@RaindropsOnRosie so you were 16 and your husband was 32 when your DC was born, it that correct?

whatswithtodaytoday · 05/07/2021 12:38

I'll be 55. I can't imagine having an 18 year old at my age (39), as so many of you have! All my friends still have young children, primary aged at oldest and mostly toddlers.

Greytminds · 05/07/2021 12:40

55 and 59. Took 5 years to conceive our first DC so I’m older as a parent than I’d planned to be!

I honestly can't imagine being 55 when mine are 18. My oldest will be 32 when I'm 55!

I have to think back.

Depending on which month I was roughly 46 and 49 when my two were each 18.

@Briarshollow

These threads almost always become nasty with the ‘young mums’ getting defensive when the ‘older mums’ saying how glad they are they lived before having kids. 😂
Most threads about age having children do. DD1 made her appearance when I was only 19 (very nearly 20). DH was 22. Now DH and I are looking forward to being in our 40s/50s and not running around after young children. I don’t feel I’ve missed out. I’ll just do the adventurous stuff when I’m older and can afford it.

I wish other people would just mind their own business and keep their comments to themselves. It’s unnecessary to make the comparisons all the time.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/07/2021 12:51

DD1 will be 35 when I’m 55!!! Shock

Abraxan · 05/07/2021 12:54

I was 47y

HelenHywater · 05/07/2021 12:55

dc1 I was 46. dd4 I'll be 59.

BoringBettie · 05/07/2021 12:57

I think it's great! I had them young. So at least I'll have time in my 40s and 50s to enjoy myself again. And I'll have the benefits of knowing exactly what I like and not giving a fuck what people think! Bonus!!

53

I do feel a bit 'old' on this thread which surprised me. I was one of the earliest in my family/friends to have kids at 35.

I'd say I was average age in the school playground (dd has one friends who's mum was 18 when she had her and she's her second kid and one friend who's mum had her at 42). My own mum was 42 and 45 when we turned 18. Her mum was 58 and 60.

Clickbait · 05/07/2021 13:00

I'll be 53 when my youngest DC hits 18.

I think it'll be good. I'm hoping to retire early (late 50s), so it's handy that they'll be through uni and (hopefully!) earning their own money at around the same time that DH and I will be expecting a reduction in income.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/07/2021 13:01

@CharlieWorkCharlieSad

Completely agree! I’d quite like a third child but reading this thread has made me realise that I’d like a cut off for having children so I can enjoy my later life. DD2 is 6.5y younger than DD1 and I don’t want such a big age gap again if we do have a third.

stealthbanana · 05/07/2021 13:01

53&55

This thread is an eye opener. I don’t know a single person who would be anywhere near 40 when their oldest turns 18. My friend with the oldest child had hers at 27 (and she referred to herself as a “child bride” Grin).

It’s like another world.

ThePearlOfDumbarton · 05/07/2021 13:02

Well im 51 with an 18 year old and she always tells me how young i look, how i have lovely hair, how i put outfits together well, and then yes sometimes asks for money 😆 but i dont feel she thinks of me as an older mother.

I wish id had her a bit younger and i know some of her friends' mums arent yet 40 😬 but it's ok to be in your 50s with an 18 year old.

My 15 year old though, i wish he were older ykwim

TigerTulip · 05/07/2021 13:03

The first one was ok, I was 45.
The second (dd) was tricky, as I was 52 and at the tail end of menopause. This meant that as she was going through puberty and her difficult teenage years I was going through peri menopause. It was a.....difficult few years, least said soonest mended.
