To think I DON'T need to self isolate yet?

So I went to a birthday party in a friends garden last night. One of my friends had said she hadn't been feeling well all week, tight chest, headache etc but she'd taken several lateral flow tests so thought she was fine. Well this morning she has had a positive lateral flow test and is awaiting results of PCP test.

I had given her a hug and then touched her phone as she was showing me pictures on it and was sitting next to her most of the night. However, I read on government website that even if you have been in contact with someone with Covid you don't have to isolate until track and trace get in touch.

So am I right in saying I am free to go about as normal until I am contacted by track and trace? Will I even have to isolate if we were outside?

your friend fucked up - lateral flow is for asymptomatic only and frankly it is selfish to go to a party with an infection of any sort, which she clearly had.

her fuckup now means you have to isolate.

I think you should isolate, as while youre still out & about waiting for a confirmation from track & trace you could possibly be spreading the germs/virus!!! This is how its spreading!!! Yes, you may not have it but if you do-you are spreading the germsAngryAngry

@barnabypop

I'm isolating, I just thought it was weird that on the government website.
More fool you I sure as heck wouldn’t

Don't wait for Test and Trace. We didn't hear from them at all when our childminder came down with it just before Christmas and tested positive. The day before coming down with it she had both our kids all day and would've kissed and cuddled them. She was quite ill, so who knows if she passed on our details incorrectly, or if Test and Trace just dropped the ball.
But we all isolated, no questions, because we care about protecting others. (And luckily all stayed symptom free.)

@MintyMabel

LF tests are only meant for use for a symptomatic screening (and they’re pretty useless at that anyway).

Except they’re not useless, they are just another tool that allows us to pick up more community cases, usually asymptomatic ones, to try to stop the spread. False negatives are uncommon, false positives are more common which is why you are asked to follow a positive LFT result with a PCR test.

They aren’t perfect but they are far from useless.

I think the US FDA would beg to differ, and there are plenty of scientists and medics in this country with similar concerns. As one of them, I agree with the Americans that they would be more useful in the bin.

And as others have posted, it’s the other way around we false negatives and false positives.

Honestly how are people this stupid. Yes OP, if you have caught covid, you will oy be contagious AFTER track and trace contact you.

ErykahBaddy · 12/06/2021 16:49

Imagine in the current climate not feeling well all week with a tight chest, headache etc. and still going to a party. Jesus.

mam0918 · 12/06/2021 19:22

Also Test and Trace dont always contact everyone, its easy to be missed.

The only person I know that had covid was Asymptomatic and found out through the grapevine that someone they worked next to tested positive, Test and Trace had totally missed them when informing people.

The OP is isolating, but her employer is requesting proof for why she is isolating
Don't believe her. She's had her arse handed to her and is now changing her story.
Biffbaff · 13/06/2021 00:25

I'd be so annoyed with a friend if they gave me covid after going to a party knowing they had symptoms. I'd isolate and message her every day telling her what a shit time I was having because of her!
