AIBU to move from Nottingham to Mansfield?

Have lived in naice parts of Nottingham (West Bridgford, The Park, Mapperley Park) forever and am now considering our next house move now the kids have all gone.

Am I mad to consider moving to Mansfield? Only 15 miles away, and much cheaper for similar house types. We could pay off our mortgage, get a similar house with a much bigger garden and still live in a sizeable town with a cinema, theatre, town centre market etc.

My partner thinks I’m mad. What’s Mansfield like to live in? Are there any hidden gems in the town centre?

Another one saying I'd avoid Mansfield with the places you've lived and liked so far.

Beeston is really lovely - although getting really pricey. We recently moved from there to Long Eaton as we couldn't afford a 3 bed in Beeston - I'd have lived to stay but we were just priced out, despite our 2 bed having gone up as well.

People are snippy about Long Eaton but it has some really nice parts. I'd agree about just going to an area and having a good wander before you think about buying in it - get a sense of what it's like weekdays, weekends and evenings.

Veterinari I don’t work for the Mansfield tourist board, I don’t even live there. I offered my opinion, you offered yours. Lets not invest any more time in this discussion.

In terms of crime (anecdotal I know!) the only times I’ve experienced crime living in Nottingham was when I lived in west bridgford for 3 years. I was burgled twice, car stereo nicked once and car stolen once. I still wouldn’t swap west bridgford for Mansfield.

@KittyKel No one suggested you did Confused Also I didn't offer my opinion actually. I offered health and deprivation statistics. Have you even been to Mansfield? Or do you just like to slag people off for providing factual info?
