You can go to a local notary but it will cost you

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/06/2021 19:51

You don’t have to shout. Local Facebook group?

Blackberrybunnet · 14/06/2021 19:54

Could you ask your dentists? or a local minister/priest? I also notice that "licensee of a public house" is an approved profession. If you politely contact them first to ask, and take proof of identity and address ... surely they wouldn't expect payment?

Pollypudding · 14/06/2021 19:56

Maybe friends of your parents? You don’t have to be one of the listed professions - you can be a “person of good standing in the community”

theconstantheadache · 14/06/2021 19:58

Iv asked my local vicar and the lady who runs all the kids clubs and charity's in our area. they don't have passports and I don't have social media or drink.... my parents don't know anybody and I don't think my mums boss would count as she's a new manager ? Been their around 7 weeks now

Ask on Facebook if any of your friends can help - I've signed for friends kids when they've put a general plea out, people I've known for a while but wouldn't necessarily know what job I do to think to ask me directly.
Or do you have any neighbours who could help?

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 14/06/2021 19:59

Who countersigned yours? IIRC, it has to be somebody who knows you, not your baby.

Mellonsprite · 14/06/2021 20:01

It generally needs to be someone with a qualification or registered with a professional body. What about a Teacher?

AlCalavicci · 14/06/2021 20:01

I think library staff can sign them too but you need to take a stack of ID with you , or if you sign on the job centre may ???

Marmite27 · 14/06/2021 20:03

How long have you had your bank account? I’ve known bank staff do it.

2bazookas · 14/06/2021 20:07

ask your local bank. Or the pharmacist at your local chemist.

stuntfarter · 14/06/2021 20:07

DancesWithDaffodils · 14/06/2021 20:09

The list is a guide, not an exhaustive list.

Who signed yours or your husbands?

PortMerrionCentre · 14/06/2021 20:09

@AlCalavicci

I think library staff can sign them too but you need to take a stack of ID with you , or if you sign on the job centre may ???
It has to be someone who knows you - no point turning up at the library with ID unless you have been using the library for at least 2 years
PortMerrionCentre · 14/06/2021 20:10

And obviously the staff member needs to have worked there for 2 years and knows you

LoopTheLoops · 14/06/2021 20:11

Surprised bank staff would do it I thought you had to actually know the person, I’ve had my bank account for 13 years and I am not familiar with any of the staff at my local branch!

Leeds2 · 14/06/2021 20:12

GPs will often sign them. But you will have to pay.

Schnauzersaremyheros · 14/06/2021 20:13

Vets and registered veterinary nurses can signs too (if you know any of those).

hookiewookie29 · 14/06/2021 20:13

Ofsted registered childminders can sign them. Do you know any?
I'm a CM and have signed several

Howshouldibehave · 14/06/2021 20:14

Any neighbours? GP (though think they charge)?

Councilworker · 14/06/2021 20:15

Do you know anyone who works for the council? We can do it for someone we know.

advancenames · 14/06/2021 20:18

Do you have a job, or previous job where you could ask your employer? How long ago did you leave school - could one of your old teachers sign? Any friends from school who've gone into managerial or professional-type jobs or set up their own business? A neighbour? Someone you know's husband or wife who is in one of these jobs? Friends' parents? Who signed your passport? It has to be someone who knows you, not your child, so could the same person do it?

roobicoobi · 14/06/2021 20:19

GP cannot sign a passport unless they know you personally.

LeeHarper5 · 14/06/2021 20:20

A GP or dentist has to know you as a personal friend. If they put they know you as a patient the application will be rejected.
You local post master can sign if you regularly go there and know them reasonably well. Teaching assistants can too.

skinschool · 14/06/2021 20:23

Pretty sure GPs cannot sign them anymore. My midwife agreed to do mine and DD's, but then cancelled at the last minute, when the practice told her she wasn't allowed to.

I went with a teacher, but need to renew DD's and the teacher that did it is no longer there, and the others are refusing.
