Matt Hancock affair

AIBU to be utterly peed off that another one of our Ministers - rather than devoting his time and effort to getting the country out of this mess - is busy carrying on with an aide (which he appointed at great expense to the tax payer) - aaaaaaag.

How awful for his wife and kids and her husband to have this in the public eye.

He knew her from university days and then employed her.

And then there is the continued double standards of expecting everyone else to socially distance.

Ugggh.

oreosfortea · 25/06/2021 14:24

@TheoMeo

definitely some people behind the scenes trying to take him down

Looks like it

Absolutely
Blossomtoes · 25/06/2021 14:25

@Applesonthelawn

It also bothers me a lot that there are pictures of his poor wife in the papers. She has every right to digest her grief in private. I see the aide's husband is afforded that courtesy at least, no pictures of him in sunglasses looking like he's going through hell.
I agree but if the nation’s press had congregated outside my house I probably wouldn’t have gone out.
TheoMeo · 25/06/2021 14:26

To be fair she doesn't look too bothered. I mean about the affair, not the press.

@TheMarzipanDildo

“I wonder just how many of the people screaming from the roof tops for his head have followed the rules as scrupulously as they're expecting him to?”

I suppose the difference is that he couldn’t follow his own rules.

Yes, exactly. It's quite reasonable for someone who hasn't observed social distancing guidance but also hasn't told anyone else to do it to be pissed off at the hypocrisy.

Very good point.
shinynewapple21 · 25/06/2021 14:30

But surely technically I'm still not allowed to hug my mum?

@StealthPolarBear

I understood that the rules about hugging were changed at the 17th May review. They said it wasn't recommended and provided instructions of how to do it safely ( ! ) but said it was no longer deemed not legal for hugging friends and relatives (I guess of the 6 you can meet indoors?)

Unless your mum, like mine, is in a care home and I can hug her but have to wear a mask.

The biggest issue here is not the affair. It’s the fact that a bug in a ministerial office wasn’t picked up. That’s a serious national security issue, and the press about the affair merely serves to distract from dealing with that.

Did she have her ring on this morning? I am fully convinced that her walk this morning was a planned event. Why would you think otherwise?

UrAWizHarry · 25/06/2021 14:34

FFS shagging someone in the workplace is enough to get fired from most places alone.

What the fuck does this cunt have to do to lose his job?

TheoMeo · 25/06/2021 14:36

There are 18,000 comments on this story in the Daily Mail and 2,000 in the Times.
Is this a record??
But Boris is not commenting Angry

@PatriarchyChickenOlympicWinner

I am very disappointed in myself to realise I would probably shag Matt Hancock for £1000 a day.
🤣

@Francescaisstressed

His poor wife and kids. I do think this coming out is weird, definitely some people behind the scenes trying to take him down. His own fault though!
Well he’s giving them plenty of material isn’t he?. What a sleaze.
TheoMeo · 25/06/2021 14:37

Concisely summed up.

It wasn’t a bug, it’s CCTV.
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/06/2021 14:40

I feel sorry for his wife* and family, but otherwise can’t get steamed up about it at all. e

Would the comments on here be any different if it was a prominent female politician doing the same, I wonder?

*I now have a yen to watch that TV drama ‘The Politician’s Wife’, IIRC with Juliet Stevenson. It was ages ago but v good - I wonder if it’s on the likes of Netflix?

Agreed. There’s far more to this than simply him bonking his assistant which is the tabloids wet dream.

This was leaked, questions must be asked about who, how and why. As I said before it publicly undermines him and essentially paints a picture of he’s not following the rules so why should you.

sergeilavrov · 25/06/2021 14:46

@Blossomtoes Do you have a source? I say bug as this is how it is being described by friends in the sector - both intelligence and national security think tanks. He shouldn’t have CCTV in his office.

Blossomtoes · 25/06/2021 14:48

The Politicians Wife is on All4. Right, that’s my evening viewing sorted. Thanks for reminding me @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER.

LakieLady · 25/06/2021 14:48

@Millymog

"and lord only knows how he managed to attract more than one woman."

well it is exactly the naievity of this which allows almost all married men to have affairs.

For many many women the one and only aphrodisiac they need is power and/or money. It really is totally irrelevant to many many women what the man looks like, what his marriage/family status is, whether it would be "wrong" or otherwise to get involved.
All entirely irrelevant. And the vast majority of men know this and at some point or another use it to their advantage.

I am not playing devils advocate or trying to be inflammatory when I say this.

Weird, isn't it?

For me, the thought of someone being a Tory is an instant turn-off. I've never so much as knowingly snogged a Tory, let alone shagged one. I can't imagine how much power a Tory would need for me to find them attractive.

Maybe the power to cure my arthritis might just do it. Even then I'd have to hold my nose while dtd.

Blossomtoes · 25/06/2021 14:49

He shouldn’t have CCTV in his office

Why on earth not?

It's a distraction and it worries me that I have not yet spotted what from. Maybe taking anger away from travel restrictions while football is ok? Nah. Seems too small
Something is somewhere in the news and we are all missing it because we are all looking at well timed "leak"
