Swim/play in the river, you should not be surprised if they come down with a flu/cold the next day?

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 17/06/2021 17:14

You cannot catch flu from a river 🙄

OnTheBrink1 · 17/06/2021 17:15

Do you actually believe that a cold / flu comes from a river or being cold?

iklboo · 17/06/2021 17:15

I'd definitely be surprised since rivers don't carry viruses.

MysweetAudrina · 17/06/2021 17:15

Why would they though? Should I be surprised if the catch COVID that way too or gonorrhoea?

LemonSherbetFancies · 17/06/2021 17:16

They are not the cleanest of places though are they?

OP posts:
WildWestWanda · 17/06/2021 17:16

😂😂

negomi90 · 17/06/2021 17:16

Why would they be linked?
Rivers may have bacteria or weird bugs but not flu/cold viruses.

Gazelda · 17/06/2021 17:16

What? Of course I'd be surprised. The swim would have nothing to do with the cold/flu and in my experience, colds/flu have been virtually non-existent since we've all been wearing masks, washing hands etc.

wildeverose · 17/06/2021 17:17

Your child can get bacteria or an infection from
A dirty river or stream. You absolutely can't get Cold or flu from a river

Gazelda · 17/06/2021 17:18

Do you want to share the context of this question OP?

Dogsandbabies · 17/06/2021 17:18

Are you my grandmother?

You do know you can't catch a cold or a virus from a river, right?

DartmoorDoughnut · 17/06/2021 17:18

Wtf?! These sort of situations is what the saying bless your heart was invented for I swear

Scutterbug · 17/06/2021 17:19

ghostyslovesheets · 17/06/2021 17:19

oh OP - bless you!

shouldistop · 17/06/2021 17:19

I'm not sure how you would catch a cold or flu from a river.

LemonSherbetFancies · 17/06/2021 17:20

Neighbours sons went swimming in a river yesterday and today the youngest woke up with a fever and sore throat. Mum was really surprised by it and couldn't work out why he had got ill.
Maybe just me but I would have thought it was self explanatory.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/06/2021 17:20

also you wont get piles from siting on a step

ObviousNameChage · 17/06/2021 17:20

Is it fish flu?

InTheDrunkTank · 17/06/2021 17:20

This is the weirdest thread ever! You know flu can only be transferred between humans not from water or river creatures right?

Aside from that if you live rurally there are plenty of clean rivers for kids to play in, they don't suddenly become sick from it. The local playground will have all kinds of bacteria living in pigeon pop etc you just make sure kids wash their hands properly.

Forstarters · 17/06/2021 17:20

I think you need a basic understanding of viruses 😂 educate yourself!

backinthebox · 17/06/2021 17:20

So no, it is not self explanatory. Unless you have reinvented science.

BlusteryLake · 17/06/2021 17:21

I have found that when I let my children play outdoors in nature they come back glowing and happy. Unless you're letting them play next to some kind of open sewage outlet I think they'll be fine 😀

shouldistop · 17/06/2021 17:21

It's not self explanatory as you can't catch viruses from a river, you catch them from other people. How do you not know this given the last year?

I don't know why the mum is surprised about her dc being ill though, children get ill from being around other children.

Forstarters · 17/06/2021 17:22

Have you suggested a PCR test for the river? Can’t be too careful
