To ask what's the easiest car to drive (collision avoidance features, etc)

Im looking for a car that has a good set of safety features that make it easy to drive. For example I find it quite difficult to judge the space around my car sometimes and when I drive through my neighbourhood there are a lot of cars that are parked halfway onto the pavement that I need to weave around. What safety features help with this?

Also looking for lane assistance, collision avoidance, 360 camera, parking assistance etc. And I would also prefer a hybrid. I've been digging around on car maker's websites and find the options and information quite confusing. So AIBU to ask for advice and information please. Do you have a car you love with features such as these? Thank you.

My eyes seem to work perfectly for collision avoidance, parking and staying in a lane

QueenofBrickdon · 16/06/2021 15:56

Tesla model 3 fits the bill although it's all electric rather than a hybrid. Pricey though!

Touloser · 16/06/2021 15:56

Honestly I'd recommend investing in lessons before investing in a new car Confused

hedgehogger1 · 16/06/2021 15:57

My i3 beeps if I get close to things. It's pretty annoying though

araiwa · 16/06/2021 15:57

Taxi sounds best for you

NotJustACigar · 16/06/2021 16:01

I've had lessons. I have issues with depth perception. Only answers about car makes and models are requested please.

OP I feel for you 😃 I’m the same and so looking forward to answers!

Sparrowsong · 16/06/2021 16:03

Tesla

Ponoka7 · 16/06/2021 16:06

I don't know anything about cars but a friend has just got a Skoda with sensors. I know Skodas tend to last.

TinyTear · 16/06/2021 16:06

I was going to say Tesla Model 3 as well but wouldn't trust the autopark... but all the other beeps are great

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 16/06/2021 16:09

DH has an eye condition that affects his depth perception. He is able to drive, but he finds that cars with a square shape are easier for him to manoeuvre, because he can see the edges and ends more easily. So for him it's less about models and specs than the shape of the car. He finds, for example, estate cars much easier to handle than saloons or coupes.

Quite recently we hired a Jeep Patriot on holiday. It was a dreadful car in many ways, but he found it very easy to drive and manoeuvre because of the upright, angular shape of it. It had a big glass area too, so was light and had good visibility all round.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/06/2021 16:10

I wouldn't trust all the sensors etc either.

Can you imagine saying to your insurance company after a crash 'the car crashed itself, nothing to do with me'

Crocky · 16/06/2021 16:11

I have a Volvo. It has an annoying amount of warning signs and noises, can park itself and has 360 degree cameras.

RancidOldHag · 16/06/2021 16:18

Have a look at the hybrid Skoda Superb

www.whatcar.com/skoda/superb/hatchback/review/n93

Has the features you're after at a lower price than imioar vehicles from other marques

PennyDreadful66 · 16/06/2021 16:19

It's not a hybrid but my Peugeot 3008 has a lot of those features

NotJustACigar · 16/06/2021 16:20

I was thinking of the Volvo XC40, Crocky. A Tesla would be fun but not that practical I don't think with a dog, camping equipment, etc. Interesting about the square shape and visibility, BloodyStupidJohnson!

You sound like a danger to others.

NotJustACigar · 16/06/2021 16:23

And you sound charming Grin

I might as well point out that the worst thing I've ever done in the car was to clip someone's wing mirror once. Sorry if that's terrifying for anyone!

My bmw i3 is really good.

Parking sensors

Brakes when you remove foot from accelerator

Active cruise control so it keeps your safe distance from car in front.

jasjas1973 · 16/06/2021 16:34

If you struggle with depth perception, then i would look at models from the VAG range and specifically for collision the ID4.

Our former CEO has got one, raves about it.

The honda accord hybrid is good too, rated no1 by some US mags.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 16/06/2021 16:36

I find cars in which you sit slightly higher and that have a shorter front quite good in terms of visibility. For example have a look at the Citroen Picasso. No idea if it has all the fancy safety features you are after, but I could imagine it's brilliant for going camping with its big boot.

MotherOfFrenchies · 16/06/2021 16:38

We have a BMW 330e touring - it’s got full surround parking sensors, camera for front and lane assist etc. it’s also got a heads up display onto the windscreen which I found distracting at first but now I think it’s great! I was a nervous driver and didn’t drive for 7 years (just didn’t need a car back then) but having a modern car (especially an automatic) takes a lot of stress out of parking up/manoeuvring/navigating other road users!

HerRoyalNotness · 16/06/2021 16:40

I suppose most new cars will have all those features. We recently got a Honda Pilot which has them. You might look at a Honda CR-V which comes in a hybrid model.

I have had about six XC60s in a row. Really good cars to drive and has the safety features you describe. Family members have gone into XC40s too and like them. I work in the motor trade and rate Volvo.
