Can I take 14 month old in a hot tub?

We’re glamping this week and there’s a hot tub. If it’s 37 degrees, can we take 14 month old DS in there? I wasn’t sure what the rules are after they turn one, if it’s bath temperature, sorry if it’s dumb!

No!

Moonface123 · 21/06/2021 17:46

Hot tubs are full of bacteria, so l wouldnt.

Swallowridge · 21/06/2021 17:48

No - too many chemicals and or bacteria.

HOkieCOkie · 21/06/2021 17:48

No it’s not good for your kidneys if your under 12 I believe. My friends mum had a kidney transplant and she can’t go in them at all anymore.

squishyegg · 21/06/2021 17:49

We have a hot tub and my son was in it before that age 😂 he's 9 now and perfectly fine

HOkieCOkie · 21/06/2021 17:50

@squishyegg it’s like anything isn’t it. The risks are small but they are there or there wouldn’t be warnings.

LittleLadyCece · 21/06/2021 17:51

I wouldnt personally

LaurieFairyCake · 21/06/2021 17:51

All the ones in hotels say no under 11's

lavenderandwisteria · 21/06/2021 17:53

We take our six month old in ours but it isn’t hot-hot - around 37 degrees. I would think you would be fine.

cheesecrackerz · 21/06/2021 17:54

Yuk, I wouldn't

lastqueenofscotland · 21/06/2021 17:56

No.
And yet again mumsnet fails to understand anecdote does not = evidence.

Wombat24 · 21/06/2021 17:56

It's also to do with the temperature not dropping, so you can raise your body temp with them and it can affect kids more.

Harvey3 · 21/06/2021 17:57

No, wouldn't risk it either.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 21/06/2021 17:58

Why would you want to take a 14 month old into a hot tub!!?!?!?

AnUnoriginalUsername · 21/06/2021 18:00

If its 37 degrees I don't understand why not, surely no different to being in a swimming pool r.e chemicals?

lavenderandwisteria · 21/06/2021 18:02

Because it’s a hot tub. MN hate them.

Leftphalange · 21/06/2021 18:09

I don't hate them but I still wouldn't put a child that age in one!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/06/2021 18:12

yes, I would.
but no alcohol for him!

FAQs · 21/06/2021 18:13

A quick google seems to suggest it’s not suitable for children under 5 due to the temp and chemicals, they can’t regulate their temp as adults and therefore potential to overheat.

TenShortStories · 21/06/2021 18:13

Does the glamping site not have any rules saying no children in the hot tub?

They can get pretty manky (you have no idea how well it's been cleaned and looked after, unlike one at your own home) so I'd be worried about my child slurping the water, but chances are they'd ultimately be fine even if they did. I wouldn't want to risk a string of explosive nappies whilst glamping Envy

Littlebutload · 21/06/2021 18:14

I don't see why not, 37 degrees isn't hot hot. Our health service in Ireland recommends bathing babies at 36 degrees so it isn't that much different. Chemicals are the same as a swimming pool surely

cocoloco987 · 21/06/2021 18:15

All the ones in hotels say no under 11's

Is that not to allow adults to use it in peace? Of course a toddler can use it - turn it down to 36.5 if you're worried

Dillydollydingdong · 21/06/2021 18:24

Won't he wee in it?

Hallyup6 · 21/06/2021 18:25

Over 14s the last place I went, so definitely not. I'm not even sure I could trust myself to hold a toddler considering I can't keep my own butt on the seat without floating upwards.

Whammyyammy · 21/06/2021 18:28

Ewwww... poor child
