Posting here for traffic.

Woke up yesterday with a migraine with aura which I sometimes I get, had a pounding headache all day.

This morning woke up with a pounding headache again and it's making me feel I'll. I took paracetamol and it's not helping.

Please share with me your migraine remedies. My daughters are on school holidays now and I have to entertain them so this couldn't of come at a worse time.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

I took some stronger painkillers from the pharmacy with a cup of coffee and it seems to have helped take the edge of.

Just hoping I do not wake up with a headache again tomorrow morning as that will be 3 days in a row.

I have a Cefaly device and used it daily for 9 months,it is very relaxing and the routine made me relax for 20 minutes. It was recommended by the consultant.I was offered Botox on the NHS at the Migraine clinic in Plymouth but I no longer thankfully need the appointment.I also eat a gluten free diet which has really helped with energy levels.Try and see a neurologist if you can I paid privately and was worth every penny the waiting list on the NHS is very very long.Good luck.

Another vote for a daily magnesium supplement. Mine have reduced in frequency and severity. Also (and you can get apps for this) keep a food diary to see if you have any dietary triggers, and make sure you’re getting enough sleep too. Lack of sleep and being over tired trigger mine.

Guavafish · 29/06/2021 17:42

Aspirin 300mg or sumatriptan!

Silvercatowner · 29/06/2021 17:49

Chiropractic cured my son's migraines. Turns out that they were triggered by tension in his neck.

PulledPineapple · 29/06/2021 17:53

Anadin Extra is the only think that 100% gets rid of my migraine if I’ve run out of triptans.

It’s paracetamol, aspirin and caffeine. I was surprised at how well it worked.

Thereshegoesagain · 29/06/2021 17:54

Know your triggers, mine is overendulging in chocolate and lack of sleep, I HAVE to be asleep before midnight.
I also take my plows with me, if I don't my neck aches and it usually leads to. Migraine.
The first sign, the tiniest niggle, I take 2 paracetamols and 1 ibuprofen.
If that doesn't work, sumatriptan.
Mine seem to come as clusters, a few weeks with loads, a few months without.
I take magnesium regularly, but don't think it makes a difference.
I'm planning on a daith piercing this summer.

Cinnamon12345 · 29/06/2021 17:55

Solphadol then ibuprofen if it's not going.

PinkSkyPurple · 29/06/2021 17:59

After a 2 day migraine, the only thing that worked for me was x2 dissolvable aspirins in a full fat can of coke.

waitingforlifeonmars · 29/06/2021 17:59

I used to take cocodamol and it work for a few years, then stopped. I was told by gp that codeine can make them last longer. I stopped the cocodamol and they are a day shorter now.
I was told Ibuprofen 600mg 3 times a day. When this didn't work, I was given naproxen - killed my stomach.
Various triptans and finally settled on naratriptan, and sleep. The naratriptan means I can function reasonably well during the day.

TheGumption · 29/06/2021 18:11

At the merest hint of one I have full fat coke and some solpadeine. I don't bother with paracetamol anymore it never worked. If I can't catch it before it really kicks in the having something really cold on my head helps but doesn't relieve it.

JackieTheFart · 29/06/2021 18:13

Triptans do not work for me - I’ve tried several.

My doctor told me with migraines you stomach ‘seizes’ so take care to take painkillers ASAP as otherwise you’ll likely just throw up.

My remedy is two paracetamol and two ibuprofen, and then lie down with a cool cloth across my forehead and back of my neck. So long as I do this pronto it tends to work. Mostly I’ll take a pair of socks to use as my cool cloths as my family are incapable of squeezing out flannels so they stink!

I almost always have a migraine hangover afterwards, a full fat coke and something salty generally helps a lot.

GlamourSpider · 29/06/2021 18:14

Another vote for Sumatriptan if you can get it and soluble co-codamol mixed with a sugary drink if not. If you struggle with vomiting I also recommend trying to take a diarylte as it'll help with salt / hydration even if you can't keep it all down as all the vomming will make the migraine situ worse ...

Gynel · 31/10/2021 21:42

Have you tried to find what triggers the migrane? It might help to have a diary. Personally, I'm using natural products that helps me a lot with my migraine

@Mustardbay

Sumatriptan is the only thing that helps mine.
Me too. Sunatriptain. And ice on the sore bit.. till I can't take it any more, then put a warm hand over it- I get about 15 seconds relief. Also, I eat stodgy food! Hope it gets better for you soon!!
Avarua · 01/11/2021 01:53

Migraines are STRONGLY associated with gut health. Up your gut bacteria with organic apple cider vinegar, Kombucha or yoghurt.

Avarua · 01/11/2021 01:54

Also, if I eat raw chia seeds or very high fibre foods I get bloating within 4 hours and a migraine next day. So take a look at your diet.

Avarua · 01/11/2021 01:55

I'm very Hmm at the strong medications being advocated here! Diet first.

Avarua · 01/11/2021 01:56

gut bacteria link

FindingMeno · 01/11/2021 02:49

Short term - cold flannel, otc migraine medication, stay off screens, drink plenty.
Longer term - triptans and menopause

KatieB55 · 01/11/2021 05:38

Consultant said not to take paracetamol as it causes rebound headaches. Try and get referred to migraine clinic.

BeMoreHedgehog · 01/11/2021 06:45

Your digestive system doesn’t work properly when you have a migraine so you may struggle to absorb painkillers after a certain point. Painkillers that are in suppository form will circumnavigate that issue.

BeautifulBirds · 01/11/2021 07:17

Triptan
Paracetamol
500mg caffine

Repeat 4 hours later

Long term... Nerve block injections or botox
