To think this house is worth it and London won't crash?

After searching for a long time we have found a house in an area that both DH and I like. DH thinks we should wait and see if the prices drop in London. Flats seem to have dropped and he's hoping houses follow. Who do you think is right?

@Stichintime We aren't British. My friend was talking about this website having good property advice so here I am! We don't have a financial advisor. I'm not sure why I'd need one really? We put into pensions as much as we can but that's all done through work schemes. This area of London appeals because we have young children and the state schools are meant to be good.

Lovely houses.
What way do the back gardens face ?

maddening · 18/06/2021 19:58

Flats have decreased in value for a reason, people hated living in them in the pandemic and often are.in flats in London as their job is based there but cannot afford houses, and now wfh is becoming a reality they can move out to houses.

Halliabaloo · 18/06/2021 19:59

Both lovely houses but I agree the first is nicer. I think go for it!

Ickythefirebobby · 18/06/2021 19:59

Gorgeous house. Who the heck has a hanging rope in a children’s bedroom though😮

IrishBloodLondonHeart · 18/06/2021 20:00

I used to live in muswell hill - people will be over paying to secure houses so no way the prices will drop.

Summerfun54321 · 18/06/2021 20:01

I’d definitely pay that for that house in that area (if I still lived in London and had the money!). Don’t faff around asking, if you like it and can afford it then put an offer in otherwise you’ll miss out.

OccaChocca · 18/06/2021 20:01

I wouldn't wait for prices to drop because they won't. They will keep climbing even when you think they can't go any higher.

Come out of London slightly and you'll get stables for the pony....... Wink

kindlekeeper · 18/06/2021 20:02

Lovely houses. Second has scope to extend into the already existing cellar and bigger foot print. We are SW London and prices have shot up as we have green space in abundance, similar I would imagine.

highlighteryellow · 18/06/2021 20:04

I don't know the market in Muswell Hill very well but in principle I think you are right. And if you've done your research and it's not overpriced compared to others on the market in that area, you should buy the house.

So are you first time buyers, buying a £1.6m house?! Nice work.

MNSEN · 18/06/2021 20:04

Ah I remember wanting one of those lampshades years ago. Did I see it in a shop in Hampstead even?? Racking my brains trying to remember!

MNSEN · 18/06/2021 20:05

@Peoniesandpeaches

I really love the lampshade in the child’s room with the birds… so cheers for sending me down a rabbit hole trying to find where it’s from Grin
Sorry that was in reply to this.

As you were.

Yazhi · 18/06/2021 20:05

@kindlekeeper House 1 has a cellar too. The agent just didn't bother putting it on the floor plan. They took truly crap photos as well. Are there other areas people would look in with really great state schools, access to green space and a good high street?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 18/06/2021 20:06

@MiloAndEddie

Well that’s a stealth brag if ever I saw one Grin
Yup!

It’s nicely done obviously but for that money/size I’d want a parking space. Still if you think it’s worth it….

Summerfun54321 · 18/06/2021 20:07

It looks like hanging gallows! The way it’s roped up with that massive frame. Terrifying.

MiloAndEddie · 18/06/2021 20:07

The more expensive one is much bigger though, 600 square ft bigger.

NakedAttraction · 18/06/2021 20:08

If house 1 has a cellar I think they missed a trick. They could have put the utility down there instead of that weird internal bit in the middle of the house.

House 2 is expensive but I’d want to do the side return and loft conversion.

Southwestrunningmum · 18/06/2021 20:08

@Peoniesandpeaches oooo me to on the light shade

MissCruellaDeVil · 18/06/2021 20:09

Flats have gone down in value because no one wants to be stuck in one in case of another lockdown! Houses in my area have gone up extortionate amounts.

Plus the cladding issue for a lot of purpose built.
1000glitterydicks · 18/06/2021 20:10

First one is much nicer!!

kindlekeeper · 18/06/2021 20:10

East molesey, Surbiton, teddington, twickenham, Thames ditton all have lots of green space and great schools.

Graham and green had a similar light.

highlighteryellow · 18/06/2021 20:11

It's all monopoly money to me but I actually think I prefer house 2 🤔 It is a lot bigger and seems a better use of the space to me.
