DS had exertion related headaches for a couple of months following a concussion so look out for that.

Quartz2208 · 23/06/2021 08:21

Yes same SoupDragon. I think when it happens there is an absolute relief that it is just a mild concussion and that it isn't serious but it is I think fairly similar to the idea of just flu. It is still nasty and you still need to take time to rest and recover

Glad he's fine, PR.

What a great parent you are, awful when you don't get the support you expect but your instincts said stuff that and you did right by your child. Don't let anyone let your doubt you.

@vivainsomnia

Of course he is fine. If the loss of consciousness is only a second or so, and there are no other symptoms, there really is no need for A&E.

The two thing to look for is vomiting and drowsiness. Poor responsiveness.

There really was no need to take to A&E as things were. However, if you don't feel confident, it's better to seek help. So really, neither you nor your OH is wrong.

Are you a qualified health care professional, @vivainsomnia?

If so, you need to update your knowledge of assessment and management of head injury as a matter of urgency.

If not, shut up.

Nope. Any head injury with any loss of consciousness reported by a child at a time they weren't supervised should be followed up by a visit to a doctor immediately. Because it wasn't witnessed by a supervising adult therefore there's no way of knowing how long the child was unconscious for, obviously.
