Where can I find decent quality chicken breaststroke

99 replies

cheesecrackerz · 27/06/2021 19:09

Tesco and Sainsburys chicken breaststroke seem to be pumped full of water which comes out when they're coked and it's disgusting

I am fed up with it, and it's beginning to be incredibly off putting!

Is waitrose or co op any better?
No M and S, asda, aldi, lidl, morrisons near us..

A more serious answer is muscle foods. It's from Poland unfortunately but never get any liquid out and it's still moist.

@notanotherusernameidea Polish chicken designed to be eaten in quantity - that DOES sound like it’s going to be good animal welfare meat Hmm

OP, try Waitrose. Their Essential range isn’t that expensive and their welfare standards are good.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/06/2021 20:09

Or another option is to use thigh meat - much tastier IMO and much less chance of it drying out and going tough.

littledrummergirl · 27/06/2021 20:13

I don't know but you could try backstroke.

TableFlowerss · 27/06/2021 20:14

Why don’t you try the horn fed chicken? I’ve always found this to be more ‘meaty’, better quality.

TableFlowerss · 27/06/2021 20:15

corn

PurpleyBlue · 27/06/2021 20:15

You could try growing your own?

Ah, another contrived auto-correct thread right on the heels of the 'bastard monkfish' hilarity.
Yup
Keeping2ChevronsApart · 27/06/2021 20:17

@Immunetypegoblin

I've got a mental image of chickens in swimming pools now.

Nice Grin

Goggles you mean 😀

All supermarket chicken, including the super expensive stuff, is horrendous for this in my experience. Swapped to local butcher 18 months ago and the difference is enormous. Worth specifically saying you’re looking for chicken with no added water - our butcher has both.

OxanaVorontsova · 27/06/2021 20:21

Crafted meats

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 27/06/2021 20:22

Costco.

Mintjulia · 27/06/2021 20:23

Local butcher or farm shop.

Mintjulia · 27/06/2021 20:25

I gave up on Tesco meat when I tried to fry bacon and it boiled no matter how hot the pan. I use a village butcher now. It's about 10% more expensive but at least it cooks properly.

Indeed. It’s astonishing that anyone falls for this shit any more. ‘Nominate me for Classics, pleeeeeeeease!?’

@Growuppeople

God why do people think it’s SOOOOO ‘spat out my tea, woke the baby up’ funny. It’s fake as IF someone doesn’t check the title AND the OP ffs. Feel embarrassed for some people So cringy
Feel very "cringy" for you. Fake as IF sooooooooo cringe. I'm mega embarrassed for you. Actually I'm not, I don't give a fuck. Ever.
Crankley · 27/06/2021 20:32

I buy a lot of my meat, including free range supremes from here. www.turnerandgeorge.co.uk/chicken-breast.html Not cheap but I haven't found better.

Another vote for musclefoods. the origin does vary. I have had Polish, Irish and British and you have to be able to buy in bulk. Can't speak for welfare but its certified as cage free and no added water or salt.
2021DNA · 27/06/2021 20:35

I’d try a local butcher or Waitrose. I’ve found they are better quality than Tesco.

starsinyourpies · 27/06/2021 20:36

I get Sainsbury's taste the difference ones and they are good!

LakieLady · 27/06/2021 20:47

Waitrose chicken breasts are fine, but I can't remember if the ones I but are cornfed or not.

I mostly get mine from a local farm shop.

Womendohavevaginasnick · 27/06/2021 20:50

Not surprised it's disgusting if it's coked up. That said, I don't think Tesco get their chickens high before slaughter, but then again, I'm no abbatoir, so, who knows?

Least they died happy.

sergeilavrov · 27/06/2021 21:10

Try your nearest Kosher meat supplier: they don’t ‘plump’ the chicken with broth or water. Instead the exterior is salted. Either rinse off or don’t add extra salt to season.

DixonD · 27/06/2021 21:15

@NavigationCentral

Is this another one of those slightly desperate attempts to get a thread into classics claiming autocorrect has made a typo?

There was a similar one recently about apparently bastarding a monkfish

I thought this too; maybe I’ve been here too long and become cynical!
cheesecrackerz · 27/06/2021 21:39

Thanks for recommendations

Will have a look into butchers near us although none particularly close (central london) or some of those online order butchers (if they're not sold out!)

In the meantime will give some corn fed Waitrose a try

Will not be going vegan, although thanks to those that suggested it Grin

@Oysterbabe

Breaststroke is pretty tricky with wings, that they are attempting it at all is impressive.
