To think I DON'T need to self isolate yet?

So I went to a birthday party in a friends garden last night. One of my friends had said she hadn't been feeling well all week, tight chest, headache etc but she'd taken several lateral flow tests so thought she was fine. Well this morning she has had a positive lateral flow test and is awaiting results of PCP test.

I had given her a hug and then touched her phone as she was showing me pictures on it and was sitting next to her most of the night. However, I read on government website that even if you have been in contact with someone with Covid you don't have to isolate until track and trace get in touch.

So am I right in saying I am free to go about as normal until I am contacted by track and trace? Will I even have to isolate if we were outside?

Well done for isolating. Rules on the website sound silly - no wonder the darned virus is spreading.

HDDD · 12/06/2021 14:34

Are you waiting for a package? If so you might want to track and trace it. Otherwise it's TEST and trace.

bigbluebus · 12/06/2021 14:36

Well you ask your employer how they're going to manage without the rest of the staff once you test positive and they all have to isolate rather than doing without just you for a few days.

Mumski45 · 12/06/2021 14:37

DS had a positive LFT on Monday morning followed by a positive PCR taken same day with result first thing the following morning. We isolated immediately other than to take him to get the test done. Track and trace rang within hours of getting the positive PCR.

However my husband and I were then offered a place on a research study which if you sign up for puts you in one of 2 groups. 1 group isolates as normal and takes a PCR. The other group takes a PCR on day 1 and an LFT every day. If the LFT is negative then you are allowed out for essential activities such as work shopping and exercise for the following 24 hours. We are both in 2nd group luckily and so far all test have been negative. This sounds like a more sensible approach if the research shows it's safe.
@Thatswatshesaid I didn't say I wouldn't isolate? I asked a question, the rules say what they say.
There's no rule against me putting my head into an open fire, but I won't because that would be stupid.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/06/2021 14:37

Jesus-this is why we will never sort this out-it’s not like this is March 2020 and you could get by with “but I didn’t know” FFS We’ve been living with this for 15months now. It’s pathetic that you’re saying “oh but the website says to wait for track and trace”-that’s for when you are unknowingly exposed. You have been exposed. You know this. LFT’s often give false negatives but very few false positives.
FYI two colleagues this week (healthcare) have tested positive despite having had both vaccines. Sort your shit out and stop excusing your actions. You impact on everyone and everything.🤯

clpsmum · 12/06/2021 14:38

You need to isolate. It's boring and horrible but you need to do it I'm afraid. Hope your friend makes a speedy recovery and that you don't get it. I'm just over it, it's dreadful

agonyauntie2020 · 12/06/2021 14:38

are you vaccinated?

Doyoumind · 12/06/2021 14:38

She should never have been at the party. Lfts are to try and identify non symptomatic cases, not to confirm covid. She should have had a proper test if she was unwell. It's this kind of stupidity that means this shit is never ending.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/06/2021 14:39

Test and trace not track

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/06/2021 14:40

@agonyauntie2020

are you vaccinated

Doesn’t matter-you can still catch it and spread it-see my post above

Mumski45 · 12/06/2021 14:40

To answer your question well of course you should be isolating. She will be obliged to give your name to Test and trace (I hope she does) as a close contact even if outside as you were within 1 metre. What ever the legality your employer would be daft to insist you go in and potentially spread it further.

IsabelHerna · 12/06/2021 14:40

I trully hope you've decided to isolate. Goverments cannot contact each one of us, and they shouldn't have to be honest. Personally I think that it's a personal rensposibility matter. So please stay inside and if and when they contact you, you can let them know you're isolating already.

ChequerBoard · 12/06/2021 14:42
@ChequerBoard excuse me? Wind your bloody neck in.
Nope as others have said - your actions affect everyone. Use some common sense!

dementedpixie · 12/06/2021 14:43

Legally she doesn't need to self isolate unless told to do so by T&T. Of course it is better that she does isolate to minimise spread.

To think I DON'T need to self isolate yet?
FusionChefGeoff · 12/06/2021 14:44

I've been saying this since April 2020! Why the fuck the Gov message wasn't 'if you know you've been in contact with someone who's experienced symptoms or has tested positive please isolate until you know the outcome of their test'

Quartz2208 · 12/06/2021 14:48

I think this is where it hasnt changed with LFTs so before if someone had symptoms you only isolated once the positive was back from the PCR test because there were no LFTs

Mrsjayy · 12/06/2021 14:48

Well track and trace isnt for private garden parties is it ? Take a test and.wait the results why wouldn't you ?

EastWestWhosBest · 12/06/2021 14:54

When you test positive you are asked for anyone you have been in close contact with. It doesn’t matter if it’s a private house, work place, pub or wherever.

YABU

dementedpixie · 12/06/2021 14:54

Why would OP test? It would be too soon for that

ElderMillennial · 12/06/2021 14:54

Agree you should isolate regardless of the official rules.

ddl1 · 12/06/2021 14:58

Well, I don't know whether or not you have to legally; but you should morally. Hope all goes well and you don't catch it.

ChequerBoard · 12/06/2021 14:59

"When you test positive you are asked for anyone you have been in close contact with. It doesn’t matter if it’s a private house, work place, pub or wherever."

Newsflash - people don't have total recall. What if they forget to name you as a contact or give your contact details incorrectly, or refuse to engage with the T&T service as we know many, many people are doing.

Not being called by T&T does not negate your obligation to isolate when you know you have been in contact with a positive case. If people can't use basic common sense we will never be out of this cycle of lockdowns!

Sally872 · 12/06/2021 15:00

I think most people will be super cautious if they know they have been in contact with someone who has recently tested positive.

I assume many employers would expect proof of need to isolate rather than employees word being good enough. Govt can't say if you hear of a positive case isolate iyswim.

I would isolate to protect my friends and family and local community in general. And I would tell my employer what has happened and in my line of work they would ask me to stay home (easy choice for them though as all staff have ability to work from home).
