Just that. But somehow feels embarrassing to admit how much I CRAVE the stuff.

Someone tell me I’m not alone??

When people start waffling on about how humans are the only animals that drink the milk of another species I do wonder if they have ever spent any actual time near farm or wild animals.

Most mammals and many birds given half a chance will happily drink the milk from other mammals.

What??? That's blatantly not true. Birds don't drink milk naturally at all. They might drink from containers with milk in them but that's only because humans have intervened, it's certainly not a wild behaviour and I don't even think they have the ability to digest dairy. As for other mammals it's also 100% not a natural behaviour to drink other mammals milk. You might get rare cases of cross species feeding in infants, if they're born in an unnatural environment like a farm or a zoo, and yes cats/dogs will drink milk if put out for them, but it doesn't happen in nature and it's not good for them.

Humans literally are the only animal to regularly consume another animals milk. That said if you have footage of a crow milking a cow or a fox suckling a badger, please feel free to share that with the rest of us.

I can only tolerate a small amount of lactose free milk in tea. the thought of drinking it makes me go green, I can't even kiss someone who has drunk milk Envy

Mummyof2andapig · 29/06/2021 14:00

Ew hormone juice

Strokethefurrywall · 29/06/2021 14:03

Ew hormone juice

Yep, disgusting stuff.

Perfectlystill · 29/06/2021 14:06

My teenagers love drinking milk and I vaguely assume it's good for them, but haven't drunk it myself since I was pregnant, when I had it with chocolate Nesquik stirred in.

The thought of drinking milk now is absolutely revolting! I have a little bit of semi-skimmed in my morning cup of tea and two cups of coffee, and that's it.

But there are worse addictions to have!

itsmellslikepopcarn · 29/06/2021 14:10

Rank stuff.

Whoever said milk is beneficial for calcium, it’s been shown that there is absolutely no difference in cases of osteoporosis or bone fractures between people who eat dairy and those who dont. Because there’s calcium in all sorts, beans, tofu, soy, spinach, some nuts, kale, brussel sprouts..

PaganOfTheGoodTimes · 29/06/2021 14:11

@tiari - same here, craved it through my last pregnancy and baby was diagnosed with CMPA, wonder if it's connected?

YANBU anyway OP, I love the stuff. I get mine non homogenised from a local dairy and we drink icy cold buckets of the creamy stuff... though weirdly I hate it in tea, I have to use UHT skimmed for that!

Scrowy · 29/06/2021 14:11

They might drink from containers with milk in them but that's only because humans have intervened

So as I said, they will drink another mammals milk given half a chance? I'm not talking about mammals suckling from different species (because after all that's not what humans do to cows either) but the claim that animals don't drink another animals milk.

They do, happily, given the chance.

Doesn't matter if humans have intervened or not, animals generally don't turn down the opportunity of food because 'eww it came from another animal'.

As for birds it was very common back in the 'old days' for small birds to peck the foil lids on milk bottles to get to the cream underneath.

so little understanding here

HotHointheavo · 29/06/2021 15:11

Oh me too!

I could drink gallons of the stuff!

Hestartedoffsowell · 29/06/2021 15:23

thisplaceisweird
actually sorry to say but they do pump cows full of hormones. How else would they produce milk round the clock without a baby?

Utter rubbish, the cows produce milk because they're being milked twice a day after the calf has been removed. Organic cows and cows in general in this country are not pumped full of hormones, America on the other hand ...

LadyEloise · 29/06/2021 17:35

You peachyandkeen and my dh.

Yuck.
Though I did love it when I was a child, particularly milk from Jersey cows.
There was a famous chain of restaurants in Dublin called Bewleys, set up by a Quaker family. They had their own Jersey herd on their farm outside Dublin.

I read that the first foodstuff you should buy when you decide to buy organic foodstuffs is milk. Due to nasty stuff given to cows or used in grass production/ cattle food.
So I do.

Ladybird69 · 29/06/2021 21:49

@peachyandkeen I do have just a couple of pints per day. But I find ice cold milk so refreshing.

Justcashnosweets · 29/06/2021 21:58

Milk is my favorite drink, and I crave it if I don't drink enough!

peachyandkeen · 29/06/2021 22:17

I have just guzzled a bottle of strawberry milk … [drools]

I find that if I regularly drink milk in an evening and then abruptly stop, then I sometimes get heartburn. I think it is because my stomach is expecting milk at that time and so makes more acid in anticipation, a bit like Pavlov's dogs but lower down. I try now to just have a little bit.

DukeofEarlGrey · 30/06/2021 15:32

@Curlygirl06 your cereal and creamy milk combo is also my favourite vice. I’m jealous of your ability to eat it and stay slim! My favourite is M&S chocolate granola and whole organic milk. I can’t keep it in the house or I would wolf it all

DukeofEarlGrey · 30/06/2021 15:33

Also am enjoying the fact that there’s a fairly serious and informative debate going on here about dairy but the real addicts are just looking for inspiration 😂

My mouth filled with saliva when I read this.

Had a bowl of it tonight, thick lumps of cream as well. Happy days!

Cactusmum · 01/07/2021 10:51

yes LOVE IT! Good with a double shot of espresso and ice too.. grew up on a farm where we milked our own cows and goats, nothing better than pulling a bottle out of the fridge with two inches of cream on the top so you have to shake it before you pour it. yuuuummm... could literally live on it!

Maggiesfarm · 01/07/2021 11:23

I like milk very much too and sometimes I crave it. There's nothing wrong with that, it's good for you.

Don't shake it, the solid lumps of cream are the best bits! I've got a bottle brewing a large amount of solid cream on the top right now. I might have it tonight but we've got scones and clotted cream to eat tonight so it may have to wait.
