Please to help me keep my sanity and give me some light relief can you tell me the best examples of mansplaining you have experienced?

I have had a long day of this at work and it's just exhausting

I eork in HR. Man (who is a bigot more from stupidity and reading the Mail, rather than malice) frothing on about it being the law for every company to provide a prayer room for Muslims. World gone mad, etc.
Not the law, say I.
No, whatever made up crap he read 'somewhere' was right and I was wrong.

Upamountain43 · 16/06/2021 08:42

I had a man trying to tell me i should not base my views on watching a single TV documentary and directed me to read a book - that i had written!

The thing is, even if it was the law.... How does it affect him?? Confused

  • Ravenclawsome Another one I've just remembered.
    I grew up on the east coast of Scotland but have family in Newcastle. I was due to drive down to the Toon on my own for the first time since passing my test and was telling a colleague.
    He told me the best route would be to go via Glasgow and then down to Carlisle and then across to Newcastle. I pointed out my DGF did the route once a month to visit his elderly DM and if that was the bast rout from the EAST of Scotland rather than the A1 he would surely go that way, wouldn't he? When we do a similar journey the two routes can be pretty even time wise, although it is longer (miles) to go via Glasgow and Carlisle. However we live central Scotland as opposed to the East coast of Scotland.*

It's very much faster to take the A1 from where we are.

@Lockheart

Article fodder?
Fancy that!
LemonSherbetFancies · 17/06/2021 11:45

When I was about 27 I babysat for a family and the dad asked me to cook a chicken in the oven. It was one of those ones you just bake in the oven, no preparation. He said "You must remove the packaging before you place it in the oven ok?"
It's made me giggle remembering it.

Xdh lived with me for 2 yrs in small market Town where I grew up.
Xdh books car into garage I've been using for 20 years, on my recommendation.
Asks me to take car in and insists on telling me in great detail where the garage is, starting from the beginning when I interrupted to tell him to stfu I already know...

wonkylegs · 17/06/2021 13:53

@LemonSherbetFancies he may have been speaking from experience
My mum (who was a disaster in the kitchen) once cooked a pizza with the plastic still on and I have an ex who did the same. It seems unbelievably stupid but it happens.

I said on the front page it was article fodder.

@altamory

A man I was interviewing who I used to work with claimed credit for one of my projects.

Did you question the CF?

LemonSherbetFancies · 17/06/2021 17:15

@wonkylegs Maybe but it still makes me chuckle that he thought I would do that. But then I guess as you say, it does happen Grin

Ravenclawsome · 17/06/2021 18:09

Straight to the DM comments section and surprise surprise, it's full of butt-hurt men explaining that it's not mansplaining, women do it too and women in the west are the most privileged people around (because we only have to worry about being raped and murdered while walking alone rather than paying for dinner and buying engagement rings 🙄)

@Bouncebacker

My mum’s partner showed me how to put my own car seat in my own car - second child, I’d had the seat for 7 years. I nearly punched him
Did you not stop him and say that you were fully aware how to do it?! If you don't they'll just continue, surely?!
2020nymph · 17/06/2021 18:24

@MrsBunHat

Re the heavy lifting, I don’t mind a man offering to help and make use of his extra strength if it really does help me, I appreciate that. But I’m tall and strong, so what’s sometimes happened is that a smaller man tries to take my heavy bags, IKEA flat pack or whatever off me and then can’t carry it, so has to give it back!

I kind of feel a bit sorry for men in that situation because there is social pressure on them to step in, and to be strong as well. They look bad not helping a woman too.

I use to do trade shows, the number of guys who offered to move boxes and struggled with the weight or offer to construct the stand and realise they couldn't was amusing.

2020nymph · 17/06/2021 19:25

It's working the amount of healthcare mistakes because women Re not being listened to.

I went to my GP because I was in a lot of pain, my pain threshold is pretty high due to health issues and I was vomiting in pain. He said ruptured ovarian cyst and sent me straight to hospital. The doctor there was extremely patronising, said it was period cramps, and I wouldn't be able to stand if it was a ruptured ovarian cyst. I was told I was not a priority. Turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst the size of a golf ball.

I've had quite a few since. I have to go to hospital to get it on record so I can get treatment.

I also get that ovarian cysts can't cause X, Y Z symptoms. So why do so many of us that have them get those symptoms then?

I’m a bad feminist because I was always quite happy to let them. Mind you now I’m
Old nobody offers.

Check out katherineenye on TikTok. A man just explained her that 'Olympic weightlifting is a sport in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates'.

She is in the US Olympic weightlifting team for Tokyo, squatting 330lb in the video in question. You can't make this shit up.
