Was taking granddaughter and her friend to school. The friend forgot her water bottle on the way to school so I went to the shop and bought her one for school. No acknowledgement at all from mum. Aibu to find this rude?

I suspect the child didn't tell her parents...

Arbadacarba · 01/07/2021 18:14

Does the mum definitely know it was you who bought it? If so, yes, she should thank you.

Backhills · 01/07/2021 18:15

I expect mum has no idea.

Unmute · 01/07/2021 18:15

Unless you told her you'd done it she probably didn't notice

Mymapuddlington · 01/07/2021 18:16

My DP gave a childs dad 150 yugioh cards for him after he wouldn’t stop talking about it. A couple of days later we bumped into the child and DP asked how we was getting on with the cards. Turns out the dad had said they were from him and not us which we thought was really rude.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/07/2021 18:17

Dear me, do you want a thank you card? It was a water bottle fgs not a kidney! You did a nice thing, I bet the child was grateful probably didn't tell her mum, leave it at that.

Ari202 · 01/07/2021 18:18

I don’t know why you want some kind of special acknowledgment for buying a child a bottle of water.
She probably didn’t even tell her mum. It’s just a bottle of water ffs.

ThursdayWeld · 01/07/2021 18:19

The child probably left it at school, and/or the mum has no idea.

You sound like a lot of work!

kindaclassy · 01/07/2021 18:19

if the mum knows, yes it's rude not to say thank you

but it's assuming a lot that she does know.

Shoppingwithmother · 01/07/2021 18:20

Yes, if she knows of course the Mum should thank you....or of course the Dad.

However, I don’t think there was any need for you to go and buy a water bottle for someone else’s child. It’s not your problem that they/their parents forgot it. Depending on their age I don’t think it’s a good idea to even do this for your own child - if they are inconvenienced for a day or told off at school then they will remember in future probably. And the teachers won’t let them die of thirst anyway!

It’s kind of you though, as I said.

Nohomemadecandles · 01/07/2021 18:20

A water bottle or a bottle of water?

Mymapuddlington · 01/07/2021 18:23

A water bottle or a bottle of water?

Ooh good point. A £10 reusable water bottle is a lot different to a £1 bottle of water.

Aprilx · 01/07/2021 18:23

Do you mean you bought a bottle of water or you bought a reusable water bottle? If the former, I wouldn’t expect it to be even on the radar.

Cam22 · 01/07/2021 18:32

It’s rude.

ahoyshipmates · 01/07/2021 18:44

It's rude. Assuming she actually knows of course.

phoenixrosehere · 01/07/2021 18:51

Why did you buy the child a water bottle? Surely, they have water at school. It was for one school day. Do you know if the child even told her parents that you did or just assuming rudeness?

ApolloandDaphne · 01/07/2021 18:53

It's probably still in her school bag and her mum hasn't even seen it.

PurpleyBlue · 01/07/2021 18:57

Did the friend not thank you?

BrilliantBetty · 01/07/2021 19:15

Have you seen the mum since? Does she even know this occurred?

I wouldn't be offended, maybe she's got a lot on her plate?

Choice4567 · 01/07/2021 19:18

I wouldn’t thank for a bottle of water no. Probably because it went out of the child’s head or the mums. A very small thing to be worried about.

TheMotherlode · 01/07/2021 19:19

My child has dozens of water bottles so I suspect I wouldn’t even notice if a new one turned up Confused

vincettenoir · 01/07/2021 19:24

YABU. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Chikapu · 01/07/2021 19:26

She's probably busy organising your parade.

transformandriseup · 01/07/2021 19:26

I'd think as long as the friend said thank you that would be enough. I suspect she has probably probably gone out of her head by now or she just hasn't told her mum.
