It's all kicking off in the comments.

Do you agree with the pub's decision?

@MissDollyMix

On the one hand I wouldn't be visiting, with or without my children. It says to me (rightly or wrongly) that it's a stuck up, unfriendly establishment. In general, I hate how un-child friendly this country is, and there's definitely a tendency for the child-haters to stick the boot in.
However, on the other hand, it's their pub and their right to do what they want. I do have some sympathy, as it's really annoying when there are badly behaved families on other tables, children running around etc Parents should not let that happen. Children should be taught how to behave when out in public.

I don't know where you are, but in the South East there are so-many "family friendly" pubs with amazing play areas, climbing frames, tree houses, football goal posts, inflatable castles and what have you,

there's nothing remotely un-child friendly!

Nothing wrong with an adult only pub for a change.
Even PARENTS enjoy a bit of adult time,

Children and alcohol don't mix.

Don't worry - I only let DS drink juice when he's in the pub.

How is it stuck up?!

Why is it stuck-up not to want trouble makers in their establishment? I am pleasantly surprised at the degree of support on MN for their action.

All the while dogs are given the run of the pub and cats roam freely over the bar and dining tables

as long as it's well advertised, some people will love that, others will stay well away.

If they manage to run a business, good for them.

As long as there are pubs that allow kids I think this is fine. Some people prefer to have adult time and some want a big slide next to the seating areas.

Pubs and bars shouldn't be for kids- restaurants fine but I don't want to listen to some brat child screaming the place down while having a drink with friends.

Landlady is miserable and hates children. Might book for my 11 year olds next birthday party and invite all his friends…

It’s simple- they should have asked the family in question to leave. If it was a group of drunk adults making a scene surely that would be solution. Or would she ban drinking instead…?!

They are a business - they can do what they like. I'm sure it will become a more popular place for other people to eat if they know there won't be young children running around. There are plenty of family type pubs or restaurants people can choose to go to with younger children.

We were in a National Trust property yesterday for lunch, sitting outside. Lovely and calm place apart from 2 children (2-3 years old) running riot, shouting and screaming. What is wrong with some parents??

Hello, there.

Parents who bring their children into pubs quite frankly shouldn't have children. Introducing them to such a horrible environment with alcohol, drugs and adultery is absurd.

Amen.

Hello there.

What a completely batshit post.

What if the child identifies as a fifty year old?

I was thinking that the other day. If men can identify as women just like that, what's to stop me identifying as older than I am and getting an OAP discount?

Fabulous - if I was near by them I'd be going.

I've had too many meals out ruined by out of control small children. Too many parents can't/won't teach their children to behave appropriately.

I was in one cafe with a family with just crawling twins. The mother put them down to crawl around saying loudly "feral time". It was a small floor space with waiting staff carrying hot drinks and food around ( highly dangerous) and one of the babies spent a happy few minutes wrecking the shelves holding speciality teas.

Not the children's fault, they were too young but those parents are bringing them up to be proper little nightmares in a couple of years time.

But this is what I'm saying, why did the cafe staff let this go on?? A firm word saying the children can't be crawling around for health and safety reasons, if the family then kicked off, ask them to leave.

If you don't know how to remove a bad customer from your establishment, you should not be in this business.

Everyone pointing out that children behave better on the continent, this is not unrelated to the fact that managers there will have no problem telling you to get the fuck out.

Yep I completely agree with the pub. When mine were small we only went to pubs that openly welcome families. That's where we taught them to behave and eat nicely when we were out. Where they learnt to wait patiently for their food without creating a fuss. And at home obviously Didn't dream of taking them to a pub or restaurant that didn't cater for kids. Why ruin everyone else meal out? Some adults just can't bear to miss out on anything when they have children and insist on dragging the kids everywhere just so they can continue to feel like their lives haven't changed.

A shame for the families with well behaved children but sounds like this was quite extreme so you can't blame them really. Unfortunately it's not just children that behave badly though. In that position I might have started barring individuals instead as the adults could come back and be equally as obnoxious

Fair enough. If they don't want families to eat there it's up to them, they can organise their business how they wish.

There is a large demand for families with young children to eat out in pubs though, and if this one doesn't want to serve them then plenty more will.

Same with dogs. Dog unfriendly places can get in the sea. Let's see if there are there in 12 months' time.

I wish pubs would be as quick to ban groups of drunken men misbehaving. They've caused me loads more problems than children ever have.

Good on them - I have 3 Young children and wouldn't dream of taking them to a pub to eat

Really? Some have soft plays and out door play equipment. Plenty of family friendly pubs around. Kids shouldn't just be confined to McDonald's or Frankie and bennys. Some like decent food too!

They should just deal with the rowdy family there an then.

So no, don't agree with it, it just smacks of poor management who should, as management of a licensed venue, be able to robustly handle drunk troublemakers, let alone a dick head family who can't control their own dc.

However, I do have sympathy with the pub in the current conditions with the impact on their industry.

cocoloco987 · 21/06/2021 13:20

But if she was the type to run around, be noisy and generally be a pest we would stick to places like Giraffe where it's expected.

Fwiw I'd be furious if my dc tried to run around in Giraffe and annoyed if other kids were. It's not expected anywhere surely except the play or party area of a premises?!

Probably because the young minimum wage employees didn't want the likely mouthful of abuse they would get from such entitled parents.

This pub hasn't allowed children for over a year. They were in the local news ages ago.
Good for them I say! It's nice to have a pub to go to where there are no screaming kids.
They allow dogs😄 and are totally gluten free. Win win!

How do they deal with rowdy drunken middle aged men, running around being noisy and making a nuisance of themselves? Chuck them out and bar individuals, or bar all middle aged men? "I'm sorry but you appear to be male and over 40." Can you imagine?
