To be flipping mad with the medical secretary to my consultant!

I have got more tests to go through tomorrow and really really not looking forward to them. Anyway 2 wks ago I had to send a urine sample off to hosp to make sure I didn't have a UTI as the Consultant will not carry out urodynamics with an infection.

I sent my sample off 2 wks ago, heard nothing so thought must be fine, last week I had a week from hell, wetting myself all over the place and at night too.

Yesterday had a phone call at work from medical secretary to say that she had just discovered that she had not sent out a prescription out to me as my sample was showing I had an infection!
So I had to dash down to Drs to pick up a prescription and start taking the ABs straight away. Now if I still have this infection I just know I am going to lose the plot. This is the last appointment the consultant has got before Christmas!!!!

She must of had the prescription since at least Thursday could even have been as early as last Tuesday! I am so cross! Didn't come across it until she was typing up some letters that were dictated to her. This is not the first time she has messed up! If she has messed up at least 3 times with me in 6 mths then goodness knows how many other people she has got it wrong too!

Go to the patient liason person - name and shame her... that is utterly hideous behaviour on her part

so sorry hope the consult goes ahead

helenhismadwife · 22/11/2007 08:43

thats appalling I would certainly make sure you say something to the consultant or whoever you see, and put it in writing to the Patient Liason. It sounds distressing enough without this hassle

eemie · 22/11/2007 09:21

If the prescription was given to her in the middle of a pile of notes/letters for typing, then it's not surprising that she didn't find it till she did the typing.

I wouldn't assume it's her fault. Sounds as if she phoned you as soon as she realised.

Sorry you have horrible symptoms, though. Hope you can still have your urodynamics.

Oh the poor secretary, i mean, come on , it must be hard having to sort out all those letters to all those people, ensure everything is logged on the computor, making sure all the prescriptions get sorted and sent out - give the woman a break, i mean, how would you like to do all that. Oh, hang on a minute, this is her JOB she gets PAID to do all of this!!!

She sounds completely incompetent, i would definately complain to the appropriate body and make sure you tell them that this is not the first time. Useless cow.

helenhismadwife · 22/11/2007 11:44

I see what you are seeing eemie but when I was in admin and given a pile of work I used to go through and prioritise and mymates perscription would probably have been quite high priority given the fact she couldnt have tests if she had a urine infection

kekouan · 22/11/2007 12:51

I hate it when hospitals say 'don't worry, we'll contact you if anything shows up in the sample'. I know how crap some of them can be, so I always ring up to make sure... don't care if they think I'm a pain in the arse!!

Well the plot thickens!

Apparently I did not have a urine infection after all. My urine sample showed I had E Coli present in my urine and so for extra protection and infection control the Nurse Specialist (who is an absolute sweetie)decided to prescribe the ABs!

So basically I have worried myself silly, rushed all over the place on Tuesday and it ended up I didn' have an infection after all! The Nurse Specialist said that she had a go at secretary about unnecessary panicking me and she remembered that it was not the first time she had told me incorrect information. (Cant imagine my Nurse having a go, didn't think she had a bad word to say about anybody)

So I did have the tests done today, still not happy with the outcome, but hey ho, 5 mths ago I couldn't pee at all!

Bloody woman!

Wish that DH could/would have come today, felt very alone (although I guess that made what I have told Nurse true about DH not coping with my situation!) Crumbs I hate him at times! (especially times like tonight - really needed a hug!) didn't get one thou!

Oh MMM

Virtual hug from me (not as good as a proper hug from your DH I know!)

mymatemarmite · 23/11/2007 00:10

But it will do, as I don't think DH will touch me at the mo incase I wet myself!
