To think my neighbour can drill a whole in my house to permanently hang a 15ft tarpaulin?

So, name changed as obviously outting as pretty sure this isn't a normal occurance!

My neighbour has drilled a hole in my (grade 2 listed) building so she can permanently hang a piece of tarpaulin about 15ft up (as high as my 1st floor roof) for "privacy". Surely she can't just do this? Where do I go from here? It blocks all the light out to my ground floor windows now. Have included (bad) diagram.

To think my neighbour can drill a whole in my house to permanently hang a 15ft tarpaulin?

Keep thinking about you @Euro21widow particularly during the last windy storms. Hope some progress has been made.

OP, have you heard from the planning or heritage people? If not, it really is time to involve a solicitor.

As someone who lives in a listed building I’m amazed they are being so relaxed about this. Hope they force her to remove

BokehBabe · 03/08/2021 15:33

No thankyou - I don't give you permission to attach anything either permanent or similar permanent to my building. Please remove it within 14 days or I shall contract someone to do this on your behalf and forward you their invoice for the cost.

OP - I'd be worried also about it being attached to your property and somehow (I've no idea how) you becoming liable in some way for damages should it fall and hurt or damage someone/thing.

Our local council is still working from home so I think this may well be one of the reasons that is delaying a site visit. It might well pay OP to wait for a planning decision rather than instructing a solicitor at this stage. She might have legal cover with her household insurance

What has the insurance legal helpline said?

I don't see how appealing to the council/planning people helps, surely if anything they are going to take action against you for not getting the thing taken down? It's on your building, you are the one in charge of making sure bad things don't happen to your listed building. Even if the only way you can do that is by incurring legal expenses, hiring a hitman to take out the neighbours, or whatever.

(Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if I've missed anything relevant.)

Our conservation officers here are so strict that I sometimes pause before opening my curtains in the morning to wonder if I should ask permission to do so Grin

Have you heard anything back from them? PPs have posted about trespass/right to light/criminal damage/nuisance - are you going to follow these up OP?

Wow - she needs telling! If you have legal cover on your home insurance they may be able to assist.

MN doesn't allow troll hunting posts, ie questioning veracity. You report to them if you suspect veracity

But they haven’t posted for over a month, so what’s your aim?

@FinallyFluid

There is a world of difference between questioning the veracity of a post and going hither and thither all over the board to prove a post may have come from a troll.

No there isn't. Just report and shut up. If you post on the thread you will be reported for troll hunting. Them's the rules.

Just stop it.
