I feel the same way, i was 7-17 in the 90s and as a pp said its like being homesick but can't go back. I was listening to the the Bluetones slight return the other day, I honestly haven't heard that song since the 90s and I actually felt like crying, it made me feel so nostalgic it was almost unbearable! Definitely a great time to be young and without all that social media shite!

I am more nostalgic for my 80s childhood because there was less teenage angst. But now I don't cringe so much about that I have great memories of dodgy outfits, nights out, gigs, festivals and good music being around all the time.

However, it all felt pretty normal at the time and I expect we'll all be nostalgic for these days one day. Our kids will watch Motherland repeats and talk about it it as though we never saw it, and we'll look through our rose tinted specs and say "I was never a Boris fan but really he was a feminist at heart" Wink

I agree, it was a great decade - full of optimism, before reality TV and social media existed, when anything seemed possible.

Today everything feels a bit dystopian, but hopefully once the pandemic ends we can regain some good times. Also we can at least be thankful for the technology that makes online shopping and banking possible, and has helped to develop vaccines and make them available to millions. Without that technology the pandemic may have been far worse.

Nope, 7-17. I was a plain looking overweight child with parents that took no interest in fashion (barely kept us clean) I missed most of the music as we were only allowed to listen to the stuff my parents liked (60's and 70's stuff mostly).
It was the 00's when I (finally) hit my stride! My own money to buy clothes and makeup, a car to actually get the things I wanted and most importantly my independence...I agree with a previous poster in that you remember fondly the decade of your youth that you enjoyed, doesn't really matter how shite it was Grin

I've been watching the C5 90s songs too. I've realised that Tommy Cunningham is actually quite attractive Grin I was 11 to 21, met DH right at the end of the 90s. Happy times.

I left school in 1990 ,and by 96 I had qualified as a nurse ,the 90,s for me represents being young and growing up ,mainly carefree ,some 90,s music was utterly shit ,but it does make me smile ,.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 26/06/2021 16:40

The 90s were the baby/young children years for me, they were born in 1992 and 1995. I have no idea what else was going on 😂

Grapewrath · 26/06/2021 16:58

I feel like the 90s was my spiritual home. Everything felt amazing and the world seemed light and fun.

ProfYaffle · 26/06/2021 16:58

I turned 18 in 1990 - safe to say I wrung every drop of life out of the 90s!

I lived in the north west. My memories of the 80s were recession and poverty. Teachers telling us not to give up hope on finding a job, closed factories and run down infrastructure.

I feel like my generation were the first not to have an expectation of factory jobs for life but because we never had it we didn't really feel the loss.

By the time the 90s rolled around there was so much energy and creativity. Old empty buildings being re-purposed by small businesses, magazines, clubs, bars, rehearsal space, recording studios etc It was such an exciting time.

Grapewrath · 26/06/2021 17:00

I think actually, for me it was leaving my abusive and neglectful home as a teenager and actually getting out in the world and realising that life wasn’t actually shit. I remember feeling totally free and liberated. Anything from that era takes me back to that amazing place I was in

EachandEveryone · 26/06/2021 21:01

Its back on again now.

Lipsandlashes · 26/06/2021 21:05

YANBU The 90s were fucking fabulous and I’m so glad I was a teenager through the majority of it
