Blue hair

I know a lot of people mid forties dyeing their hair blue or pink, I don’t get it. Why? It looks awful growing out and their natural colour is better.

@Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese

The only problem I have with blue hair is it can be a complete nightmare to get rid of. Bar the root growth it took me almost 6 months from last colour to get gone, and even then I had to go another colour rather than the pastel purple I wanted...
See my comment above Grin

Shaving solved the problem!

AdjustableAssholeSettings · 21/06/2021 17:10

I don't give a shit about pink, red, purple, green orange or yellow. But if they had blue hair I'd probably avoid for fear of not guessing their pronoun of the day and causing offence.

This is the only downside to blue, I managed to go over the top of a super washed out bluey green with a pink which neutralised it quite nicely.
TheDevils · 21/06/2021 17:59

Honestly if you’re deciding who to trust professionally based on the style and colour of their hair it probably says more about you than them.

This 100%.

I have been judged for having platinum blonde hair (occasionally a bit lilac if I used a lot of purple shampoo) for years. It ridiculous..... apparently I look more like a hairdresser or beauty therapist rather than a university academic 🙄

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 21/06/2021 18:03

The blue/ pink hair thing has been going on for a couple of years op. Do you live under a rock?

boogiewithasuitcase · 21/06/2021 18:05

There are even a few female MPs with pink hair etc. Their hair colour doesn't affect their ability to do their job!

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 21/06/2021 18:05

I just think dyeing your hair bright colours says ‘I need a lot of attention

Are you on drugs? Hmm

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 21/06/2021 19:48

Completely @Blueballinthegarden I went from cobalt blue to barbie pink because it just wouldn't go away 🤦‍♀️luckily like you it neutralised and went a lovely silver I will never recreate sadly.

honeybuns007 · 21/06/2021 20:23

I know or have seen a shit ton of doctors, dentists, lawyer, teachers, accountants with multiple ear piercings and tattoos. Not across their face but arms, legs, backs

DrCoconut · 22/06/2021 16:35

My GP was wearing a tracksuit and trainers at today's appointment. He still dealt with the matter I'd gone about.

Sillawithans · 22/06/2021 16:39

Since I dyed my hair blonde, I've been getting loads of attention Grin

whatisforteamum · 22/06/2021 17:17

I've got blonde hair with the lower part magenta.
I've had lots of compliments and I'm almost 55.
Then again I'm probably an attention seeking flaky bake.🤣

thetemptationofchocolate · 22/06/2021 17:35

I've been dyeing mine different colours during the pandemic. It cheers me up. However I am a long way past my mid-40s and not a professional, so I guess I am safe from the OP's judgement.

LST · 22/06/2021 18:45

I'm having my multicoloured dread extensions fitted tomorrow. I cannot bloody wait!

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/06/2021 18:47

I always wanted blue heir but I’ve yet to see a woman post 40 who doesn’t look better with natural coloured hair. Bright colours are ageing. I don’t know why but they are.

Frownette · 22/06/2021 18:50

Actually you did influence me a bit OP. I had to choose someone's next hair colour and instead of saying my complicated wants I just said electric blue.

It's ok though, he's not your manager.

EmeraldShamrock · 22/06/2021 18:54

Why not.
If they're happy to add a splash of colour brighten their hair, what is the harm.

I had long dark hair when I was 40. Nobody ever commented on it.

I get at least 3 compliments A DAY from total strangers on my purple hair. And by the hairdressers whenever I take my daughter for a haircut.

cardibach · 22/06/2021 18:58

@MandalaYogaTapestry

OP I would feel the same about professionals with blue/pink hair. My first impression would be dubious, I couldn't take them seriously. That's why probably there are so few (if any) so such perception proves valid.
No. It shows that people who would like blue hair are aware of the stupid prejudices of busy bodies, or that their employers are stupidly judgemental.

Some of us don’t see being our age as a negative...we aren’t all obsessed with looking ‘youthful’ (whatever that means).
ThinWomansBrain · 22/06/2021 19:03

I don’t know many professionals with blue hair.

I don't know many people with blue hair full stop.
I'm not prejudiced enough to think that someone having blue hair is any less capable of doing their job. Unless maybe a hairdresser if the hair was blue AND in terrible condition - but any colour AND terrible condition would probably put me off.

Bluesheep8 · 22/06/2021 20:58

I was just going to say "....and?..." but I'm intrigued to know how you've seen the arms, legs and backs of all these people. Hang on, are you a tattoo artist? Smile

Frownette · 23/06/2021 00:22

I don't usually comment on people's hair but I saw a lady about 2 years ago probably in her sixties who had white hair but had coloured the ends lilac. It looked fantastic and I told her so.

Carbara · 23/06/2021 00:30

OP, instead of seeking attention by making this thread, why not simply dye your hair? Guaranteed attention (except….no one gives a shit) and you’ll get to look a bit less basic. Win/win!

Carbara · 23/06/2021 00:33

(N.B. Being seen as a ‘professional’ wage slave could not be less appealing. Pay me to have beige/poo coloured hair and I’ll pretend to care about your pointless opinion for ten entire seconds)
