Just that really.
We have DC aged 15,12,12,10,7
All have to be awake at 6.30 for the school day.
What is a reasonable time for them to go to bed?

I don’t think you can put a 15 year old to bed but we have a lights off rule.

At 15 11 seems reasonable, at 12 10 ish, 10 is 9.30 and 7 would have been 8.30

Cocopogo · 09/06/2021 18:59

Wow so late?

My 12 yo goes to bed at 8pm, my 16 yo at 9:30

SuperSleepyBaby · 09/06/2021 19:00

What time do they go to bed now and do they seem tired during the day?

BlatantlyNameChanged · 09/06/2021 19:00

Depends on the child and when they're tired. My 12yo goes up at 9pm and reads until he falls asleep somewhere between 9.30 and 1am but he autistic and doesn't seem to need much sleep so our agreement is that he stays in his room and reads so that he doesn't disturb everyone else. My 10yo goes to bed at 8.30pm and is asleep almost instantly, I know it's fairly early but it suits them to do this and is by choice, they've always liked their sleep and if they stay up any later then they're grumpy and overtired the following day. 7yo then goes at 8.30 with the 10yo.

GalOopNorth · 09/06/2021 19:00

My 11 yo 8.30-9
My 6 yo 7.30-8

KingscoteStaff · 09/06/2021 19:01

School nights?
7 in bed 7.30, read til 8
10 in bed 8.30, then read till 9
12s in bed 9, read til 9.30
15 in room 9.30, WiFi off at 10 or phone away

30degreesandmeltinghere · 09/06/2021 19:01

Mine are 17, 15,14, 12 and 6..
Whenever o'clock. 10 ish, 10 ish, 9 ish and 7. 30 ish..

Gatehouse77 · 09/06/2021 19:02

7 - bed at 7pm, lights out 7:30pm
10 - bed at 7:30pm, lights out 8pm
12 - bed at 8pm, lights out 8:30pm
15 - bed at 9pm, lights out 9:30pm

That said, we’ve always been quite strict about bedtimes but having adult time in the evening was important for us.

Imapotato · 09/06/2021 19:03

I’d try and let the 15 year old self regulate with in reason. Maybe a time they need to be upstairs and chilling, but I wouldn’t enforce lights out unless they priced themselves incapable of sleeping at a reasonable time.

The 12 year olds maybe 9-9.30

The 10 year old 8.30-9

The 7 year old around 8-8.30

You know your kids best though abs how much sleep they need, so you’re the best person to decide.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 09/06/2021 19:03

Teenagers need 8-10 hours sleep and younger children 10-12. Work back from that. There's no right bedtime, there's simply the need to get enough sleep.

I used to teach secondary and so many teens who go to bed at 11 or midnight long-term on school nights (not just at weekends or occasionally) are sleep deprived and their school work and motivation and concentration suffers.

Bumpsadaisie · 09/06/2021 19:05

Mine are 12 and almost 10. We aim for 9.30 and 9 respectively. I read to youngest and turn his light off but eldest does that herself when she's finished reading.

Morgan12 · 09/06/2021 19:06

My 8 year old is 9.30pm. It depends on the child really.

Enough4me · 09/06/2021 19:08

My 11 year old goes up at around 9pm and falls asleep quickly. My 15 year old goes up at around 10.30pm, but turns her own light out.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 09/06/2021 19:08

My 14 year old is in bed at 8.30 on 2 weekday nights and about 10 on 3 weekday nights due to activities. He does A LOT as he’s very sporty unlike me so he’s also in bed by 9.30 at the weekends.

The 11 year old is in bed by 8

The 8 year old by 7.30.

All up by 6.30 / 7am at the latest with lots of activities (their choice rather than mine). They need a lot of sleep I find.

MrsBongiovi · 09/06/2021 19:09

15....as long as they can get up for school, probably 11ish.

12.... my daughter is 12 and goes to bed around 10/11 on school nights.
When my kids were 10, they went to bed around 9.30pm.
7 years old...9pm.

paintedpanda · 09/06/2021 19:09

I don't stick hard and fast to this but find it helps as a rough guide. It doesn't have a time for the 15yo though

To ask what time I should put my kids to bed.
GameSetMatch · 09/06/2021 19:28

7 year old 8.15
12 year old 10
15 year old in own room at 11

wildeverose · 09/06/2021 19:33

Mine are 4 and 6 and both in bed by 7. Not that they fall asleep easily mind, but they get up at about 5 so they're always knackered

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/06/2021 19:55

DS is about to turn 8 and I'm about to push his bedtime back to 8pm from 7.30pm.

We need to leave the house at 7.15. I normally wake him up about 6.30 if he's not already awake, but he's usually up about 6.

PaperMonster · 09/06/2021 20:07

Mine’s ten - she reads from 9pm with lights out at 10pm. She gets up at 7.30am.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/06/2021 20:17

My 12 yo goes to bed voluntarily at around 9/930 (930 absolute latest) and had to help at 6.30.

Unfortunately my 7 yo really can’t settle until a similar time so I’ve given up trying to make him, so it’s around the same. He can sleep til nearly 8 if he needs to though, although 7.30 is better for a relaxed morning.

He’s just like that- I remember being put to bed early as a child and having to lie there awake for hours which was horrible.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/06/2021 20:18

Should read “has to get up at 630”

nicknamehelp · 09/06/2021 20:23

My teens settle from 10 not sure when they actually go to sleep but no noise etc from 10 so they soon do go off and both awake 7/7.30. Think from High School so long as waking at right time and not tired in the day they need to start to learn to take control of sleep

honeylulu · 09/06/2021 20:25

I thought I put my 7 year old to bed far too late (9pm) but according to that chart it's not too bad as she doesn't get up until 7.30.
