Think I’m addicted to drinking milk - anyone else?

Just that. But somehow feels embarrassing to admit how much I CRAVE the stuff.

Someone tell me I’m not alone??

The thought of milk makes me feel sick. My husband drinks it and when I was pregnant, if I saw him drink it, I'd retch 😂

I guess it's much healthier for you than other addictions though 😊
I'm genuinely addicted to Coke Zero. I have about 4 cans a day and I'm starting to get stomach problems.

aliensprig · 29/06/2021 07:56

You're addicted because of the hormone casein, which is present in human milk too. It helps to keep the baby coming back for more. Though cows milk is actually meant for calves Sad the thought of someone taking my baby away so that they could steal my breastmilk is bloody weird, not to mention heartbreaking. Have you tried any plant milks?

Casein is why so many people can't give up dairy.

cocoloco987 · 29/06/2021 07:59

*@NiceGerbil but what about the sugar and the hormones? Also I’m pretty sure that once we stop being children we lose the ability to stop being able to tolerate milk and our systems don’t really like it. I read something about it a while ago. BUT - it’s primarily the hormones that concern me.

I thought you meant artificial hormones so was going to suggest organic however I see you don't. It's still way nicer though but might end up costly if you have a habit 😆

StillCalmX · 29/06/2021 08:00

Interesting. I wonder what it is about it that you like. Do you take the chill off it?
I had to switch to almond milk a while ago, i worry milk is not a great drink for women with a lot of breast cancer in the family.

There are more harmful addictions!
I get through a litre of sprklng watr a day and im not taking any jip from anybody about it!
🥛

@NiceGerbil actually sorry to say but they do pump cows full of hormones. How else would they produce milk round the clock without a baby?

AliceLivesHere · 29/06/2021 08:14

I love it.

Hot, cold - yummy.

PopsicleHustler · 29/06/2021 08:16

Milk lover here. I have it everyday but too much gives me a bad tummy. I had 2 pint glasses and a bowl of krave and ended up with diarrhoea!!!!

PopsicleHustler · 29/06/2021 08:19

@Houseofvelour oh yes. Me too. I have two to three 1 litre bottles spread out over a week or I would be I'll.

I love water though. I literally drink about 10 to 12 pints a day. Am currently breastfeeding and so I need it by the gallon atm

QueenAdreena · 29/06/2021 08:22

Ooh I LOVE a pint of milk - has to be filtered though! Probably also drink a pint a day, never given it much thought though really.

Aggy35 · 29/06/2021 08:22

I'm sure your body can get used to a lot of stuff.Bearing in mind that its by nature created to feed a baby cow and has lots of hormones etc in it id make sure I don't consume too much of it.

1940s · 29/06/2021 08:25

It leaches calcium from your bones so it's a terrible source of calcium

OldTinHat · 29/06/2021 08:37

🤢🤢🤢🤢

thisplaceisweird · 29/06/2021 08:41

Drinking cows milk will be the new smoking in 20 years time

mustlovegin · 29/06/2021 08:44

I’m pretty sure that once we stop being children we lose the ability to stop being able to tolerate milk and our systems don’t really like it

Some ethnic groups continue producing lactase (the enzyme needed to digest milk sugars) well into adulthood (I believe it's primarily the Nordics).

Some other groups don't, hence the bloating, etc

mustlovegin · 29/06/2021 08:45

I love everything dairy Smile

mustlovegin · 29/06/2021 08:46

they do pump cows full of hormones

Try organic

BountyIsUnderrated · 29/06/2021 08:50

I wish I could drink it but I wouldn't go for days. Blush

Dairy makes me terribly constipated, its a shame because it would be great as a meal substitute when dieting.

Too much calcium can inhibit your absorption of iron so make sure you don’t drink it with iron rich food.

A pint a day is not too much.

I love dairy but can’t have milk at the moment. Although I’m starting to worry I will become lactose intolerant after too much time away. I do like oat milk but not as much so I have to take a vile calcium supplement.

TeamNegan · 29/06/2021 09:03

I love milk! I can’t drink as much of it as I’d like to as I’m calorie counting but I always have at least 1 ice cold glass a day. Yum. As long as I don’t think about the smell of warm milk cartons from primary school 😂

PattyPan · 29/06/2021 09:03

I came to say what @aliensprig said, milk is literally addictive because of the casein. It’s disgusting and the thought of drinking is repulsive to me though, I haven’t consumed it since I was a toddler, not even in cereal or tea.

Toebean · 29/06/2021 09:08

Nope

Scrowy · 29/06/2021 09:10

Please can you provide evidence of cows in the UK being pumped with hormones to keep them milking

(you won't be able to by the way because it doesn't happen)

dontforgettofloss · 29/06/2021 09:25

I used to love milk, but it had to be ice cold, and frothy, so I'd give the bottle a good shake, now I can't stand the stuff

BonnyEm · 29/06/2021 09:32

When I was expecting ds1 I drank 4-6 pints of milk a day. Now I only have it on my cereal.
