To ask what age you stopped bathing with your child?

I probably only have 1-2 baths a month with DS (usually when I’ve made it deeper with lots of bubbles). He’s going to be 4 in a month and I feel like we’re coming to end of this chapter.

When did you stop?

I think DS was around 8 when he stopped. As soon as the word bath was mentioned he’d be stripping off ready to join you. In fact I still don’t get much privacy when I’m in the bath, both DH and DS 16 will drift into the bathroom for a chat or to ask me something.

xksismybestletter · 22/06/2021 21:40

My 9yo is stroppy she can't fit in. The 5 and 7 yos fight to get in still. It is not every bath so I go with it if I feel like it. It isn't all or nothing for me.

cadburyegg · 22/06/2021 21:43

I haven’t done it for ages and kids are 6 and 3, a bath is my “me” time, with bubble bath and very hot water! However I remember sharing a bath with my mum until I was a preteen

Ragwort · 22/06/2021 21:52

Never, can't see the appeal at all ... I love an evening bath ... on my own, scalding hot water, book and a glass of wine .... tepid water and a squirming child does not sound like a relaxing end to the evening ... each to their own.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/06/2021 21:53

Never did it. No reason other than I like a bath that would be far too hot for a wain.

FlyingCircus93 · 22/06/2021 21:57

I've never shared a bath nor heard of anyone sharing baths with their parents as children, or their own kids.

Which led me to read this initially as you only give your 4 Yr old a bath a few times a month 🤣

Macauley · 22/06/2021 21:57

I thought this was a lovely thing to do with my dd until she pooped in the bath. Never again!

LittleBearPad · 22/06/2021 21:59

Never! Baths are peaceful things.

Sunnyday321 · 22/06/2021 21:59

I'm 65 and my triplets are 34 ! it's quite a squeeze GrinGrin

ChunkyKitKat123 · 22/06/2021 22:00

I've never done this as I like my baths really hot (too hot for a baby) and I wouldn't bath with a toddler or older as I like my privacy. I guess it depends on how private you are? My mum never did this with me and growing up my family was.."prudish", I guess...so I've just never thought to do it. I'd say maybe 5ish would be the limit though?

Macncheeseballs · 22/06/2021 22:02

I remember being 5 and sharing a bath with a female relative, i absolutely hated it

georgarina · 22/06/2021 22:05

Never for me - my DC prefers lukewarm water, lots of toys and splashing. Not my idea of a perfect bath

traumatisednoodle · 22/06/2021 22:07

I think sometime between 2&3. She had vomited in the night and all over me, it was the only way to get us both clean.

LakeShoreD · 22/06/2021 22:10

I like a bath scolding hot, quiet and without any piss so that rules out the presence of babies or small children! I will shower with 4YO DD when needs must though, like after swimming.

Stichintime · 22/06/2021 22:10

Used to do it for pratical reasons, when they transitioned from the baby bath to the big bath. Once I was confident they were safe in the big bath they went in alone or with siblings.

ClarisseMcClellan · 22/06/2021 22:10

I can't think of a less relaxing way to get clean Grin

I wasn't really aware that this was something people do, do you all have special large baths?

Imfromhere · 22/06/2021 22:10

DD is 8. We dont share a bath but we have a separate bath and shower. Sunday nights she jumps in the bath and me the shower. Music on, sign along and have a chat.

Tbh I could do without the critique on my flabby bits Grin but it's nice bonding time. Hope we have a few years left doing it.

Xmasbaby11 · 22/06/2021 22:11

I still have a bath with my dd 7 and 9. They love it! We have a really big bath. It's obviously not the relaxing experience of a solo bath but it's a nice thing to do together and no doubt will come to an end soon.

PaperMonster · 22/06/2021 22:13

My daughter’s ten - she did get in the bath with me once last year, but I got out pretty quickly as there wasn’t enough room! Before that, I can’t remember when she gave up sharing a bath with me!

Landlubber2019 · 22/06/2021 22:15

My 12 yr old will still get in with me given the opportunity....

Bbq1 · 22/06/2021 22:16

I loved Bath time with ds and playing and splashing with him when he was a baby, then up until he was about age 8 or 9 I would sit on the toilet lid and chat to him as he liked the company! Much as I love him, I have never seen the appeal or even reason for sharing a bath. You're both basically washing in each others dirty water and it must be a squash... I can't even fathom why anybody would need to share a SHOWER with their child. Similarly, I can't imagine why anybody would want to share a bath with their partner... Again, I love my dh very much but we have never bathed together. Why would we want to? A bath is for relaxing and washing yourself so why fight for space and clean water with your oh?!

Frankola · 22/06/2021 22:17

My DD is 4 and I still bathe with her.

I love the time we get doing this.

I'll stop when she decides to..

BabyofMine · 22/06/2021 22:21

I honestly had no idea people really did this and I don’t think I’ve EVER had a bath with mine. But my bath is fairly small so it would be a bit difficult.

MizMoonshine · 22/06/2021 22:24

This was one day after his 9th birthday 😂

Honestly my kid would have me in the bath with him everyday for company. But I stopped actually bathing with him when he was around 2.

From time to time I will jump in fully clothed the same way I do into his paddling pool.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 22/06/2021 22:26

@ClarisseMcClellan

I can't think of a less relaxing way to get clean Grin

I wasn't really aware that this was something people do, do you all have special large baths?

we do, and it's a double ended bath so no taps sticking in your back.

for us it really took off when DS1 was old enough to sit unsupported.
it was soo much easier to get in the bath with him then bending over and breaking my back or kneeling and hurting my knees, arms & back (especially when pg).

then it sort of carried on with all of them. and after a certain age they want to get in the bath with you. we all liked it so why not?
everyone has a quick shower before getting out so actually getting clean is not a problem.

I agree, it's not relaxing if that's your sole aim. but it's quite fun. and I have had one of the best chats with them while in bath: why do we shiver, would you rather...., if you had to pick 3 animals to be your best friends what would you pick & why, why do things break down, make the worst dinner, what's a heart surgery etc (DS5 watched a bit of Grey"s Anatomy and had soooo many questions).

oh and it was particularly lovely to have baths when pg & the older kids could see baby kicking. they'd sometimes try to predict where the next kick would be (the finger pointing versio of pin the tail on the donkey🤣).
ah, great stuff
