India Knight. To be shocked by the lack of self awareness.

I feel sad writing this as I have enjoyed her writing at times. I have been quite disturbed by recent developments but do still read The Times as I do still value their overall output ( their ongoing campaign on behalf of those impacted by the cladding scandal is excellent )so do still scan her articles. Today was a discussion of veganism etc. which did make some interesting points but right in the middle was the following statement
‘ I don’t much believe in hypocrisy, which is often the stupid person’s way of oversimplifying complicated and nuanced human choices’
The fact that it was written, then the fact that it wasn’t picked up by editors is astounding.
I think her position is untenable.

If you can afford private school, you can afford to life near a decent state school. Unless of course your political career depends on you living in a particular place.

Anyway, that's besides the point. Knight is a paedophile apologist who has chosen to live with a nonce rather than her daughter.

She isn't fit to write a column in CrappyTown on Sea Daily, no matter about the Sunday Times

bunnybutts · 20/06/2021 21:03

@DulseSeaweed

Can't stand the woman or anything she writes now. I'm not sure I follow the point she's attempting to make there but am unsurprised she continues merrily publishing drivel whilst her child lives elsewhere so she can continue a relationship with a paedophile.
Does her child really live elsewhere?! How could a mother choose a paedophile over her child FFS.

None of us live a perfect life but we should probably try not to hold others to standards we are not willing to live by ourselves and at the very least be honest when there is a mismatch ( hypocrisy).
It’s not reductive. It’s trying to live with basic standards, including integrity.[/quote]
Exactly. That is integrity in a nutshell. There has to be congruance between what you say you believe and what choices you make.

People can do what they like of course, they are free to lack integrity and there are few consequences apart from some judgement, which can be easily dismissed as stupid people not understanding the nuances! If people they want to utilise mental gymnastics to justify giving their dc a better education than your children get to have, it's easily done. Everything can be rationalised.

Tacono1 · 20/06/2021 21:05

@Pumperthepumper
You appear to be the outlier here. I sent my children to private school. It’s something I hadn’t thought about before but absolutely, their welfare came first. However if I was then calling for the abolition of private schools I would have to take a good hard look at myself in the mirror. Surely it’s not hard to understand that others find themselves in similar positions. Integrity comes with self reflection.

@bunnybutts yes of course her child lives elsewhere. She's not allowed to have her child living with her because she lives with a paedophile

O’Hagan has no wish to comment on that case in print, though he mentions that his and Knight’s daughter, Nell, 16, is living here with him and Milligan.)

Her ex husband commented in an interview when asked about the Eric Joyce situation last year that their daughter lives with him.

Labradooodle · 20/06/2021 21:09

She has a dd of only 16, omg

Pumperthepumper · 20/06/2021 21:09

@Labradooodle you seem to be struggling to answer why your integrity is worth more than your children in the situation I described.

I am the outlier, as I said earlier, too many people are too quick to shout hypocrisy without thinking about it. That’s why it’s reductive and boring, as I said.

Why would you have to look hard in the mirror if you had to choose between your own principles and your children’s future?

@TheoMeo

This is pretty spiteful stuff imv. She might not be your favourite journo but it was her DH who looked at porn not her. But it seems, as always, the wife has to have her life destroyed before 'the holier than thou' are happy. I'm pretty sure millions of British men have looked at child porn - but seems their wives, mothers, any other female who knows them are as evil, misogyny again.
by staying with him she's tacitly condoning his crimes

Is that you India?

She chose her sick fuck partner over her disabled daughter. She's not deserving of any respect

User27aw · 20/06/2021 21:16

Im pretty sure that millions of men have NOT looked at 'child porn' as you call it. And its not child porn it images of children being sexually abused. It wasnt her fault that he did it but by staying with him she is condoning it.

TheoMeo · 20/06/2021 21:16

You say.
I doubt she sees it that way.
And her DD - who knows what happened there - do you know her and her ex personally - or her DD.

I've no truck with child porn but it wasn't IK who had anything to do with it. LIke I suggested do you think every mother, sister, wife of a porn viewing man should have their lives destroyed?

godmum56 · 20/06/2021 21:17

I didn't know who she was so i googled ...mad as a box....no several thousand....boxes of frogs.

ScribblyBaller · 20/06/2021 21:18

I doubt she sees it that way.

Oh undoubtedly. Or else she wouldn't be able to justify to herself (or her friends) her decision to stay with a convicted paedophile. People tell themselves all sort of comforting lies.

Quite.

I never mentioned her daughter.

I think staying with and supporting a man who viewed the worst categories of child abuse images should be condemned. As a mother, I can’t even contemplate making the choice to stay with a man who had behaved this way. Some people will tie themselves in knots to defend the indefensible.

She lives with and supports a pedophile. She is a vile, loathsome disgrace. Nothing she says has any value.

TheoMeo · 20/06/2021 21:22

From wiki
' In May 2021, German police said that they had dismantled one of the world's biggest child pornography networks on the dark web, with over 400,000 registered users'
That's just one.

OverTheRubicon · 20/06/2021 21:23

@Mycatismadeofstringcheese

would an MP who campaigns for the abolition of private education be a hypocrite if they were at the same time sending their own children to a private school? I would say no, or not necessarily, but I bet 99% of people would say yes, and I would say that in doing so they are displaying a lack of critical thinking skills

Can you explain that more? What’s the nuance that means it isn’t hypocritical?

Actually I do agree with that. It's entirely possibly to believe that the private school system is unfair and abolished, but also that as a parent your job is to set your DCs up for life as best as possible. On that basis, you could vote for a party that wants to abolish private education - but at the same time send your kids private, on the basis that if 10% of kids are going to be significantly advantaged, you should try to have your children be among them (especially as the overall standard of state schools might improve with abolition of privates).

Personally I can't afford private anyway so it's a purely academic issue, but I can see it.

You seem to be struggling to understand that if you're looking for votes, you can't give your children an education you're denying voters' children.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 20/06/2021 21:26

Why must everything be bland and non goady? She can write what she likes, others can disagree.

Pumperthepumper · 20/06/2021 21:26

@Labradooodle do you believe poor children deserve a decent education?
