to think that Marks and Spencers have lost the plot with women's dresses?

I went in today and, for a start, there's very little in stock.
But what was worse was how unattractive everything was.
this stood out, especially. Even with a gorgeous model it looks uber frumpy.

I've seen worse dresses. That particular one isn't my taste, but I am a huge fan of the puff sleeved, tiered, ditsy dresses that are around just now.

They've always been my style and preference and I'm so happy that there are so many around at the moment.

Even when they go "out of fashion" I'll still continue to wear them

TheWomanInTheIronedMask · 17/06/2021 12:39

"And your daughter’s a bit stupid if she writes off entire brands because every label has some good stuff if you look for it"

Hmm

@Blossomtoes are you often so (needlessly!) rude about people's DCs? Calling her stupid is really unnecessary.

TheWomanInTheIronedMask · 17/06/2021 12:41

I didn't like the "twice your age and obese" comment (basically calling some women old and fat Hmm) either.

Cant we just stick to lighthearted judgement of Marks shit dresses Grin

Blossomtoes · 17/06/2021 12:42

It’s AIBU 🤷‍♀️

TheWomanInTheIronedMask · 17/06/2021 12:50

So someone posting an AIBU thread means it's OK to call other peoples' DC stupid? You were needlessly rude IMO (and it wasn't even my DC being insulted, but you know...manners)

On a forum where posters routinely call each other cunts, I think you’re being a tiny bit picky.
Posieandpip · 17/06/2021 13:01

😳 i love that dress! I'd not seen it before but I honestly quite want it.

DrManhattan · 17/06/2021 13:18

Well this took a nasty turn ..

Bythemillpond · 17/06/2021 13:24

almahart
I love that dress on the model but on me, with big boobs and big stomach and about 10” shorter than the model it would look like a cross between a tent and a floor sweeper

DoctorSnortles · 17/06/2021 13:37

Another one not happy with the ‘twice your age and obese’ comment. Are fat, older people like myself not allowed to wear the same clothes as you young, slender lovelies? Perhaps you could have some sort of hessian sack uniform created that we have to wear, to avoid upsetting you.

Bear in mind that one day you, too, will be older. And not everyone stays slim as the years go by - you might be the fat old git at the bus stop yourself, sooner than you realise.

Standrewsschool · 17/06/2021 13:48

I’m a fat old git, and in the last year have brought dresses from non-fat git shops such as Topshop. Ignore the label (and size) and buy clothes you like, whether from M and S, Cos, Fatface, Asda or Sosander. There’s a lot of clothes snobbery on mn.

BogRollBOGOF · 17/06/2021 14:43

DM loves to go to M&S for a good bitch about the frumpy old dresses. She's in her 80s Grin
Half of the ones in last year looked like her 1970s maternity wear.

Nohomemadecandles · 17/06/2021 14:52

To be fair, at 18 I wouldn't have been seen dead in M&S either. But I think all those years ago it was pretty dire.
I got a couple of cute t shirts yesterday whilst mid "bra-gate". They are an odd fit. More fitted than I'd imagined.

Classica · 17/06/2021 14:55

I think it's absolutely fine for an 18 year old to not want to be seen dead in M&S clothing. I don't know why some people have to get so defensive on behalf of a high street chain.

Bellyups · 17/06/2021 15:00

It looks typical autumn/winter M&S Collection to me!
To be fair, it’s not really styled nicely on the model, and could look a lot better

Blossomtoes · 17/06/2021 15:14

Just out of curiosity, what does your mum wear @BogRollBOGOF?

TenBobNote · 17/06/2021 15:24

My problem is that a lot of current fashion (most shops) sell the kind of things my gran used to wear in the 70s, so looks frumpy to me, but obviously it's trendy if you're younger than me

😂 That’s exactly what I said to my dd yesterday. We were both looking for a dress. I’m mid fifties, she’s 23. All the dresses she loved I hated and I said, “Good God these dresses are what my grandmother wore!”

Isn’t fashion strange?

Ellpellwood · 17/06/2021 15:33

I like a midi shirt dress with trainers - I'm 37, size 10.

However, not for £40-£50. M&S is just an expensive Matalan. I get my dresses from TU!

Ellpellwood · 17/06/2021 15:36

Like this. £18, sleeves, different lengths. That would be £35 in Marks.

OlympicProcrastinator · 17/06/2021 15:49

Personally, I loved it when ASOS were flogging this a while back. M & S should take tips from them.

(Not Grin)

PurpleDaisies · 17/06/2021 15:53

That looks er, sweaty.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 17/06/2021 16:47

@Standrewsschool I have that dress in black and it is utterly fab - the one I talked about in my post. It’s lined as well!

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 17/06/2021 17:19

@TheWomanInTheIronedMask

Oh thank you for reminding me about the pink frock thread Grin needed a big smile today. Flowers

I refreshed that thread so enthusiastically waiting for the changing room pics. Not in a pervy way of course. I tried desperately to buy that dress but it had disappeared. I hoped for a vast Mumsnet meet-up, all of us wearing The Dress, like a pink tsunami coming off the train at Kings Cross.

@Meddy583 whoa that was a bit cruel.
