Mama and "tiny human"?

I don't mean toddlers saying mama, more when people describe themselves as "Mama to Otis" or similar.
Tiny human is just dreadful. It just feels so twee to me.

I also hate it when people refer to babies as sexy......

HaplotypeK · 17/06/2021 09:55

Yanbu

ShinyGreenElephant · 17/06/2021 09:56

Agree mumma is far worse than mama and tiny human is awful. My biggest hate is poorly or even worse 'poorly sick'. To me that is baby talk and it makes me so irrationally angry when anyone over the age of 3 says it.

DancesWithTortoises · 17/06/2021 09:58

Furbaby.

peruse · 17/06/2021 09:59

I’m a mama (rather than a mum), but we’re forrin so perhaps it’s different?

I cannot stand “no bother” and “of a morning”

Blueballinthegarden · 17/06/2021 09:59

@SmidgenofaPigeon

Vegetables and fruit aren’t as bad as the dessert version. ‘A slice of cake’ or ‘a bowl of popcorn’ 😂
Shock which app is this!!! I could waste hours!! Their idea of a slice of cake is absolutely not going to be the same as mine at this point 😂 not sure my baby is the size of an M&S Black Forest Gateaux 😂
ShinyGreenElephant · 17/06/2021 10:01

Yes! Furbaby is the worst ever, and mumma to a furbaby. I've never ever come across someone calling a baby sexy Confused

3ormorecharacters · 17/06/2021 10:04

I often call myself mama to my 6mo and wouldn't mind if she ends up calling me that - I find mummy more cringey and hate that whiney "muuummeeee" thing so kind of prefer it. However I don't call myself "a mama" or use it in any context other than talking to my daughter. Also strongly dislike bubba, bubs etc.

Pansypotter123 · 17/06/2021 10:07

@FloraFauna27 even better, "boy done good" 🥴

giantwaterbottle · 17/06/2021 10:11

You are definitely not being unreasonable, I absolutely (irrationally) hate it! Makes me cringe

sugarlost · 17/06/2021 10:12

Narrative...
I don't know why but it seems to be the latest buzz/trendy word to me and it seems everyone is using it... maybe I'm wrong.

Baby daddy... there are no words

Bae (may have spelt that wrong)

notalwaysalondoner · 17/06/2021 10:14

I also hate how in maternity care it's always 'baby' not 'the baby'. 'Baby is wriggling today', 'Baby is head down today' etc.

Its name isn't 'baby', stop removing the definite article FGS!

cupoftea2021 · 17/06/2021 10:22

@recklessruby

Mumma Bear. Why? Are you a huge furry animal?
😂
cupoftea2021 · 17/06/2021 10:22

Baby daddy
So trash

BAE is correct (and vom) Before Anyone Else
cupoftea2021 · 17/06/2021 10:23

Mama -just no.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/06/2021 10:27

Someone at my work says “small human” all the time and it drives me nuts!

AgathaAllAlong · 17/06/2021 10:31

What is wrong with mama? It's just imitating how babies first say mummy. The same with Babba, it's from when babies can't say their own name or "baby". There is solid evidence that using babies' own sounds back to them helps develop speech. These words are us naturally doing that by using language the babies can join in with.

I don't really mind most of these, although Tiny Human does annoy me. It's because refering to people as humans in general annoys me, as in "She's a wonderful human being". It's so weirdly scientific, just say person! Also agree with Mumma bear. Being protective of my child does not make me an animal.

@Tlollj

My upcoming grandchild is the size of a kiwi, if any one is interested.
Gosh that's quite big, does the beak hurt?

My sister refers to my son as 'bubby' or 'bubba' and I have to exercise quite a lot of self control not to tell her exactly how irrationally ragey it makes me.

SamMil · 17/06/2021 10:45

I prefer Mama to Mummy. I think most children say Mama first anyway as it is an easier sound?

RestingPandaFace · 17/06/2021 10:47

I tell my DS he is my “favourite tiny human” I’ve never consciously heard anyone else say it but I shall go and put myself in time out anyway.

See you in 40 something minutes Grin

Meirou90 · 17/06/2021 10:51

I hate the word “twee.”

LadyJaye · 17/06/2021 10:52

@shallIswim

And for an irrational reason I hate the word 'tasty'
Yes - me too! Thank you for bringing this up, I thought it was just me being completely unreasonable.

I cannot for the life of me explain why I find it so hideous, but it really riles me.

My best friend uses this word constantly and it really pains me, but she's lovely in all other respects, so I just cringe inwardly.
