To ask what's the easiest car to drive (collision avoidance features, etc)

Im looking for a car that has a good set of safety features that make it easy to drive. For example I find it quite difficult to judge the space around my car sometimes and when I drive through my neighbourhood there are a lot of cars that are parked halfway onto the pavement that I need to weave around. What safety features help with this?

Also looking for lane assistance, collision avoidance, 360 camera, parking assistance etc. And I would also prefer a hybrid. I've been digging around on car maker's websites and find the options and information quite confusing. So AIBU to ask for advice and information please. Do you have a car you love with features such as these? Thank you.

My mental and physical health are totally fine thank you! These cars are made for people who are safety conscious. Wanting to be as safe as possible for yourself and other road users doesn't make someone a bad driver - it's people who think they are gods gift to the roads and can do no wrong who are actually dangerous! Although I really suspect these types of comments are just designed to try to make someone feel bad with a thin veneer of faux concern to try to disguise it....

I drive a Skoda. They do have good parking sensors but I think the Superb and Octavia models have poor rear visibility just through their design. I wouldn’t choose one again I don’t think if this were my top factor.

Agree i've a got a newsish Octavia, decent car but not great on features.

Far better safety features on other models.

ii'm with the OP, can't have enough safety features on cars, vehicle drivers kill 1800 people every year, 300 are children.

I'd love one that forced cars to slow down and make the driver give plenty of space when overtaking cyclists.... step up VW Honda etc etc

I’ve got a Ford Kuga, it’s got all the safety stuff, lane keeping, sensors, park assist, hill start assist etc, cheapish to buy, cheap to buy, new ones are fully Hybrid

Every car is easy to drive,it's the person driving it that becomes the monster,

I have a Volvo xc40. The collision assist is quite honestly a danger. It slams the anchors on, makes a horrible grinding noise and a shrill high pitched noise comes from the dashboard. Often with no discernible collision risk in sight. I’ve switched it off as it’s far more likely to cause an accident than prevent one.

not a mazda 6. good for safety but the back corner just disappears out of sight. and the front of the bonnet dips out of sight.

All these cars are massive! surely you’d be better with something small that you can easily weave through parked cars. Someone mentioned a Renault Zoe that would probably fit the bill

RosesAndHellebores · 22/06/2021 20:52

OP, I think you should go for a Maserati GTS Grin

Collision avoidance features? Um...that would be you!

Newkitchen123 · 22/06/2021 20:59

I don't even know what most of these features are. I just watch where I'm going. What on earth does lane assistance do?
I have rear parking sensors that's about it.
As for the PP description of how collision feature works that sounds really dangerous

SunSeaSurfGin · 22/06/2021 21:12

I like my Toyotas parking sensors it's a bog standard Aygo.

I learnt to drive in a Citroen which basically drove itself which was a bit Hmm whilst trying to learn

I have a range rover evoque hybrid and it has all of the features you are looking for OP.

Not sure if an SUV would be too big or what your budget is, but I’ve recently bought a Nissan Quashqai (N-Connecta and 2nd hand).
This particular model has cameras all around the outside of the vehicle. So not only can I see what’s behind me on camera when reversing (it’s great for parking!) but also I can switch to the front camera to see what’s in front of me if I need to (great for when parking alongside kerbs). And obviously it has a sensor that tells you if you’re too near anything or if something is near to your car (so if someone walks near your car, it will beep to warn you).

Admittedly I don’t need the camera feature, but I do love using it when I fancy being lazy Grin

It also has a lane departure feature and braking warning system (beeps if you get too close to the car in front).

So lots of safety features (there’s a few more but can’t remember all of them). Think the Quashqai did win awards previously for having such good safety features.
