I’ll start! Miso soup (from the jar, sachets are rubbish) with very finely sliced asparagus and spring onions. Takes 2 minutes and kills a salty food craving 🍜

If weightloss is the goal I agree that trying to break the snacking habit is best.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 27/06/2021 22:05

I have a sweet tooth; for around 100 calories you can have a two finger Kit Kat, one finger twix biscuit, penguin, time out, or similar. Popcorn is good, I like the mixed sweet and salty. I’m not saying they’re super healthy choices, but having something small, when I fancy it, means I don’t end up binging on junk.
This time of year I’d take advantage of in season fruit as well, while things like strawberries are naturally sweet.

Aldi do sugar free fruit drops - 15 calories for two and good to suck on one to deceive yourself that you are having a proper sweet

I recall a TV program a few months ago that was researching claims that peppermint supressed appetite - they had several different groups, including peppermint tea, teeth-brushing, I think peppermint sweets, and a control group with no intervention.
The various peppermint groups did better than the control group, so maybe worth going for the peppermint flavoured ones?
I bought a box at the time, but I don't like peppermint flavoured things, makes me sneeze.

Not a snack exactly, but I do find cleaning my teeth stops me wanting to snack.

Interesting, I have a box of them unopened as I opened the fruit ones first and got a bit addicted to them.

I know what you mean about the clean teeth feeling. Will definitely need to get the mint ones opened

Instead of 2 meals - stuff your face with a great big snack instead - a couple of doorstep cheese on toast, 2 eggs any way, a mahoosive salad with lots of tasty, salty things chucked in or Cereal/Muesli/Porridge tarted up with fruit and yoghurt, adding some extra milk at the end ekes it out whilst filling you up.

Forget mealtimes - just eat when you're hungry and wait, a bit before you eat, then eat. Set mealtimes is the root of getting fatter in our sedentary times, it's too hard for many to be able to burn off enough calories without being on a constant diet or factor in 'organized' physical activity.

Although I'm slimish in my late 50s, it's mostly because my work has always included a bit of physical exertion and family life has turned out not to revolve around the set concept of 3 Meals a Day.

I really do sympathise with the many people that diet to get slim when it's probaly just they're forced to spend too much time at their desks or too knackered at the end of each day to prep up a super-healthy meal to suit all each day.

Just give me Cake, is a pleasure/medication that we should all enjoy; without worrying about it making us fat.

bigbaggyeyes · 27/06/2021 22:43

Popcorn
Low cal hot chocolate

ExhaustedFlamingo · 27/06/2021 22:51

OP asked for low cal snacks - genuinely not sure what the point is of commenting to say "don't eat snacks". If it's just to show off how superior you are as you don't need snacks then well done, have a medal.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 27/06/2021 22:57

In my irritation, I pressed enter rather than finishing my comment....

What I was going to say was that I often struggle to get my meals on time. I've got two SEN children and things go tits up sometimes and meals can be very, very late. A healthy snack keeps me going and stops me gorging myself when I finally get my meal.

Also, quite aside from that, I enjoy a snack. I prefer smaller meals and a light snack in between them. Same calorific content - and probably less as if I'm ravenous by the time I get to my dinner time, I will eat too much as I can't seem to satisfy my hunger.

We all have different eating habits, and providing your intake is balanced and not too high in calories, snacks are fine. Personally I like a munch on protein; seems to keep me fuller. I really enjoy a couple of slices of chicken etc. Basic I know, but it works for me.

There's no need to demonise snacks.

WouldBeGood · 27/06/2021 23:04

There is no need. I’m aiming for calorie deficit and snacks are fine.

CupOfTPlease · 27/06/2021 23:15

@Benjispruce3

Yes I find the lowest calorie snack is none at all. Ok?
I think you came on the thread to rile people up. Are you bored?

Continue to snack on air.

CupOfTPlease · 27/06/2021 23:17

I've lost nearly 2 stone and snack.

I love a good snack, there is no way I'm not snacking.

The skinny bars are nice.
Yogurt fruit slices.
Granola bar.
Low calorie crisps.
Asda's onion and chive breadsticks!

BlueBellsArePretty · 27/06/2021 23:23

Cottage cheese from Lidl is delicious. I just eat it like yoghurt.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/06/2021 23:24

Ignoring the usual "omg don't snack"🙄

I love sauerkraut on rye rivita with bit of mustard and slice of salami or pastrami. Salty, savoury, belly healthy.
Yogurt and fruit.
Hardboiled egg whites, bit of yogurt, herbs, pepper on rye rivita or corn cakes.
Apple and cheese.
Tzaziki
Hummus and veg
