Do you find it funny when people trip over?

I have friends that are, on the whole, generally polite. We are in our 30s. When it comes to a member of our group tripping over though, that all goes to shit and everyone thinks it's bloody hilarious! I remember being at school and if anyone tripped over, they would always be greeted by a "wheeyyyy" and a clap. I genuinely have never found it funny, but wondered what other people think?
@Justme10

Just out of curiosity …how does someone who is ‘St Johns’’ feel anxious about helping someone in an accident
I would imagine that’s actually the job ?
If you actually read my comment, I did say I was able to do those things and then had a breakdown. Life can throw you a curveball, and I was given a massive one.

Justme10 · 14/06/2021 22:14

@SappysCurry if you read her post it says EX so it's not up to me or you to speculate what has happened since then that makes her anxious now.

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 22:15

@Handsoffstrikesagain

sappy thank you for taking the time to reply :)

It doesn’t
It says ex nhs

Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 22:16

For gods sake @SappysCurry leave the woman alone. This is cruel.

@SappysCurry Ex nhs and St. John's
Honestly I think you need to lay off her a bit, she snorts when someone falls over, get over it.

Oh it’s you again 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thanks. I was an ODP.. I took pride in calming down anxious patients. I was a good advocate for them. Nowadays, I can not even advocate for myself. I am under MH crisis service right now, just about avoiding hospital. If I manage to raise a small smile at someone having a tumble, well, sue me. I need all the smiles I can get right now.

WilsonMilson · 14/06/2021 22:17

I absolutely hate to see anyone hurt themselves, and I’ve never found it funny. I also hate watching shows where they show clips of so called funny accidents. I always worry they’ve really hurt themselves.

Shock
XenoBitch · 14/06/2021 22:19

@CaptainThe95thRifles

Even St John's Ambulance volunteers can have breakdowns and no longer be able to perform their roles.
I know a paramedic who has such bad anxiety, she is now using a mobility scooter. She can't walk. Only in her late 30s too. Never underestimate what anxiety can do to you. Such a massive waste as she adored her job.
CaptainThe95thRifles · 14/06/2021 22:19

If nearly half the population (of this thread at least) do something, can we really call it weird?

Too kind and compassionate to laugh at someone falling over but it's totally acceptable to badger someone who does have a chuckle and has said they suffer from anxiety, really nice Hmm

XenoBitch · 14/06/2021 22:20

@Handsoffstrikesagain

xeno I remember reading something about that sort of thing. It’s the brains reaction to trauma I think 🧐 I’ll see if I can find it again x
Thanks. The human brain is weird. I don't know why me, or anyone would get a hard time for a reaction that can't be helped.
Justme10 · 14/06/2021 22:22

@XenoBitch I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you are getting all the help you need Thanks
Take all the laughs you can get and I hope things start to improve for you soon Thanks

CaptainThe95thRifles · 14/06/2021 22:23

That's tragic, @XenoBitch. It's not a job I could do, so I have a great deal of respect for those who can, or have done it.

Nbnbnb · 14/06/2021 22:23

Tripping up, nope.
Tripping, nope.
Slipping and sliding on ice, yep.

But only if they are also laughing at the end. That's part of the humour (for me).

Nbnbnb · 14/06/2021 22:24

Ignore the second line (I'm not tripping!).

Scautish · 14/06/2021 22:27

@XenoBitch

I posted earlier that I sometimes laugh involuntarily when someone falls. I can’t control it. I don’t know why you are being picked on so much for saying the same thing.

It’s a depressing world when so many people try to turn a nuanced debate into something binary when it’s far more complex. As I said before, context is everything; old lady falls down and hits the pavement hard - no laughing - I call Ambulance and keep her warm until it arrives - not funny at all. I fall over in my way to school, rip my trousers completely but not hurt at all. My friend can’t speak for laughing so much - that’s absolutely fine as it was very, very funny.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/06/2021 22:28

I know i bailed but I expect @mnhq to do something about the oh so kind @SappysCurry bullying @XenoBitch

Because that kind of behaviour is disgusting and shouldn't be tolerated. As if nood is watching this
