And they do not make music like that anymore. I felt the same watching Weller last weekend it makes me all emotional.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 25/06/2021 23:41

The 90s just felt optimistic. I miss that feeling.

AllisoninWunderland · 25/06/2021 23:54

YANBU at all.

I was a teen in the 90s so nostalgia plays a big part, but there was no doubt at all it was a hedonistic era. Today’s youth are not experiencing what we did back then. It was like one non-stop party! The clubs, the raves and the gigs. Ah..... to be back there.

The music is the defining thing for me. The grunge; Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, the rock/alt/indie scene; Radiohead, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, New Order, REM, dance and trip hop (too many to list!).

Loved the Glasto program too 😊

AllisoninWunderland · 25/06/2021 23:54

Oh Paul Weller! Yes!!!! I’m sticking Wild Wood on tomorrow.

Tomorrow? It needs to be heard NOW!

Tealightsandd · 25/06/2021 23:58

Early to mid 90s were ok.
But then that fateful day in 1997. The start of Blair. The beginning of the end (particularly for disabled people).

AllisoninWunderland · 26/06/2021 00:00

Lol @elp30 I’m in bed.
Mind you I’ve got Spotify on my phone...
Class album.

AllisoninWunderland · 26/06/2021 00:01

Who out there loved Massive Attack?

Oh and Portishead and Tricky??

SwimmingOnEggshells · 26/06/2021 00:02

There was such great variety of music in the 90s:

Britpop, rave/dance, US soul/RnB, rap/hiphop, grunge. Love them all!

I really try with today's indie but I just can't get into it. Modern pop/dance kicks current indie's ass

Loved all of them, \m/ to the Bristol music scene
SwimmingOnEggshells · 26/06/2021 00:04

@AllisoninWunderland Maxinquaye was a masterpiece

Namechange600 · 26/06/2021 00:04

The 90s were amazing... so much good music... indie clubs were my home - LA2 and popscene.. 100 club....just loved it

AllisoninWunderland · 26/06/2021 00:09

@SwimmingOnEggshells it really was. Going to give it a full listen tomorrow.

Bristol really did shine on the music scene back then.
Manchester too. Although I’m biased as I’m a Mancunian 🐝 💪🏼

MrsBobDylan · 26/06/2021 00:09

I'm a nineties lass - I think I am reliving some of it via fashion and hair cut.

I was either pissed or high for the whole decade, so I don't remember much. I realised tonight I went to Glastonbury in 1995 but can only remember snippets, which is tragic really.

MadMadMadamMim · 26/06/2021 00:15

I don't think I remember the 90s tbh. I had my first child in 1991 and proceeded to have four more in 6 years. By 1997 I hadn't slept a full night throughout the decade. By the millennium I still had a pre-schooler.

I'm sure they were a lovely decade if you actually remember participating in fun activities. Mine all seemed to involve shit and snot unfortunately.

ha, I'm listening to it now as well.

I'm Irish so go figure, just genuinely good music!

SanguineParadise · 26/06/2021 00:19

Where is the Glastonbury documentary that everyone keeps mentioning? BBC? Netflix?

Spanglybangles · 26/06/2021 01:28

Many of the best times of my life were in the 90’s, my heart too pines for these days. I was 15-25 during that decade and the memories of the incredible times, with great people, dancing to the best dance music will stay with me forever. The drugs were really good too. No online evidence, just memories of shared times. I’m sad my kids will never know the 90’s.

AllisoninWunderland · 26/06/2021 09:23

@Spanglybangles
It was on BBC4 so you get it now on iplayer.

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. I’m also sad my children won’t experience anything like we did but then again I’m kind of glad! All the drugs & booze 😆

MissCalamity · 26/06/2021 10:11

I've been watching the channel 5 programme, the nations favourite 90's songs and even though I have half of the songs downloaded already it just makes me smile to hear what people are saying about the songs and what I was doing when they were out.

1995, just left school so life felt like one endless party after another. Little memories that come back. I would love to just have a week back in the mid 90's.

Spanglybangles · 26/06/2021 10:46

@AllisoninWunderland thanks, I’ll check that out. Tbh I might prefer my teen to do (some of) the stuff we did in the 90’s rather than confining themselves to their bedroom conducting all of life, outside of school, on a mixture of phone and laptop. Social media and online friends are no substitute for getting out and living life and this last year has made it tougher than ever….mind you, at least I know where she is!!!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 26/06/2021 10:51

Definitely. I was so happy through the 90s. I was 11-21 and honestly think I couldn’t have had a better time. I really think that was living my best life!
The 2000s was where it all got real, got a career, got married, was pregnant by the end of the decade. Still all amazing but obviously not as carefree as the 90s.
The 2010s - a blur of child rearing, climbing the ladder at work, parents getting older and losing what it means to be me, a bit.
The 2020s... well so far obviously nothing has gone as planned!

Yes I loved Massive Attack and still do!

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 26/06/2021 10:52

Yanbu. Watched the Glastonbury 90s programme and was consumed with nostalgia. There seemed to be real sense of hope politically at the time, and pre social media, there wasn't such an obsession with looks -looking at the Glastonbury crowd, everyone seems so ordinary looking, unlike today's emphasis on perfection. I guess part of it is that I was in my 20s and responsibility free - compared to today with teen DC and ageing parents.

Itsallabitmeh · 26/06/2021 11:18

I could cry for the 90’s at times, I realise that’s pretty weird, I so loved that time, there was something so special about it.

thisonebreath · 26/06/2021 12:37

Oh I loved the 90s! 13-23. Went to university, went travelling. Had an absolute blast. Loved that Glastonbury programme last night.
