here surprise me. Masks seem such a simple thing and most people I know IRL say they're gonna keep on eith them in indoor spaces especially when there's crowds. Lots of younger people haven't been able to have their 2nd jab yet and long covid is a worry.

A simple thing that covers 70% of your face?
scully29 · 08/07/2021 12:47

Definitely.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 08/07/2021 12:58

Crack on wearing a mask then. It's a big nope from me.

SoupDragon · 08/07/2021 13:25

Are you wearing a gimp mask by mistake?

TooMuchPCInTheWorld · 08/07/2021 13:26

I sincerely hope that those who are adamant that you will not continue to mask up indoors or in crowded spaces are prepared for the day when you might wish with your whole heart that you had continued to wear one...
If a variant emerges that is even faster spreading and can evade any vaccine/immunity levels, Britain (and the rest of the world) will be on its knees once more (in no time) with half of Britain taking no precautions to stop it.
The government is asking people to use their common sense.
This poll has gone up to 57% in favour of masks...so there is hope that common sense will prevail.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 08/07/2021 13:26

No.

Illegal, criminal! Arrest for killing grannies. Our one doesn't cover my mouth. (We have a ball gag for that.)

Juice you wear it correctly it’s meant to go well over your nostrils

Arrowheart · 08/07/2021 13:30

@Peppallama

Nope. My masks do naff all. They're thin bits of material that have been left in my car in a scrunched up ball. We are still using the same 5 disposable masks we got last summer. They're probably responsible for about 20 new strains of covid that evolved in my glove box.
Or the 'back of my jeans pocket' and 'bottom of my handbag' strains.
SoupDragon · 08/07/2021 13:34

Yes. Obviously. 🙄

It's still not 70% of your face.

I have to say, it pretty much is!

(I mean, I'm eyeballing the photo, maybe 66%.)

Taswama · 08/07/2021 13:36

So many of the polls I have seen say - will you continue to wear in crowded spaces and then declare 70% or whatever are in favour of masks continuing to be compulsory.

There is a big difference between a packed commuter train / tube and an empty supermarket on a Sunday afternoon or indeed a school playground outside. You can choose to wear one on the former and not for the other two where you won't be sharing the same airspace with anyone for more than a minute or two.

Challengerice · 08/07/2021 13:38

@SoupDragon

Your response really made me smile!

SoupDragon · 08/07/2021 13:42

Your eyes are roughly halfway down your face so it's not.

Challengerice · 08/07/2021 13:42

And now I’m chuckling! Grin

I think this is a roundabout way of accusing me of being a 50-year-old balding man Hmm
MarshaBradyo · 08/07/2021 13:45

This is making me laugh

It’s a lot of face covered - you don’t get much expression from a forehead or fringe

ginandgingers92 · 08/07/2021 13:49

I think I'll give it a few days to make sure other people have whipped theirs off, then I shall delightedly burn the fuckers.

Jesus Christ such melodrama! You should set that post to dramatic music. If a new variant arrives that ‘brings the world to its knees’ it’s gonna take more than face masks to stop it. If despite my double jabs and my recovery from Covid 19 doesn’t make any difference and I’m going to die, I doubt I’ll be laying on my death bed saying, “damn, if ONLY I’d worn a face mask all this could have been avoided!”

Maybe the vaccine but a face mask? No I wouldn’t

MarshaBradyo · 08/07/2021 16:10

Although I’ve had the vaccine x2 so feeling very low risk at my age and weight
