To wonder if this Zara model is a healthy size?

Most models are tall and slim but something just made me stop and look at these pictures for longer, wondering.

Is it just photoshop?

To wonder if this Zara model is a healthy size?

Stop judging other women on their size.

Anyone who thinks those models are a healthy weight are delusional. 99%of models are only underweight because they are required to be to get work. If these women really are this weight then it should be pointed out that its unhealthy and not something to aspire to. If the pictures have been altered that should also be questioned and stopped. Ots not judging the women, it's judging the industry that makes women feel they have to look like that when naturally that's not what most people should look like. Stop being so naive and defensive.

In the first picture the model has a visible lack of muscle as well as fat, the second picture looks ok- the model, while slender, has well defined muscles and looks healthy.

It doesn't matter that the model might be just naturally this slim- it's unachievable for almost everyone and for most women this would be unnaturally slim and unhealthy and an undernourished state. Equally i disagree with using obese models and celebrating their 'curves'. Companies like Zara have a responsibility to promote a healthy state and that means a body which falls within the accepted healthy weight range for the average woman.

"But would you agree that when models this thin are used, it promotes this level of thinness as aspirational? That's what worries me given the anorexia risk, and it's a whole different kettle of fish imho to the judgement you face, which I do agree you shouldn't."

Well, according to that logical we shouldn't have plus size models either then.
I thought that genuinely underweight wasn't allowed any more anyway whereas overweight models are allowed.

A bit on the slim side but however photographs can and are digitally altered. So if this is true to scale - the model is very slim but not that slim by modelling standards. However it is perhaps preferable to start slim
at a younger age as weight and size changes considerably over time for the worst unless genetically fortunate and eating and exercising appropriately.

But would you agree that when models this thin are used, it promotes this level of thinness as aspirational?

Teenage girls today are taking weight gain pills and getting BBLs. Skinny is mocked, not lauded, as this thread shows with posters using words like 'ill/unhealthy'. In school its 'flat chest/no ass/boy/tranny' etc.

Erasing thin women isn't diversity. Nobody knows if she is underweight or not from that picture. She's likely tall with a naturally low BM.

Not really , because the trend for models like this to be aspirational is long long gone.

Young girls take their cues from SM now . So called influencers, Instagram,Youtube, tiktok etc. None of those "models" look like the woman in the picture and there's rarely the possibility of it all being natural. Fake this, fake that, implants, surgery etc.

I find that a lot more worrying at the moment.

She looks like she probably has Marfans syndrome (if the disproportionate length of her hands and fingers in comparison to her wrists aren’t photoshopped), other markers are flat feet, long face and small jaw along with being very tall & skinny - if so it’s almost impossible to gain weight & comes with some horrendous potential health issues, but is a genetic condition not a choice.

As she’s also very beautiful she’s found a career in which the body shape of Marfans is advantageous, but it’s not anything to aspire to. Most people with the condition don’t want to be that thin, but also don’t like being judged or having assumptions about eating disorders made about them.

I would say that is the natural body shape(very tall with long limbs and and ankles and wrists the same width as thighs and biceps) for a very very small proportion of the population, maybe 5% of people....and yet every other person on here either looks like this, and eats like a horse, or has a relative that does...Confused

I have a condition called Marfanoid Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. One aspect of the many aspects it involves is that my arms and legs are way out of proportion to my body. My neck is long. My elbows and knees are knobbly (sounds gorgeous I know). I look a bit mantis-like and was bullied at school. I was called gorilla arms and giraffe (due to my long neck). My DM was the same build. The second models limbs look a bit like she could have a similar thing going on. Or the pic could be photoshopped. The first model looks super thin which may be natural for her but i agree this sort of thinness is dangerous for those who aren’t supposed to look this slender to aspire to.

Why is fat shaming bad but this is okay?

Oh and there have been loads of thread on super plus sized models and how unhealthy it is, and the fact it shouldn't be normalised. The difference is super plus size has only just begun to make an appearance, super super skinny is very normalised and has been for a very long time.

She is thin, not slim. She has arms that are the size of a child's. Whether they are really that thin or have been photoshopped, it is irresponsible of any company to show that as an ideal body. It's not.

People saying 'some people are just naturally this thin' ....
Sorry, but no.

Ask anyone in the modeling business - it's very, very hard work to stay this thin (and remember, the camera puts weight on you). No shame, but it's disingenuous to claim otherwise.

The point is not that some people are naturally this thin. The point is why a fashion brand thinks this is a good look for a model.

StileAmtico · 20/06/2021 22:51

pinuporc. I agree it’s far from the norm so it is surprising that so many on here have a similar build. I’m not tall but look taller than my height (if that makes sense) due to a rare genetic condition I have which causes elongated limbs which are out of proportion with the rest of the body - especially the arms.

Tbh she looks too thin my DS is Peter crouch thin, as was I. I hated being that thin yet somehow it is portrayed as the ideal. Yet most people aren't. O
However so many models are hyper thin it skews normality. Fine have a few thin models (and plus size) but err on BMI within the healthy range. In reality very few are.

I'm 5'11.5 and look like this. When you're tall, weight is distributed differently. Just like some people who eat way less/healthier than me and still put on weight. What's so unbelievable, people have different weight dispositions.

Wow the model in the first photo has a dangerously low BMI.
I say that as someone who has always had a naturally very low BMI so I’ve got used to negative comments from people .
Honestly don’t think that companies should be employing people who look ill.
I weighed 7.5 stone until I was in my mid twenties despite eating huge amounts and drinking like a fish . My legs and arms always looked healthy though. It was my body that was very bony but I was able to hide that with clothes . I envied my friend who was a curvy sized 12 . I’ve gained a little bit over the years and v happy with how I look . My dds were shocked with how thin I was in photos and find it hard to believe that I would eat huge meals and snack on donuts etc .
When I went to uni , the doctor asked if I had an eating disorder . Some people really can be very thin without trying but sadly there are so many EDs in young ( and not so young ) men and women .
Sadly not being overweight has failed to protect me from stuff like high blood pressure as I have a severe form of it

@Changechangychange

That’s photoshop.

In picture one, nobody has a thigh as thin as their ankle. Even very thin people. The femur bone is wider than the tib/fib.

In picture two, nobody’s upper arm is 1.5 times the length of their forearm. The upper arm is longer, but the ratio is more like 1:1.2.

I’m sure she’s thin, but she looks “wrong” to people’s eyes (and OP is reading that as “ill”) because the picture has been altered.

This! The bones don't add up.

This is unlikely to be natural and it is damaging. Why isn’t photoshop ever used to make people appear fatter? Why can’t we just have normal photos if the average sized person? People on here saying this is their shape - most women I see are not this shape. It’s concerning.

Summersun2020 · 20/06/2021 22:59

She is just slim, appears healthy to me. We have a skewed view of what a normal size is nowadays due to widespread obesity. The lower end of my healthy BMI is 8st 2lbs. I would look very slim at this weight but still be within the healthy range.

Well not fatter, but it's often used to increase breast, thigh and butt size at the moment as that's the "fashion".

This.
This perfectly natural phenomenon doesn't seem to transfer to real life.
