Are toddler beds necessary? My ds is two and about to move from cot into bed and I'm unsure of what to look for. Any tips? ta

You don't have to have one, they can go straight to a 'big bed' but they are useful if space is limited. If you do go for one, Argos do a reasonably priced one but don't go for the cheap foam mattress, they sag very quickly. Also, I didn't bother to buy a small duvet. I just got a standard single and I tuck the excess under the foot of the mattress. It means I won't have to by new duvets when the DSs move to bunk beds plus the duvet never slides off in the night!

We 'ummed' and 'aaahed' about buying a toddler bed and then realised we didn't want the extra cost of having to buy a normal single bed when our DS got bigger so we ended up buying a single bed from Ikea with a good quality mattress.

My dds both have them in their shared room, they will eventually have bunk beds but as youngest DD is only 18mths, they were the only option until then as the room is too small for 2 single beds.
