Do you find it funny when people trip over?

I have friends that are, on the whole, generally polite. We are in our 30s. When it comes to a member of our group tripping over though, that all goes to shit and everyone thinks it's bloody hilarious! I remember being at school and if anyone tripped over, they would always be greeted by a "wheeyyyy" and a clap. I genuinely have never found it funny, but wondered what other people think?

I laugh straight away, because I can't help it.

Really, you have that little control over yourself? Are you an adult?

OrangeSharked · 14/06/2021 20:23

@SappysCurry you've repeatedly extrapolated the situation, like suggesting people slow down at road accidents because they laugh at a funny fall. You've made multiple judgemental posts calling people thick (which you still haven't explained why this is a negative thing). Judgemental posts about other classes, let's be honest you are mocking people who you consider beneath you when you are talking about women in magaluf.

You can't sit here and take the moral high ground, and talking about kindness when you write posts like your one earlier. It seems some of us laugh at falls, others at thick people 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 20:23

@KeepingTrack I don’t know how many times I have to say I wouldn’t laugh if someone was hurt.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 14/06/2021 20:24

I'm a misanthropic old bag. I will quite happily mutter 'serves you right' when a drunk goes arse over tit.

But it's not funny. Not when they do it, not when anybody else does it and especially if they've actually collapsed or hurt themselves in the process. I will make light of it to try and distract somebody mildly injured or OK if appropriate in the circumstances (I'm a first aider and never got the hang of walking away when there's a problem anywhere it isn't technically my responsibility), but I don't actually find it amusing - and that only ever happens if I've already established that they are still breathing and nothing appears to be broken.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 14/06/2021 20:25

It depends entirely on the reaction of the person who has fallen.

I have balance issues and am often tripping about. I would hate it if everyone around me became very serious every time this happened.

DH says I'm like a boat because I have to plan any changes in direction way ahead of time. :o

We are all different.

NigellaSeed · 14/06/2021 20:26

Why is falling over so embarrassing? I know that it is of course. But, why? It's not unreasonable that a bi ped would occasionally topple over.

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 20:27

@OrangeSharked
Aka
Shagaluf

Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 20:30

What’s wrong with shagging now?

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 14/06/2021 20:30

Especially if those bi-peds own cats, Nigella.

A species seemingly determined to prove the evolutionary flaw that is two legs.

XenoBitch · 14/06/2021 20:32

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion

I laugh straight away, because I can't help it.

Really, you have that little control over yourself? Are you an adult?

Are you saying that you have never stifled a laugh? Can anyone help what they find funny?
SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 20:32

What’s wrong with STD’s Now?

Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 20:33

You really have a rather bleak view of life @SappysCurry

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 14/06/2021 20:34

How did we move on to STDs?

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 20:35

Bleak?
Because I don’t think people falling over is funny ?

Okay then …

Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 20:37

Just a hunch @SappysCurry

iminthegarden · 14/06/2021 20:37

Depends on the person and circumstances and if they are hurt or not, but let's have a good old laugh at a funny stumble while we still can Grin

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 20:37

@GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou

How did we move on to STDs?
Hard to explain Glenda …..sorry But I think you are maybe on the wrong thread yours seems more cat/dog orientated?
NCtitleofyoursextape · 14/06/2021 20:38

No not funny and I judge people when I see them laughing.

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 20:38

@Jahebejrjr

Just a hunch *@SappysCurry*
Get you Jessica Fletcher 🤣
Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 20:38

Especially where the person breaks into a run to try to hide the fact they stumbled.

MaMelon · 14/06/2021 20:39
Grin
Confusedandshaken · 14/06/2021 20:40

@Jahebejrjr

Obviously I have enough emotional intelligence to distinguish between a situation where someone hurts themselves and where they don’t. DP is disabled and falls a lot. On those occasions he doesn’t hurt himself we laugh about it. Maybe it’s our coping mechanism. When he’s drunk and falls I shout at him because he has made himself vulnerable. Like I said if it’s a daft pratfall, another story.
How can you tell if someone has hurt themselves? Even they don't know that until they've picked themselves up (or not) and checked themselves over.
GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 14/06/2021 20:40

Well, it's relevant to this thread.

Cats often trip people up. I believe they do it on purpose.

KeepingTrack · 14/06/2021 20:41

@weegiemum

Nope. I'm disabled with a neurological condition that makes me very unsteady on my feel. I walk like a toddler.

Falls have included breaking my ankle in several places and splitting a kneecap. I can't get up unless I have something firm to hold on to and 1-2 people to help.

So no, I don't find anyone falling funny.

I sometimes wonder if people who can’t help laughing either
  • have never hurt themselves falling over - never a twisted ankle or broken bone ever. For them or someone close
  • have no ability to imagine how it feels to fall and hurt yourself.

Maybe it’s one of those things you need to personally experience….. Hmm

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 20:42

Come on now
Statistically how many times does this actually happen ?
Some posters on here are coming over like it happens at least three times a day and they therefore are experts as at assessing the gravity of the situation….and of course whether to laugh or not
Unless they live in a town with really uneven payments
