Mama and "tiny human"?

I don't mean toddlers saying mama, more when people describe themselves as "Mama to Otis" or similar.
Tiny human is just dreadful. It just feels so twee to me.

AIBU?

@ShinyGreenElephant

Scousers absolutely do not say mom 🤣 mum or ma
He says mum and writes mom. Born 1937. Says it's a Liverpool thing. Maybe he's been telling a weird lie all these years!
SilverGoblin · 17/06/2021 21:24

There's an advert for some shit or other doing the rounds at the moment.

"Look at me mummeeeeee" or "mummeeeeee, look at me" or some such. Not a hundred percent certain as am smashing the skip/pause button viciously at the time.

The way that bloody kid says mummeeeeee.

I want to rake out my own fucking eyeballs every time I hear it.

I hate the word mummy in all its iterations.

Maunderingdrunkenly · 17/06/2021 23:13

The mom thing is Brum also

My dad is chronic for it

NeonDreams · 18/06/2021 09:27

YANBU I also can't stand Mama/Mam/Mammy. I read it as mam-a (as in ham), mam (as in ham) and mammy (as in hammy) and wonder why people cannot simply write Mumma/Mum/Mummy. Even Mom is better.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 18/06/2021 09:33

Someone I work with has a toddler son, and constantly posts pictures of him that say 'Wee man cut down'

WTF. Confused

cafedesreves · 18/06/2021 22:31

Another word I (love to) hate is "adulting".

BadLad · 19/06/2021 01:35

Cray cray. Just say crazy, for Christ's sake. No need to hide behind babyish terms.

I've only seen it on here, fortunately. I've never heard it.

Susannahmoody · 19/06/2021 02:17

Baby daddy is terrible

Like men need more help to be infantilised!

Rno3gfr · 19/06/2021 02:28

My 2.5 year old still calls me ‘mama’ and I’m making no effort to change it. We’re welsh speakers, although I don’t sound it, so it’s not pronounced as a long winded ‘mumma’. I don’t like ‘tiny human’ or ‘little man’ though.

You can fight me on the ‘mama’ front if you think your whiny ‘mummyyyyyy’ is better.

Myrighteyeball · 19/06/2021 03:24

*@recklessruby

Mumma Bear. Why? Are you a huge furry animal?*

Well I am fat and a bit hirsute so...yes? Grin

But OP, YANBU.

Metallicalover · 19/06/2021 03:29

@NeonDreams
You wouldn't like to live in the north east! Mam and Mammys are very common. I love the fact I can now buy Mam cards in most card shops in the north east as years ago they were hard to get!
I'm a Mam/Mammy and Mum sounds weird with a George accent!

Winwins · 19/06/2021 03:48

WhenDC1 was 4, they randomly started calling mum Mams, having always been mummy. It drive me nutty for ages, but I eventually git used to it. They now use both interchangeably.

I’m actually quite relaxed about most of these which are like pet names for the child. I don’t see much difference between saying “buddy” “bubba” or “little dude” and “sweetheart” or “darling.” I’m not sure people would bat an eyelid at those.

DalPalak · 19/06/2021 03:53

"Adulting" is God awful. As is "mama" in conversations between adults. I just find them patronising.

I don't like "gurl" being used when it's not a natural part of the vernacular. I have an Asian English friend who does this -- she puts on something approximating a black American accent and says "Hey, gurrl! Yes, gurrl!" I never know how to respond haha.

TortolaParadise · 19/06/2021 06:29

I dislike the word mean as in; 'She was being mean to me'

I also dislike the phrase 'moving forward'
