Can I take 14 month old in a hot tub?

We’re glamping this week and there’s a hot tub. If it’s 37 degrees, can we take 14 month old DS in there? I wasn’t sure what the rules are after they turn one, if it’s bath temperature, sorry if it’s dumb!

How are you planning on stopping your baby from pissing in it?

Swim nappies I'd assume - same as any pool type thing that isn't your own bath tub

Anuthanamechange · 21/06/2021 19:19

We’ve returned from a holiday recently where we had a private hot tub, it’s drained and cleaned between rentals. The rules said no under 6 due to the fact they can’t regulate their body temp. We put our 20 month in once for less than 5 mins so he could have a quick splash with his 6 year old sibling. We knew it was against the rules, but as it was so quickly and literally a dip he went in. I wouldn’t let him in any longer than that though.

In other countries people take kids into hot tubs and saunas, I even heard some women give birth in saunas in the far north. Their kids are just fine. Communal ones are a no due to hygiene, no one wants a kid in a nappy!

BastardMonkfish · 21/06/2021 19:20

@L0bstersLass to be fair whats to stop anybody from pissing in any hot tub? You get in a hot tub and you have to accept the risk of piss.

willstarttomorrow · 21/06/2021 19:22

He will probably come to no harm at all if properly supervised and not left to slow cook for hours and afterwards is not left to freeze and has no contradictory underlying health issues etc. It is about what level of risk you are comfortable with as a parent. Obviously there are those parents who are incredibly anxious about EVERY LITTLE THING and take anything they read online/in baby books as gospel. Then there are most parents who are able to make judgements based on the situation.

In the olden days pre-covid we travelled a lot in Europe and most countries are far more relaxed re children being in hot tubs/saunas (not tiny ones in the latter) and thermal pools. As others have stated, rules in the UK are more around allowing adults to use facilities uninterrupted by pesky kids. I have been to hotels abroad with an allocated children's hot tub and parents decide if it is suitable for their child.

Wow, some very judgemental comments on here. OP is just asking for some advice, no need to pile on.

I wasn’t sure either OP, but I’ve seen some photos of pretty nasty rashes on kids after being in a hot tub so decided not to let DD in on our holiday. I’m sure if they’re well cleaned and maintained the risk is probably low but just didn’t seem worth it to me.

SuperstoreFan · 21/06/2021 19:23

Wow, Mumsnet really hates hot tubs.

Who knew.

PrincessesRUs · 21/06/2021 19:23

I used to take my 6month old into the jacuzzi at the pool her swimming lesson was in - she loved it!

lljkk · 21/06/2021 19:25

Mine would & did go in jacuzzis at about that temp.

I grew up with outdoor hot tubs (1970s-80s). I find MN attitudes strange.

And asked whether I'd prefer baby piss or a full grown adults, I know what I'd choose.

caringcarer · 21/06/2021 19:33

No a terrible idea. At spa I use no under 14 allowed in.

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 21/06/2021 19:35

HSE guidance is the children under 4 shouldn’t use hot tubs/spas.

Nope. No way.

Myglueattack · 21/06/2021 19:49

You're asking in the wrong place here.
Sure a little dip of his toes for a few minutes will be fine.

zebrapig · 21/06/2021 20:02

We've taken ours in hot tubs since they were around 12 months. Only for brief periods at that age and showering them off afterwards and they've always enjoyed it. They both love them now (6 and 3) and will happily spend as long as you'll let them playing in them. They treat it like a giant bath!

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/06/2021 20:02

but you can't convince stupid.🤷‍♀️
😂.
Yes dear. Whatever you say...

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 21/06/2021 20:06

No

TheVolturi · 21/06/2021 20:06

You can guarantee that the ones at a glamping pod are used as a substitute for a shower, and I bet the water is not changed every time someone vacates. I wouldn't for that reason. But I'd take them in one at home if we had one.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/06/2021 20:06

Hold on, Isn't that the low, slow, cooking temperature for the ideal soft boiled egg?

StrawBeretMoose · 21/06/2021 20:07

@Dillydollydingdong

Won't he wee in it?
I'm sure it wouldn't be the first wee in the hot tub EnvyGrin

I wouldn't but I think it's okay to ask the question.

That depends - can you cook an egg slowly by popping it under your arm pit and will it cook a bit quicker if you're running a fever?

Back to the tub. No, I can't think it would be the relaxing experience you're hoping for OP.

DumplingsAndStew · 21/06/2021 20:18

@diddlediddle

We've taken our child younger than that in a hot tub. We kept her body mostly out of the water

Can't you just flush her head down the toilet like a normal person? 😂

JackieTheFart · 21/06/2021 20:20

Honestly if it’s not too hot, then how different are they from a pool in bacteria and chemical terms?!

Darbs76 · 21/06/2021 20:21

The advice is no, it’s not the same as a swimming pool as no pool is that hot. I have one at home and I feel really thirsty when I get out so if you do take him in make sure he has access to water
